Pattern expansions of permutation statistics

We study the expansions of permutation statistics in the basis of functions counting occurrences of a fixed pattern in a permutation. We show the finiteness of these pattern expansions for a class of permutation statistics including the higher moment statistics, generalizing a result of Berman and Tenner. We also give a combinatorial criterion for the positivity of pattern expansions. Using this criterion, we show that the pattern expansion of the number of reduced words of a permutation is positive and give an enumerative interpretation for the coefficients.

Pattern bounds for principal specializations of ββ-Grothendieck Polynomials

There has been recent interest in lower bounds for the principal specializations of Schubert polynomials νw:=Sw(1,…,1)ν_w := \mathfrak S_w(1,\dots,1). We prove a conjecture of Yibo Gao in the setting of 12431243-avoiding permutations that gives a lower bound for νwν_w in terms of the permutation patterns contained in ww. We extended this result to principal specializations of ββ-Grothendieck polynomials νw(β):=Gw(β)(1,…,1)ν^{(β)}_w := \mathfrak G^{(β)}_w(1,\dots,1) by restricting to the class of vexillary 12431243-avoiding permutations. Our methods are bijective, offering a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients cwc_w and cw(β)c^{(β)}_w appearing in these conjectures.
