Democratizing planetary-scale analysis: An ultra-lightweight Earth embedding database for accurate and flexible global land monitoring

The rapid evolution of satellite-borne Earth Observation (EO) systems has revolutionized terrestrial monitoring, yielding petabyte-scale archives. However, the immense computational and storage requirements for global-scale analysis often preclude widespread use, hindering planetary-scale studies. To address these barriers, we present Embedded Seamless Data (ESD), an ultra-lightweight, 30-m global Earth embedding database spanning the 25-year period from 2000 to 2024. By transforming high-dimensional, multi-sensor observations from the Landsat series (5, 7, 8, and 9) and MODIS Terra into information-dense, quantized latent vectors, ESD distills essential geophysical and semantic features into a unified latent space. Utilizing the ESDNet architecture and Finite Scalar Quantization (FSQ), the dataset achieves a transformative ~340-fold reduction in data volume compared to raw archives. This compression allows the entire global land surface for a single year to be encapsulated within approximately 2.4 TB, enabling decadal-scale global analysis on standard local workstations. Rigorous validation demonstrates high reconstructive fidelity (MAE: 0.0130; RMSE: 0.0179; CC: 0.8543). By condensing the annual phenological cycle into 12 temporal steps, the embeddings provide inherent denoising and a semantically organized space that outperforms raw reflectance in land-cover classification, achieving 79.74% accuracy (vs. 76.92% for raw fusion). With robust few-shot learning capabilities and longitudinal consistency, ESD provides a versatile foundation for democratizing planetary-scale research and advancing next-generation geospatial artificial intelligence.

Wetland mapping from sparse annotations with satellite image time series and temporal-aware segment anything model

Accurate wetland mapping is essential for ecosystem monitoring, yet dense pixel-level annotation is prohibitively expensive and practical applications usually rely on sparse point labels, under which existing deep learning models perform poorly, while strong seasonal and inter-annual wetland dynamics further render single-date imagery inadequate and lead to significant mapping errors; although foundation models such as SAM show promising generalization from point prompts, they are inherently designed for static images and fail to model temporal information, resulting in fragmented masks in heterogeneous wetlands. To overcome these limitations, we propose WetSAM, a SAM-based framework that integrates satellite image time series for wetland mapping from sparse point supervision through a dual-branch design, where a temporally prompted branch extends SAM with hierarchical adapters and dynamic temporal aggregation to disentangle wetland characteristics from phenological variability, and a spatial branch employs a temporally constrained region-growing strategy to generate reliable dense pseudo-labels, while a bidirectional consistency regularization jointly optimizes both branches. Extensive experiments across eight global regions of approximately 5,000 km2 each demonstrate that WetSAM substantially outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving an average F1-score of 85.58%, and delivering accurate and structurally consistent wetland segmentation with minimal labeling effort, highlighting its strong generalization capability and potential for scalable, low-cost, high-resolution wetland mapping.

First Principle Study of Gravitational Pressure and Thermodynamics of FRW Universe

We make a first principle study of gravitational pressure in cosmic thermodynamics. The pressure is directly derived from the unified first law, in fact the Einstein field equation in spherically symmetric spacetime. By using this pressure, we obtain the thermodynamics for the FRW universe, especially presenting the gravitational equation of state for the FRW spacetime itself, i.e. $P=P(R_A, T)$ for the first time. Furthermore, we study the Joule-Thomson expansion as an application of the thermodynamic equation of state to find the cooling-heating property of the FRW universe. We demonstrate that there is an inversion temperature for a FRW universe if its enthalpy ${\cal H}$ is negative. These investigations shed insights on the evolution of our universe in view of thermodynamics.

True gravitational atom: Spherical cloud of dilatonic black holes

Black hole as elementary particle is a fairly glamorous idea. For ordinary black holes, a surrounding particle inevitably penetrates into the interior of the hole since the center of the hole is an infinite potential well. For the first time we demonstrate that an extreme dilatonic black hole in spherical symmetry perfectly behaves as an atom, in the sense that its surrounding cloud of particles are completely stable. Thus we reach a spherical cloud of dilatonic black hole. We find exact wave functions of the cloud for arbitrary gravitational fine structure constant $μM$, and clear the underlying physical nature of the stability. Through careful studies of the exact wave function, we find the spectrum of this system. We discuss the physical meaning of this discovery especially from considerations of entropy, and the resultant possibility to explore quantization of gravitational waves from coming observations.

Spherical gravitational waves and quasi-spherical waves scattered from black string in massive gravity

Spherical gravitational wave is strictly forbidden in vacuum space in frame of general relativity by the Birkhoff theorem. We prove that spherical gravitational waves do exist in non-linear massive gravity, and find the exact solution. Further more, we find exact gravitational wave solution with a singular string by meticulous studies of familiar equation, in which the horizon becomes non-compact. We analyze the properties of the congruence of graviton rays of these wave solution. We clarify subtle points of dispersion relation, velocity and mass of graviton in massive gravity with linear perturbations. We find that the graviton ray can be null in massive gravity by considering full back reaction of the massive gravitational waves to the metric. We demonstrate that massive gravity has deep and fundamental discrepancy from general relativity, for whatever a tiny mass of the graviton.

Brown-York energy in stationary spacetimes

One usually defines the Brown-York energy for a 2-surface embedded in a spacelike 3-slice as an integration of the mean curvature of the 2-surface isometrically embedded into the 3-slice, with a proper reference 3-space. We demonstrate that this naive definition is ill for stationary spacetimes. As an example, we investigate the Kerr-Newman spacetime in detail. We show that the naive definition of the Brown-York energy is not a component of the Brown-York boundary stress tensor, and thus deviates from the original idea of Brown and York. Furthermore, we present the exact form of the Brown-York energy for the Kerr-Newman spacetime with the proper reference.

Quasibound states of charged dilatonic black holes

Investigation of quasibound states of black holes is significant for expected ultra light particles, as well as black holes through gravitational waves. We first investigate quasibound states of a massive scalar field for dilatonic charged black holes via numerical analysis. We study the complex eigen frequencies of the massive scalar field in a wide range of gravitational fine structure constant $μM$ in detail, and show the effects of charge. Further, we study the eigen frequencies of the massive field through analytical approach by matching the near horizon solution and far field solution, and find its spectra for excited states by iteration method. We demonstrate the numerical solution and analytical solution perfectly agree with each other in the region where charge of the black hole is large, both for real and imaginary parts of the eigen frequencies.

Scattering of massless scalar field by charged dilatonic black holes

Wave propagations in the presence of black holes is a significant problem both in theoretical and observational aspects, especially after the discovery of gravitational wave and confirmation of black holes. We study the scattering of massless scalar field by a charged dilatonic black hole in frame of full wave theory. We apply partial wave method to obtain the scattering cross sections of the scalar field, and investigate how the black hole charge affects the scalar scattering cross sections. Furthermore, we investigate the Regge pole approach of the scattering cross section of the dilatonic black hole. We find that in order to obtain results at the same precision, we need more Regge poles as the black hole charge increases. We compare the results in the full wave theory and results in the classical geodesic scattering and the semi-classical glory approximations, and demonstrate the improvements and power of our approach.

Tail wavelets in the merger of binary compact objects

We present a model for tail wavelets, a phenomenon also known as "echo" in the literature. The tail wavelet may appear in signal reconnaissances in the merger of binary compact objects, including black holes and neutron stars. We show that the dark matter surrounding the compact objects lead to the speculated tail wavelet following the main gravitational wave (GW). We demonstrate that the radiation pressure of the main wave is fully capable of pushing away the the surrounding matter to some altitude, and splashing down of the matter excites the tail wavelet after ring down of the main wave. We illustrate this idea in a simplified model, where numerical estimations are carried out concerning the specific distribution of the dark matter outside the black hole horizon and the threshold values in accordance with observations. We study the full back reaction of the surrounding dark matter to the metric, and find that the effect is insignificant to the tail wavelets. We find the fine difference between the tail wavelets of a dressed black hole and a bare one. We demonstrate that the tail wavelet can be a natural phenomenon in frame of general relativity, without invoking any modified gravities or quantum effects.

Twisted spacetime in Einstein gravity

We find a vacuum stationary twisted solution in four-dimensional Einstein gravity. Its frame dragging angular velocities are antisymmetric with respect to the equatorial plane. It possesses a symmetry of joint inversion of time and parity with respect to the equatorial plane. Its Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) mass and angular momentum are zero. It is curved but regular all over the manifold. Its Komar mass and Komar angular momentum are also zero. Its infinite red-shift surface coincides with its event horizon, since the event horizon does not rotate. Furthermore we extend this solution to the massive case, and find some similar properties. This solution is a stationary axisymmetric solution, but not Kerr. It explicitly proves that pure Einstein gravity permits different rotational mode other than Kerr. Our results demonstrate that the Einstein theory may have much more rich structures than what we ever imagine.

Misner-Sharp Mass and the Unified First Law in Massive Gravity

We obtain the Misner-Sharp mass in the massive gravity for a four dimensional spacetime with a two dimensional maximally symmetric subspace via the inverse unified first law method. Significantly, the stress energy is conserved in this case with a widely used reference metric. Based on this property we confirm the derived Misner-Sharp mass by the conserved charge method. We find that the existence of the Misner-sharp mass in this case does not lead to extra constraint for the massive gravity, which is notable in modified gravities. In addition, as a special case, we also investigate the Misner-Sharp mass in the static spacetime. Especially, we take the FRW universe into account for investigating the thermodynamics of the massive gravity. The result shows that the massive gravity can be in thermodynamic equilibrium, which fills in the gap in the previous studies of thermodynamics in the massive gravity.

Black holes and gravitational waves in three-dimensional f(R) gravity

In the three-dimensional pure Einstein gravity, the geometries of the vacuum space-times are always trivial, and gravitational waves (gravitons) are strictly forbidden. For the first time, we find a vacuum circularly symmetric black hole with nontrivial geometries in $f(R)$ gravity theory, in which a true singularity appears. In this frame with nontrivial geometry, a perturbative gravitational wave does exist. Beyond the perturbative level, we make a constructive proof of the existence of a gravitational wave in $f(R)$ gravity, where the Birkhoff-like theorem becomes invalid. We find two classes of exact solutions of circularly symmetric pure gravitational wave radiation and absorption.

Critical behaviors of gravity under quantum perturbations

Phase transition and critical phenomenon is a very interesting topic in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. Gravity is believed to has deep and inherent relation to thermodynamics. Near the critical point, the perturbation becomes significant. Thus for ordinary matter (govern by interactions besides gravity) the critical behavior will become very different if we ignore the perturbations around the critical point, such as mean field theory. We find that the critical exponents for RN-AdS spacetime keeps the same values even we consider the full quantum perturbations. This indicates a key difference between gravity and ordinary thermodynamic system.

From thermodynamics to the solutions in gravity theory

In a recent work, we present a new point of view to the relation of gravity and thermodynamics, in which we derive the \sch~solution through thermodynamic laws by the aid of the Misner-Sharp mass in an adiabatic system. In this paper we continue to investigate the relation between gravity and thermodynamics for obtaining solutions via thermodynamics. We generalize our studies on gravi-thermodynamics in Einstein gravity to modified gravity theories. By using the first law with the assumption that the Misner-Sharp mass is the mass for an adiabatic system, we reproduce the Boulware-Deser-Cai solution in Guass-Bonnet gravity. Using this gravi-thermodynamics thought, we obtain a NEW class of solution in $F(R)$ gravity in an $n$-dimensional (n$\geq$3) spacetime which permits three-type $(n-2)$-dimensional maximally symmetric subspace, as an extension of our recent three-dimensional black hole solution, and four-dimensional Clifton-Barrow solution in $F(R)$ gravity.

Higgs Inflation on Braneworld

We discuss a Higgs inflation model in the warped DGP braneworld background. It generates reasonable primordial perturbations. At the same time with enhanced non-minimal coupling it overcomes the severe problem in the Higgs inflation in 4 dimension, which says that the effective field theory become invalid at an energy scale far below the energy scale for inflation exit. Furthermore we present the constraints for the parameters confront to PLANCK and related observations. PLANCK low-l data almost fixes the inflation energy scale in this Higgs inflation model with specific brane parameters.

Misner-Sharp Mass in $N$-dimensional $f(R)$ Gravity

We study the Misner-Sharp mass for the $f(R)$ gravity in an $n$-dimensional (n$\geq$3) spacetime which permits three-type $(n-2)$-dimensional maximally symmetric subspace. We obtain the Misner-Sharp mass via two approaches. One is the inverse unified first law method, and the other is the conserved charge method by using a generalized Kodama vector. In the first approach, we assume the unified first still holds in the $n$-dimensional $f(R)$ gravity, which requires a quasi-local mass form (We define it as the generalized Misner-Sharp mass). In the second approach, the conserved charge corresponding to the generalized local Kodama vector is the generalized Misner-Sharp mass. The two approaches are equivalent, which are bridged by a constraint. This constraint determines the existence of a well-defined Misner-Sharp mass. As an important special case, we present the explicit form for the static space, and we calculate the Misner-Sharp mass for Clifton-Barrow solution as an example.

Schwarzschild solution as a result of thermodynamics

We obtain the Schwarzschild solution from thermodynamic considerations using the assumptions of a quasi local mass form (the Misner-Sharp mass) and geometric surface gravity in a spherically symmetric spacetime. The deduction is extended to other cases such as the de Sitter, anti-de Sitter, Reissner-Nordström and higher dimensional spacetimes. This paper demonstrates the simple hypotheses to obtain these known spherically symmetric solutions via thermodynamics, where essentially the Misner-Sharp mass is the mass for an adiabatic system.

MOND cosmology from entropic force

We derive the MOND cosmology which is uniquely corresponding to the original MOND at galaxy scales via entropic gravity method. It inherits the key merit of MOND, that is, it reduces the baryonic matter and non-baryonic dark matter into baryonic matter only. For the first time we obtain the critical parameter in MOND, i.e., the transition acceleration $a_c$ at cosmological scale. We thus solve the long-standing coincidence problem $a_c\sim cH_{0}$. More interestingly, a term like age-graphic dark energy emerges naturally. In the frame of this MOND cosmology, we only need baryonic matter to describe both dark matter and dark energy in standard cosmology.

De Sitter ground state of scalar-tensor gravity and its primordial perturbation

Scalar-tensor gravity is one of the most competitive gravity theory to Einstein's relativity. We reconstruct the exact de Sitter solution in scalar-tensor gravity, in which the non-minimal coupling scalar is rolling along the potential. This solution may have some relation to the early inflation and present acceleration of the universe. We investigated its primordial quantum perturbation around the adiabatic vacuum. We put forward for the first time that exact de Sitter generates non-exactly scale invariant perturbations. In the conformal coupling case, this model predicts that the tensor mode of the perturbation (gravity wave) is strongly depressed.

New mechanism to cross the phantom divide

Recently, type Ia supernovae data appear to support a dark energy whose equation of state $w$ crosses -1, which is a much more amazing problem than the acceleration of the universe. We show that it is possible for the equation of state to cross the phantom divide by a scalar field in the gravity with an additional inverse power-law term of Ricci scalar in the Lagrangian. The necessary and sufficient condition for a universe in which the dark energy can cross the phantom divide is obtained. Some analytical solutions with $w<-1$ or $w>-1$ are obtained. A minimal coupled scalar with different potentials, including quadratic, cubic, quantic, exponential and logarithmic potentials are investigated via numerical methods, respectively. All these potentials lead to the crossing behavior. We show that it is a robust result which is hardly dependent on the concrete form of the potential of the scalar.

On asymmetric brane creation

We exhaust the brane instanton solutions---an Einstein brane inhabiting at different positions in a 5-dimensional Einstein bulk with negative curvature. We construct a brane instanton model consisting of a brane with asymmetric bulk along two sides of the brane. And the junction condition of the resulting space-time is analyzed in the frame of induced gravity (DGP model). In spirits of quantum gravity of path integral formulism we calculate the Euclidean actions on three canonical paths and then compare the Euclidean actions of different instantons per unit 4-volume. We also compare the Euclidean actions per unit 4-volume of instantons, which consist of a brane gluing to a fixed half, with other Euclidean actions of halves possessing different cosmological constants.

Brane tachyon dynamics

The dynamics of a tachyon attached to a Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) brane is investigated. Exponential potential and inverse power law potential are explored, respectively. The quasi-attractor behavior, for which the universe will eventually go into a phase similar to the slow-roll inflation, is discovered in both cases of exponential potential and inverse power law potential. The equation of state (EOS) of the virtual dark energy for a single scalar can cross the phantom divide in the branch $θ=-1$ for both potentials, while the EOS of the virtual dark energy for a single scalar can not cross this divide in the branch $θ=1$.

De Sitter ground state of scalar-tensor gravity and its fluctuation with dust

An exact de Sitter solution of scalar-tensor gravity is found, in which the non-minimal coupling scalar is rolling along a non-constant potential. Based on this solution, a dust-filled FRW universe is explored in frame of scalar-tensor gravity. The effective dark energy induced by the sole non-minimal scalar can be quintessence-like, phantom-like, and more significantly, can cross the phantom divide. The rich and varied properties of scalar-tensor gravity even with only one scalar is shown in this article.

Does the Cosmos have two times? Multi-time and cosmic acceleration

We put forward a multi-time theory, in frame of which the cosmic acceleration is a natural phenomenon without cosmological constant or anything like that. The main point of this theory is that each of the gravity interaction and electromagnetic interaction has its own time, respectively. Also we give a concrete model of this theory which can exactly simulate $Λ$CDM. Further we discuss the possible observations which may improve this theory in the future.

Semi-Holographic Universe

By assuming that a dark component (dark energy) in the universe strictly obeys the holographic principle, that is, its entropy is one fourth of the apparent horizon, we find that the existence of the other dark component (dark matter) is compulsory, as a compensation of dark energy, based on the first law of thermodynamics. By using the method of dynamical system analysis, we find that there exists a stable dark energy-dark matter scaling solution at late time, which is helpful to solve the coincidence problem. For reasonable parameters, the deceleration parameter is well consistent with current observations.

Braneworld cosmology in the sourced-Taub background

A new braneworld in the sourced-Taub background is proposed. The gravity field equations in the internal source region and external vacuum region are investigated, respectively. We find that the equation of state for the effective dark energy of a dust brane in the source region can cross the phantom divide $w=-1$. Furthermore, there is a drop on $H(z)$ diagram, which presents a possible mechanism for the recent direct data of $H(z)$.

Does Unruh radiation accelerate the universe? A novel approach to the cosmic acceleration

We present a novel mechanism for the present acceleration of the universe. We find that the temperature of the Unruh radiation perceived by the brane is not equal to the inherent temperature (Hawking temperature at the apparent horizon) of the brane universe in the frame of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model. The Unruh radiation perceived by a dust dominated brane is always warmer than the brane measured by the geometric temperature, which naturally induces an energy flow between bulk and brane based on the most sound thermodynamics principles. Through a thorough investigation to the microscopic mechanism of interaction between bulk Unruh radiation and brane matter, we put forward that an energy influx from bulk Unruh radiation to the dust matter on the brane accelerates the universe.

Hybrid Chaplygin gas and phantom divide crossing

Hybrid Chaplygin gas model is put forward, in which the gases play the role of dark energy. For this model the coincidence problem is greatly alleviated. The effective equation of state of the dark energy may cross the phantom divide $w=-1$. Furthermore, the crossing behaviour is decoupled from any gravity theories. In the present model, $w<-1$ is only a transient behaviour. There is a de Sitter attractor in the future infinity. Hence, the big rip singularity, which often afflicts the models with matter whose effective equation of state less than -1, is naturally disappear. There exist stable scaling solutions, both at the early universe and the late universe. We discuss the perturbation growth of this model. We find that the index is consistent with observations.

N-dimensional plane symmetric solution with perfect fluid source

A new class of plane symmetric solution sourced by a perfect fluid is found in our recent work. An n-dimensional ($n\geq 4$) global plane symmetric solution of Einstein field equation generated by a perfect fluid source is investigated, which is the direct generalization of our previous 4-dimensional solution. One time-like Killing vector and $(n-2)(n-1)/2$ space-like Killing vectors, which span a Euclidean group $G_{(n-2)(n-1)/2}$, are permitted in this solution. The regions of the parameters constrained by weak, strong and dominant energy conditions for the source are studied. The boundary condition to match to n-dimensional Taub metric and Minkowski metric are analyzed respectively.
