We consider the problem of coherence loss in a stroboscopic high resolution radar ranging due to phase instability of the probing and reference radio signals. Requirements to the coherence of reference generators in stroboscopic signal processing system are formulated. The results of statistical modeling are presented.
We describe the concept of a shallow-water setup for simulation of gas accretion onto a black hole in the mode of a quasi-spherical accretion. The bottom for the shallow-water container must have the funnel-shaped curvilinear concavo-convex shape. We calculate the configuration surface of the properly shaped bottom that simulates precisely the Newtonian or pseudo-Newtonian gravitational potentials. Like the spatial part of the Schwarzchild metric, the funnel's surface metric has a (removable) singularity at the finite distance from the funnel's center and places the certain funnel's depth which we call `gravitational length'. The gravitational length is analogous to the gravitational radius and defines the equivalent of the black hole's mass in the laboratory model. The mass equivalent corresponds to $\sim 0.367\cdot 10^{12}$ g for the funnel as deep as 5 cm. We define more precisely the inviscid shallow water equations for the arbitrary bottom curvature. We show that in general case the shallow water pressure obeys the non-barotropic equation of state. We suggest the schematic course for experiments for simulation of accretion in a thick accretion disk mode as well as the Bondi-Hoyle accretion.
We discuss an idea whether spherical blast waves can amplify by a non-local resonant hydrodynamic mechanism inhomogeneities formed by turbulence or phase segregation in the interstellar medium. We consider the problem of a blast-wave-turbulence interaction in the Linear Interaction Approximation. Mathematically, this is an eigenvalue problem for finding the structure and amplitude of eigenfunctions describing the response of the shock-wave flow to forced oscillations by external perturbations in the ambient interstellar medium. Linear analysis shows that the blast wave can amplify density and vorticity perturbations for a wide range of length scales with amplification coefficients of up to 20, with amplification the greater, the larger the length. There also exist resonant harmonics for which the gain becomes formally infinite in the linear approximation. Their orbital wavenumbers are within the range of macro- ($l \sim 1$), meso- ($l \sim 20$) and microscopic ($l > 200$) scales. Since the resonance width is narrow: typically, $Δl <1$, resonance should select and amplify discrete isolated harmonics. We speculate as to a possible explanation of an observed regular filamentary structure of regular-shaped round supernova remnants such as SNR 1572, 1006 or 0509-67.5. Resonant mesoscales found ($l \approx 18 $) are surprisingly close to the observed scales ($l \approx 15$) of ripples in the shell's surface of SNR 0509-67.5.
The evolution of a supernova remnant in a cloudy medium as a function of the volume filling factor of the clouds is studied in a three-dimensional axially symmetrical model. The model includes the mixing of heavy elements (metals) ejected by the supernova and their contribution to radiative losses. The interaction of the supernova envelope with the cloudy phase of the interstellar medium leads to nonsimultaneous, and on average earlier, onsets of the radiative phase in different parts of the supernova envelope. Growth in the volume filling factor $f$ leads to a decrease in the time for the transition of the envelope to the radiative phase and a decrease in the envelope's mean radius, due to the increased energy losses by the envelope in the cloudy medium. When the development of hydrodynamical instabilities in the supernova envelope is efficient, the thermal energy falls as $E_t\sim t^{-2.3}$, for the propagation of the supernova remnant through either a homogeneous or a cloudy medium. When the volume filling factor is $f\simgt 0.1$, a layer with excess kinetic energy andmomentumforms far behind the global shock front from the supernova, which traps the hot gas of the cavity in the central part of the supernova remnant. Metals ejected by the supernova are also enclosed in the central region of the remnant, where the initial (high) metallicity is essentially preserved. Thus, the interaction of the supernova envelope with the cloudy interstellar medium appreciably changes the dynamics and structure of the distribution of the gas in the remnant. This affects the observational characteristics of the remnant, in particularly, leading to substantial fluctuations of the emission measure of the gas with $T>10^5$~K and the velocity dispersion of the ionized gas.
Radiolocation methods of probing minor celestial bodies (asteroids) by the nanosecond pulses can be used for monitoring of near-Earth space with the purpose of identification of hazardous cosmic objects able to impact the Earth. Development of the methods that allow to improve accuracy of determining the asteroids size (i.e. whether it measures tens or hundreds meters in diameter) is important for correctly estimating the degree of damage which they can cause (either regional or global catastrophes, respectively). In this paper we suggest a novel method of estimating the sizes of the passive cosmic objects using the radiolocation probing by ultra-high-resolution nanosecond signals to obtain radar signatures. The modulation envelope of the reflected signal, which is a radar portrait of the cosmic object, is subjected to time scale transformation to carrier Doppler frequency by means of radioimpulse strobing. The shift of a strobe within the probing period will be performed by radial motion of the object which will allow to forgo the special autoshift circuit used in the oscillographic technical equipment. The measured values of duration of radiolocation portrait can be used to estimate the mean radius of the object by using the average spatial length of the portrait. The method makes it possible to appraise the sizes of cosmic objects through their radiolocation portrait duration, with accuracy that is independent of the objects range.
A new method for the line-of-sight velocity estimation of a high-speed near-Earth object (asteroid, meteorite) is suggested. The method is based on use of fractional, one-half order derivative of a Doppler signal. The algorithm suggested is much simpler and more economical than the classical one, and it appears preferable for use in orbital weapon systems of threat response. Application of fractional differentiation to quick evaluation of mean frequency location of the reflected Doppler signal is justified. The method allows an assessment of the mean frequency in the time domain without spectral analysis. An algorithm structure for the real-time estimation is presented. The velocity resolution estimates are made for typical asteroids in the X-band. It is shown that the wait time can be shortened by orders of magnitude compared with similar value in the case of a standard spectral processing.
