Measurement of muon neutrino induced charged current interactions without charged pions in the final state using a new T2K off-axis near detector WAGASCI-BabyMIND

We report a flux-integrated cross section measurement of muon neutrino interactions on water and hydrocarbon via charged current reactions without charged pions in the final state with the WAGASCI-BabyMIND detector which was installed in the T2K near detector hall in 2018. The detector is located 1.5$^\circ$ off-axis and is exposed to a more energetic neutrino flux than ND280, another T2K near detector, which is located at a different off-axis position. The total flux-integrated cross section is measured to be $1.26 \pm 0.18\,(stat.+syst.) \times 10^{-39} $ $\mathrm{cm^{2}/nucleon}$ on CH and $1.44 \pm 0.21\,(stat.+syst.) \times 10^{-39} $ $\mathrm{cm^{2}/nucleon}$ on H$_{2}$O. These results are compared to model predictions provided by the NEUT v5.3.2 and GENIE v2.8.0 MC generators and the measurements are compatible with these models. Differential cross sections in muon momentum and cosine of the muon scattering angle are also reported. This is the first such measurement reported with the WAGASCI-BabyMIND detector and utilizes the 2020 and 2021 datasets.

Results from the T2K experiment on neutrino mixing including a new far detector $μ$-like sample

We have made improved measurements of three-flavor neutrino mixing with 19.7(16.3)$\times 10^{20}$ protons on target in (anti-)neutrino-enhanced beam modes. A new sample of muon-neutrino events with tagged pions has been added at the far detector, as well as new proton and photon-tagged samples at the near detector. Significant improvements have been made to the flux and neutrino interaction modeling. T2K data continue to prefer the normal mass ordering and upper octant of $\sin^2θ_{23}$ with a near-maximal value of the charge-parity violating phase with best-fit values in the normal ordering of $δ_{\scriptscriptstyle\mathrm{CP}}=-2.18\substack{+1.22 \\ -0.47}$, $\sin^2θ_{23}=0.559\substack{+0.018 \\ -0.078}$ and $Δm^2_{32}=(+2.506\substack{+0.039 \\ -0.052})\times 10^{-3}$ eV$^{2}$.

Large amplitude periodic outbursts and long period variables in the VVV VIRAC2-$β$ database

The VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) survey obtained near-infrared photometry toward the Galactic bulge and the southern disc plane for a decade (2010 - 2019). We designed a modified Lomb-Scargle method to search for large-amplitude ($Δ$Ks > 1.5 mag) mid to long-term periodic variables (P > 10 d) in the 2nd version of VVV Infrared Astrometric Catalogue (VIRAC2-$β$). In total, 1520 periodic sources were discovered, including 59 candidate periodic outbursting young stellar objects (YSOs), based on the unique morphology of the phase-folded light curves, proximity to Galactic HII regions and mid-infrared colours. Five sources are spectroscopically confirmed as accreting YSOs. Both fast-rise/slow-decay and slow-rise/fast-decay periodic outbursts were found, but fast-rise/slow-decay outbursts predominate at the highest amplitudes. The multi-wavelength colour variations are consistent with a variable mass accretion process, as opposed to variable extinction. The cycles are likely to be caused by dynamical perturbations from stellar or planetary companions within the circumstellar disc. An additional search for periodic variability amongst YSO candidates in published Spitzer-based catalogues yielded a further 71 candidate periodic accretors, mostly with lower amplitudes. These resemble cases of pulsed accretion but with unusually long periods and greater regularity. The majority of other long-period variables are pulsating dusty Miras with smooth and symmetric light curves. We find that some Miras have redder $W3 - W4$ colours than previously thought, most likely due to their surface chemical compositions.

A constructive approach to one-dimensional Gorenstein $k$-algebras

Let $R$ be the power series ring or the polynomial ring over a field $k$ and let $I $ be an ideal of $R.$ Macaulay proved that the Artinian Gorenstein $k$-algebras $R/I$ are in one-to-one correspondence with the cyclic $R$-submodules of the divided power series ring $Γ. $ The result is effective in the sense that any polynomial of degree $s$ produces an Artinian Gorenstein $k$-algebra of socle degree $s.$ In a recent paper, the authors extended Macaulay's correspondence characterizing the $R$-submodules of $Γ$ in one-to-one correspondence with Gorenstein d-dimensional $k$-algebras. However, these submodules in positive dimension are not finitely generated. Our goal is to give constructive and finite procedures for the construction of Gorenstein $k$-algebras of dimension one and any codimension. This has been achieved through a deep analysis of the $G$-admissible submodules of $Γ. $ Applications to the Gorenstein linkage of zero-dimensional schemes and to Gorenstein affine semigroup rings are discussed.

KOSMOS and COSMOS: New facility instruments for the NOAO 4-meter telescopes

We describe the design, construction and measured performance of the Kitt Peak Ohio State Multi-Object Spectrograph (KOSMOS) for the 4-m Mayall telescope and the Cerro Tololo Ohio State Multi-Object Spectrograph (COSMOS) for the 4-m Blanco telescope. These nearly identical imaging spectrographs are modified versions of the OSMOS instrument; they provide a pair of new, high-efficiency instruments to the NOAO user community. KOSMOS and COSMOS may be used for imaging, long-slit, and multi-slit spectroscopy over a 100 square arcminute field of view with a pixel scale of 0.29 arcseconds. Each contains two VPH grisms that provide R~2500 with a one arcsecond slit and their wavelengths of peak diffraction efficiency are approximately 510nm and 750nm. Both may also be used with either a thin, blue-optimized CCD from e2v or a thick, fully depleted, red-optimized CCD from LBNL. These instruments were developed in response to the ReSTAR process. KOSMOS was commissioned in 2013B and COSMOS was commissioned in 2014A.

On the canonical ideals of one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings

In this paper we consider the problem of finding explicitly canonical ideals of one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings. We show that Gorenstein ideals contained in a high power of the maximal ideal are canonical ideals. In the codimension two case, from a Hilbert-Burch resolution, we show how to construct canonical ideals of curve singularities. Finally, we translate the problem of the analytic classification of curve singularities to the classification of local Artin Gorenstein rings with suitable length.

Analytic Isomorphisms of compressed local algebras

In this paper we consider Artin local K-algebras with maximal length in the class of Artin algebras with given embedding dimension and socle type. They have been widely studied by several authors, among others by Iarrobino, Fröberg and Laksov. If the local K-algebra is Gorenstein of socle degree 3, then the authors proved that it is canonically graded, i.e. analytically isomorphic to its associated graded ring. This unexpected result has been extended to compressed level K-algebras of socle degree 3 by A. De Stefani. In this paper we end the investigation proving that extremal Artin Gorenstein local K-algebras of socle degree s \le 4 are canonically graded, but the result does not extend to extremal Artin Gorenstein local rings of socle degree 5 or to compressed level local rings of socle degree 4 and type >1. As a consequence we present results on Artin compressed local K-algebras having a specified socle type.

On the Hilbert function of one-dimensional local complete intersections

The Hilbert function of standard graded algebras are well understood by Macaulay's theorem and very little is known in the local case, even if we assume that the local ring is a complete intersection. An extension to the power series ring $R$ of the theory of Gröbner bases (w.r.t. local degree orderings) enable us to characterize the Hilbert function of one dimensional quadratic complete intersections $A=R/I$, and we give a structure theorem of the minimal system of generators of $I$ in terms of the Hilbert function. We find several restrictions for the Hilbert function of $A$ in the case that $I$ is a complete intersection of type $(2,b). $ Conditions for the Cohen-Macaulyness of the associated graded ring of $A$ are given.
