Some Remarks on the Location of Non-Asymptotic Zeros of Whittaker and Kummer Hypergeometric Functions

This paper focuses on the location of the non-asymptotic zeros of Whittaker and Kummer confluent hypergeometric functions. Based on a technique by E. Hille for the analysis of solutions of some second-order ordinary differential equations, we characterize the sign of the real part of zeros of Whittaker and Kummer functions and provide estimates on the regions of the complex plane where those zeros can be located. Our main result is a correction of a previous statement by G. E. Tsvetkov whose propagation has induced mistakes in the literature. In particular, we review some results of E. B. Saff and R. S. Varga on the error of Pad{é}'s rational approximation of the exponential function, which are based on the latter.

The generic multiplicity-induced-dominancy property from retarded to neutral delay-differential equations: When delay-systems characteristics meet the zeros of Kummer functions

In this paper, which is a direct continuation and generalization of the recent works by the authors [https://doi.org/10.1051/cocv/2019073, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jde.2021.03.003], we show the validity of the generic multiplicity-induced-dominancy property for a general class of linear functional differential equations with a single delay, including the retarded as well as the neutral cases. The result is based on an appropriate integral representation of the corresponding characteristic quasipolynomial functions involving some appropriate degenerate hypergeometric functions.

On qualitative properties of single-delay linear retarded differential equations: Characteristic roots of maximal multiplicity are necessarily dominant

This paper presents necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a real root of maximal multiplicity in the spectrum of a linear time-invariant single-delay equation of retarded type. We also prove that this root is always strictly dominant, and hence determines the asymptotic behavior of the system. These results are based on improved a priori bounds on the imaginary part of roots on the complex right half-plane.

Spectral dominance of complex roots for single-delay linear equations

This paper provides necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a pair of complex conjugate roots, each of multiplicity two, in the spectrum of a linear time-invariant single-delay equation of retarded type. This pair of roots is also shown to be always strictly dominant, determining thus the asymptotic behavior of the system. The proof of this result is based on the corresponding result for real roots of multiplicity four, continuous dependence of roots with respect to parameters, and the study of crossing imaginary roots. We also present how this design can be applied to vibration suppression and flexible mode compensation.

Complexity reduction of C-algorithm

The C-Algorithm introduced in [Chouikha2007] is designed to determine isochronous centers for Lienard-type differential systems, in the general real analytic case. However, it has a large complexity that prevents computations, even in the quartic polynomial case. The main result of this paper is an efficient algorithmic implementation of C-Algorithm, called ReCA (Reduced C-Algorithm). Moreover, an adapted version of it is proposed in the rational case. It is called RCA (Rational C-Algorithm) and is widely used in [BardetBoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010] and [BoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010] to find many new examples of isochronous centers for the Liénard type equation.

Isochronicity conditions for some planar polynomial systems II

We study the isochronicity of centers at $O\in \mathbb{R}^2$ for systems $$\dot x=-y+A(x,y),\;\dot y=x+B(x,y),$$ where $A,\;B\in \mathbb{R}[x,y]$, which can be reduced to the Liénard type equation. When $deg(A)\leq 4$ and $deg(B) \leq 4$, using the so-called C-algorithm we found $36$ new families of isochronous centers. When the Urabe function $h=0$ we provide an explicit general formula for linearization. This paper is a direct continuation of \cite{BoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010} but can be read independantly.
