A Generalized Grover/Zeta Correspondence

We introduce a generalized Grover matrix of a graph and present an explicit formula for its characteristic polynomial. As a corollary, we give the spectra for the generalized Grover matrix of a regular graph. Next, we define a zeta function and a generalized zeta function of a graph $G$ with respect to its generalized Grover matrix as an analog of the Ihara zeta function and present explicit formulas for their zeta functions for a vertex-transitive graph. As applications, we express the limit on the generalized zeta functions of a family of finite vertex-transitive regular graphs by an integral. Furthermore, we give the limit on the generalized zeta functions of a family of finite tori as an integral expression.

IPS/Zeta Correspondence

Our previous works presented zeta functions by the Konno-Sato theorem or the Fourier analysis for one-particle models including random walks, correlated random walks, quantum walks, and open quantum random walks. This paper introduces a new zeta function for multi-particle models with probabilistic or quantum interactions, called the interacting particle system (IPS). We compute the zeta function for some tensor-type IPSs.

Mahler/Zeta Correspondence

The Mahler measure was introduced by Mahler in the study of number theory. It is known that the Mahler measure appears in different areas of mathematics and physics. On the other hand, we have been investigated a new class of zeta functions for various kinds of walks including quantum walks by a series of our previous work on "Zeta Correspondence". The quantum walk is a quantum counterpart of the random walk. In this paper, we present a new relation between the Mahler measure and our zeta function for quantum walks. Firstly we consider this relation in the case of one-dimensional quantum walks. Afterwards we deal with higher-dimensional quantum walks. For comparison with the case of the quantum walk, we also treat the case of higher-dimensional random walks. Our results bridge between the Mahler measure and the zeta function via quantum walks for the first time.

The discrete-time quaternionic quantum walk and the second weighted zeta function on a graph

We define the quaternionic quantum walk on a finite graph and investigate its properties. This walk can be considered as a natural quaternionic extension of the Grover walk on a graph. We explain the way to obtain all the right eigenvalues of a quaternionic matrix and a notable property derived from the unitarity condition for the quaternionic quantum walk. Our main results determine all the right eigenvalues of the quaternionic quantum walk by using complex eigenvalues of the quaternionic weighted matrix which is easily derivable from the walk. Since our derivation is owing to a quaternionic generalization of the determinant expression of the second weighted zeta function, we explain the second weighted zeta function and the relationship between the walk and the second weighted zeta function.

The quaternionic second weighted zeta function of a graph and the Study determinant

We establish a generalization of the second weighted zeta function of a graph to the case of quaternions. For an arc-weighted graph whose weights are quaternions, we define the second weighted zeta function by using the Study determinant that is a quaternionic determinant for quaternionic matrices defined by Study. This definition is regarded as a quaternionic analogue of the determinant expression of Hashimoto type for the Ihara zeta function of a graph. We derive the Study determinant expression of Bass type and the Euler product for the quaternionic second weighted zeta function.

The discrete-time quaternionic quantum walk on a graph

Recently, the quaternionic quantum walk was formulated by the first author as a generalization of discrete-time quantum walks. We treat the right eigenvalue problem of quaternionic matrices to analysis the spectra of its transition matrix. The way to obtain all the right eigenvalues of a quaternionic matrix is given. From the unitary condition on the transition matrix of the quaternionic quantum walk, we deduce some properties about it. Our main results, Theorem 5.3, determine all the right eigenvalues of a quaternionic quantum walk by use of those of the corresponding weighted matrix. In addition, we give some examples of quaternionic quantum walks and their right eigenvalues.

The quaternionic weighted zeta function of a graph

We establish the quaternionic weighted zeta function of a graph and its Study determinant expressions. For a graph with quaternionic weights on arcs, we define a zeta function by using an infinite product which is regarded as the Euler product. This is a quaternionic extension of the square of the Ihara zeta function. We show that the new zeta function can be expressed as the exponential of a generating function and that it has two Study determinant expressions, which are crucial for the theory of zeta functions of graphs.

Spectral and asymptotic properties of Grover walks on crystal lattice

We propose a twisted Szegedy walk for estimating the limit behavior of a discrete-time quantum walk on a crystal lattice, an infinite abelian covering graph, whose notion was introduced by [14]. First, we show that the spectrum of the twisted Szegedy walk on the quotient graph can be expressed by mapping the spectrum of a twisted random walk onto the unit circle. Secondly, we show that the spatial Fourier transform of the twisted Szegedy walk on a finite graph with appropriate parameters becomes the Grover walk on its infinite abelian covering graph. Finally, as an application, we show that if the Betti number of the quotient graph is strictly greater than one, then localization is ensured with some appropriated initial state. We also compute the limit density function for the Grover walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with flip flop shift, which implies the coexistence of linear spreading and localization. We partially obtain the abstractive shape of the limit density function: the support is within the $d$-dimensional sphere of radius $1/\sqrt{d}$, and $2^d$ singular points reside on the sphere's surface.

A note on the discrete-time evolutions of quantum walk on a graph

For a quantum walk on a graph, there exist many kinds of operators for the discrete-time evolution. We give a general relation between the characteristic polynomial of the evolution matrix of a quantum walk on edges and that of a kind of transition matrix of a classical random walk on vertices. Furthermore we determine the structure of the positive support of the cube of some evolution matrix, which is said to be useful for isospectral problem in graphs, under a certain condition.

Quantum graph walks I: mapping to quantum walks

We clarify that coined quantum walk is determined by only the choice of local quantum coins. To do so, we characterize coined quantum walks on graph by disjoint Euler circles with respect to symmetric arcs. In this paper, we introduce a new class of coined quantum walk by a special choice of quantum coins determined by corresponding quantum graph, called quantum graph walk. We show that a stationary state of quantum graph walk describes the eigenfunction of the quantum graph.

Quantum graph walks II: Quantum walks on graph coverings

We give a new determinant expression for the characteristic polynomial of the bond scattering matrix of a quantum graph G. Also, we give a decomposition formula for the characteristic polynomial of the bond scattering matrix of a regular covering of G. Furthermore, we define an L-function of G, and give a determinant expression of it. As a corollary, we express the characteristic polynomial of the bond scattering matrix of a regular covering of G by means of its L-functions. As an application, we introduce three types of quantum graph walks, and treat their relation.
