Elastic Scattering and Transport Coefficients for a Quark Plasma in SUf(3)SU_f(3) at Finite Temperatures

The temperature dependence of the elastic scattering processes qq′→qq′qq'\to qq' and qqˉ′→qqˉ′q\bar q'\to q\bar q', with q,q′=u,d,sq, q' = u, d, s is studied as a function of the scattering angle and the center of mass energy of the collision within the framework of the SUf(3)SU_f(3) Nambu--Jona--Lasinio model. Critical scattering at threshold is observed in the qqˉ′→qqˉ′q\bar q'\to q\bar q' process, leading to an enhancement of the cross section as occurs in the phenomenon of critical opalescence. Transport properties such as viscosity, mean free paths and thermal relaxation times are calculated. Strangeness enhancement is investigated via the chemical relaxation times, which are found to be considerably higher than those calculated via perturbative QCD. A comparison with the experimental values for the strangeness enhancement in S+SS+S collisions leads to an upper limit of 4~fm/cc for the lifetime of the plasma.

Electroproduction of vector mesons off nuclei at ELFE: exact solution for color transparency

A multichannel evolution equation is developed for the density matrix describing a hadronic wave packet produced by a virtual photon and propagation through a nuclear matter. This approach is dual to the quark-gluon representation, incorporates the effects of coherence and formation times and gives an exact solution for color transparency problem at any photon energy. We propose a procedure of data analysis, which provides an unambiguous way of detection of a color transparency signal even at medium energies.

Empirical regularities in the xx--dependence of nuclear J/Psi suppression

The measured ratios R(x,A1/A2)R(x,A_1/A_2) for J/ΨJ/Ψ, Ψ′Ψ' and μ+μ−μ^+μ^- production on two different targets A1,A2A_1, A_2 as a function of the fractional momentum xx of the final state are well fit with a very simple functional form having three adjustable parameters. An empirical relation is found between the three parameters of the fit. The deduced J/ΨJ/Ψ absorption cross sections σabsσ_{abs} cluster around two values of which only σabs=5.8±0.2σ_{abs} = 5.8 \pm 0.2 mb seems acceptable.

Hadronization cross--sections at the chiral phase transition of a quark plasma

Hadronization at finite temperature TT is discussed in the framework of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The differential cross-section for the conversion of a quark--antiquark pair into two pions to first order in a 1/Nc1/N_c expansion is calculated as a function of the c.m.~energy ss and temperature TT. In particular, approaching the temperature TcT_c of the chiral phase transition, the hadronization cross-section diverges like ln⁡∣1−TTc∣\ln |1-{T\over T_c}|.
