Less Conservative Robust Reference Governors and Their Applications

The applications of reference governors to systems with unmeasured set-bounded disturbances can lead to conservative solutions. This conservatism can be reduced by estimating the disturbance from output measurements and canceling it in the nominal control law. In this paper, a reference governor based on such an approach is considered and time-varying, disturbance and state estimation errors bounding sets are derived. Consequently, the traditional implementation of a reference governor, which exploits a constraint admissible positively-invariant set of constant commands and initial states, is replaced by one which utilizes a time-dependent sequence of similar sets (which are not necessary nested). Examples are reported which include two applications to longitudinal control of aircraft that illustrate handling of elevator uncertainty and wing icing.

Frequency support Scheme based on parametrized power curve for de-loaded Wind Turbine under various wind speed

With increased wind power penetration in modern power systems, wind plants are required to provide frequency support similar to conventional plants. However, for the existing frequency regulation scheme of wind turbines, the control gains in the auxiliary frequency controller are difficult to set because of the compromise of the frequency regulation performance and the stable operation of wind turbines, especially when the wind speed remains variable. This paper proposes a novel frequency regulation scheme (FRS) for de-loaded wind turbines. Instead of an auxiliary frequency controller, frequency support is provided by modifying the parametrized power versus rotor speed curve, including the inertia power versus rotor speed curve and the droop power versus rotor speed curve. The advantage of the proposed scheme is that it does not contain any control gains and generally adapts to different wind speeds. Further, the proposed scheme can work for the whole section of wind speed without wind speed measurement information. The compared simulation results demonstrate the scheme improves the system frequency response while ensuring the stable operation of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs)-based variable-speed wind turbines (VSWTs) under various wind conditions. Furthermore, the scheme prevents rotor speed overdeceleration even when the wind speed decreases during frequency regulation control.

Modeling Review Spam Using Temporal Patterns and Co-bursting Behaviors

Online reviews play a crucial role in helping consumers evaluate and compare products and services. However, review hosting sites are often targeted by opinion spamming. In recent years, many such sites have put a great deal of effort in building effective review filtering systems to detect fake reviews and to block malicious accounts. Thus, fraudsters or spammers now turn to compromise, purchase or even raise reputable accounts to write fake reviews. Based on the analysis of a real-life dataset from a review hosting site (dianping.com), we discovered that reviewers' posting rates are bimodal and the transitions between different states can be utilized to differentiate spammers from genuine reviewers. Inspired by these findings, we propose a two-mode Labeled Hidden Markov Model to detect spammers. Experimental results show that our model significantly outperforms supervised learning using linguistic and behavioral features in identifying spammers. Furthermore, we found that when a product has a burst of reviews, many spammers are likely to be actively involved in writing reviews to the product as well as to many other products. We then propose a novel co-bursting network for detecting spammer groups. The co-bursting network enables us to produce more accurate spammer groups than the current state-of-the-art reviewer-product (co-reviewing) network.
