Cosmological Scattering Equations at Tree-level and One-loop

We recently proposed a formula for tree-level $n$-point correlators of massive $ϕ^4$ theory in de Sitter momentum space which consists of an integral over $n$ punctures on the Riemann sphere and differential operators in the future boundary dubbed the cosmological scattering equations. This formula was explicitly checked up to six points via a map to Witten diagrams using the global residue theorem. In this work we provide further details of these calculations and present an alternative formulation based on a double cover of the Riemann sphere. This framework can be used to derive simple graphical rules for evaluating the integrals more efficiently. Using these rules, we check the validity of our formula up to eight points and sketch the derivation of $n$-point correlators. Finally, we propose a similar formula for 1-loop $n$-point correlators in terms of an integral over $(n+2)$ punctures on the Riemann sphere, which we verify at four points. The 1-loop formula holds for small masses in de Sitter space and arbitrary masses satisfying the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound after Wick-rotating to Anti-de Sitter space.

Effective Field Theories and Cosmological Scattering Equations

We propose worldsheet formulae for wavefunction coefficients of the massive non-linear sigma model (NLSM), scalar Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI), and special Galileon (sGal) theories in de Sitter momentum space in terms of the recently proposed cosmological scattering equations constructed from conformal generators in the future boundary. The four-point integrands are assembled from simple building blocks and we identify a double copy prescription mapping the NLSM wavefunction coefficient to the DBI and sGal wavefunction coefficients, including mass deformations and curvature corrections. Finally, we compute the soft limits of these wavefunction coefficients and find that they can be written in terms of boundary conformal generators acting on contact diagrams.

The $L_{\infty}$ structure of gauge theories with matter

In this work we present an algebraic approach to the dynamics and perturbation theory at tree-level for gauge theories coupled to matter. The field theories we will consider are: Chern-Simons-Matter, Quantum Chromodynamics, and scalar Quantum Chromodynamics. Starting with the construction of the master action in the classical Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, we will extract the $L_{\infty}$-algebra that allow us to recursively calculate the perturbiner expansion from its minimal model. The Maurer-Cartan action obtained in this procedure will then motivate a generating function for all the tree-level scattering amplitudes. There are two interesting outcomes of this construction: a generator for fully-flavoured amplitudes via a localisation on Dyck words; and closed expressions for fermion and scalar lines attached to $n$-gluons with arbitrary polarisations.

One-Loop Yang-Mills Integrands from Scattering Equations

We investigate in the context of the scattering equations, how one-loop linear propagator integrands in gauge theories can be linked to integrands with quadratic propagators using a double forward limit. We illustrate our procedure through examples and demonstrate how the different parts of the derived quadratic integrand are consistent with cut-integrands derived from four-dimensional generalized unitarity. We also comment on applications and discuss possible further generalizations.

$Λ$ Scattering Equations

The CHY representation of scattering amplitudes is based on integrals over the moduli space of a punctured sphere. We replace the punctured sphere by a double-cover version. The resulting scattering equations depend on a parameter $Λ$ controlling the opening of a branch cut. The new representation of scattering amplitudes possesses an enhanced redundancy which can be used to fix, modulo branches, the location of four punctures while promoting $Λ$ to a variable. Via residue theorems we show how CHY formulas break up into sums of products of smaller (off-shell) ones times a propagator. This leads to a powerful way of evaluating CHY integrals of generic rational functions, which we call the $Λ$ algorithm.

CHY-Graphs on a Torus

Recently, we proposed a new approach using a punctured Elliptic curve in the CHY framework in order to compute one-loop scattering amplitudes. In this note, we further develop this approach by introducing a set of connectors, which become the main ingredient to build integrands on $\mathfrak{M}_{1,n}$, the moduli space of n-punctured Elliptic curves. As a particular application, we study the $Φ^3$ bi-adjoint scalar theory. We propose a set of rules to construct integrands on $\mathfrak{M}_{1,n}$ from $Φ^ 3$ integrands on $\mathfrak{M}_{0,n}$, the moduli space of n-punctured spheres. We illustrate these rules by computing a variety of $Φ^3$ one-loop Feynman diagrams. Conversely, we also provide another set of rules to compute the corresponding CHY-integrand on $\mathfrak{M}_{1,n}$ by starting instead from a given $Φ^ 3$ one-loop Feynman diagram. In addition, our results can easily be extended to higher loops.

Cross-ratio Identities and Higher-order Poles of CHY-integrand

The evaluation of generic Cachazo-He-Yuan(CHY)-integrands is a big challenge and efficient computational methods are in demand for practical evaluation. In this paper, we propose a systematic decomposition algorithm by using cross-ratio identities, which provides an analytic and easy to implement method for the evaluation of any CHY-integrand. This algorithm aims to decompose a given CHY-integrand containing higher-order poles as a linear combination of CHY-integrands with only simple poles in a finite number of steps, which ultimately can be trivially evaluated by integration rules of simple poles. To make the method even more efficient for CHY-integrands with large number of particles and complicated higher-order pole structures, we combine the $Λ$-algorithm and the cross-ratio identities, and as a by-product it provides us a way to deal with CHY-integrands where the $Λ$-algorithm was not applicable in its original formulation.

Elliptic scattering equations

Recently the CHY approach has been extended to one loop level using elliptic functions and modular forms over a Jacobian variety. Due to the difficulty in manipulating these kind of functions, we propose an alternative prescription that is totally algebraic. This new proposal is based on an elliptic algebraic curve embedded in a $\mathbb{C}P^2$ space. We show that for the simplest integrand, namely the ${\rm n-gon}$, our proposal indeed reproduces the expected result. By using the recently formulated $Λ-$algorithm, we found a novel recurrence relation expansion in terms of tree level off-shell amplitudes. Our results connect nicely with recent results on the one-loop formulation of the scattering equations. In addition, this new proposal can be easily stretched out to hyperelliptic curves in order to compute higher genus.

Computation of Contour Integrals on ${\cal M}_{0,n}$

Contour integrals of rational functions over ${\cal M}_{0,n}$, the moduli space of $n$-punctured spheres, have recently appeared at the core of the tree-level S-matrix of massless particles in arbitrary dimensions. The contour is determined by the critical points of a certain Morse function on ${\cal M}_{0,n}$. The integrand is a general rational function of the puncture locations with poles of arbitrary order as two punctures coincide. In this note we provide an algorithm for the analytic computation of any such integral. The algorithm uses three ingredients: an operation we call general KLT, Petersen's theorem applied to the existence of a 2-factor in any 4-regular graph and Hamiltonian decompositions of certain 4-regular graphs. The procedure is iterative and reduces the computation of a general integral to that of simple building blocks. These are integrals which compute double-color-ordered partial amplitudes in a bi-adjoint cubic scalar theory.

The two-loop superstring five-point amplitude and S-duality

The low-energy limit of the massless two-loop five-point amplitudes for both type IIA and type IIB superstrings is computed with the pure spinor formalism and its overall coefficient determined from first principles. For the type IIB theory, the five-graviton amplitude is found to be proportional to its tree-level counterpart at the corresponding order in $α'$. Their ratio ties in with expectations based on S-duality since it matches the same modular function $E_{5/2}$ which relates the two-loop and tree-level four-graviton amplitudes. For R-symmetry violating states, the ratio between tree-level and two-loop amplitudes at the same $α'$-order carries an additional factor of $-3/5$. Its S-duality origin can be traced back to a modular form derived from $E_{5/2}$.

N-Point Tree-Level Scattering Amplitude in the New Berkovits' String

We give a proof by direct computation that at tree level, the twistor-like superstring theory in the pure spinor formalism proposed very recently by Berkovits describes ten-dimensional N=1 super Yang-Mills in its heterotic version, and type II supergravity in its type II version. The Yang-Mills case agrees with the result obtained by Mafra, Schlotterer, Stieberger and Tsimpis. When restricting to gluon and graviton scattering, this new theory gives rise to Cachazo-He-Yuan formula.

A New Proposal for the Picture Changing Operators in the Minimal Pure Spinor Formalism

Using a new proposal for the "picture lowering" operators, we compute the tree level scattering amplitude in the minimal pure spinor formalism by performing the integration over the pure spinor space as a multidimensional Cauchy-type integral. The amplitude will be written in terms of the projective pure spinor variables, which turns out to be useful to relate rigorously the minimal and non-minimal versions of the pure spinor formalism. The natural language for relating these formalisms is the Cech-Dolbeault isomorphism. Moreover, the Dolbeault cocycle corresponding to the tree-level scattering amplitude must be evaluated in SO(10)/SU(5) instead of the whole pure spinor space, which means that the origin is removed from this space. Also, the Cech-Dolbeault language plays a key role for proving the invariance of the scattering amplitude under BRST, Lorentz and supersymmetry transformations, as well as the decoupling of unphysical states. We also relate the Green's function for the massless scalar field in ten dimensions to the tree-level scattering amplitude and comment about the scattering amplitude at higher orders. In contrast with the traditional picture lowering operators, with our new proposal the tree level scattering amplitude is independent of the constant spinors introduced to define them and the BRST exact terms decouple without integrating over these constant spinors.

The Overall Coefficient of the Two-loop Superstring Amplitude Using Pure Spinors

Using the results recently obtained for computing integrals over (non-minimal) pure spinor superspace, we compute the coefficient of the massless two-loop four-point amplitude from first principles. Contrasting with the mathematical difficulties in the RNS formalism where unknown normalizations of chiral determinant formulae force the two-loop coefficient to be determined only indirectly through factorization, the computation in the pure spinor formalism can be smoothly carried out.

One-loop Superstring Amplitude From Integrals on Pure Spinors Space

In the Type II superstring the 4-point function for massless NS-NS bosons at one-loop is well known [1][14]. The overall constant factor in this amplitude is very important because it needs to satisfy the unitarity and S-duality conditions [14]. This coefficient has not been computed in the pure spinor formalism due to the difficulty to solve the integrals on the pure spinors space. In this paper we compute it by using the non-minimal pure spinor formalism and we will show that the answer is in perfect agreement with the one given in [14].
