Energy Compression and Stabilization of Laser-Plasma Accelerators

Laser-plasma accelerators outperform current radiofrequency technology in acceleration strength by orders of magnitude. Yet, enabling them to deliver competitive beam quality for demanding applications, particularly in terms of energy spread and stability, remains a major challenge. In this Letter, we propose to combine bunch decompression and active plasma dechirping for drastically improving the energy profile and stability of beams from laser-plasma accelerators. Realistic start-to-end simulations demonstrate the potential of these post-acceleration phase-space manipulations for simultaneously reducing an initial energy spread and energy jitter of $\sim1$-$2\%$ to ${\lesssim} 0.1 \%$, closing the beam-quality gap to conventional acceleration schemes.

Future Circular Lepton Collider FCC-ee: Overview and Status

The worldwide High Energy Physics community widely agrees that the next collider should be a Higgs factory. Acknowledging this priority, in 2021 CERN has launched the international Future Circular Collider (FCC) Feasibility Study (FS). The FCC Integrated Project foresees, in a first stage, a high-luminosity high-energy electron-positron collider, serving as Higgs, top and electroweak factory, and, in a second stage, an energy frontier hadron collider, with a centre-of-mass energy of at least 100 TeV. In this paper, we address a few key elements of the FCC-ee accelerator design, its performance reach, and underlying technologies, as requested by the Snowmass process. The Conceptual Design Report for the FCC, published in 2019, serves as our primary reference. We also summarize a few recent changes and improvements.

Laser Wire Scanner Compton Scattering Techniques for the Measurement of the Transverse Beam Size of Particle Beams at Future Linear Colliders

This archive summarizes a working paper and conference proceedings related to laser wire scanner development for the Future Linear Collider (FLC) in the years 2001 to 2006. In particular the design, setup and data taking for the laser wire experiments at PETRA II and CT2 are described. The material is focused on the activities undertaken by Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL).

Potential of a longitudinally focusing insertion for a storage ring X-ray FEL

In present work we investigate the potential of a longitudinally focusing device to compress bunches passing an undulator for a synchrotron storage ring. If integrated into a storage ring similar to PETRAIII such device could potentially produce continuous $\sim$1ps pulses of photons in the $nm$ range with peak pulse powers of tens of GW. Even without operating in FEL saturation mode the longitudinal focusing can provide means to increase the brightness and shorten the photon pulse length.
