Vision-based Uneven BEV Representation Learning with Polar Rasterization and Surface Estimation

In this work, we propose PolarBEV for vision-based uneven BEV representation learning. To adapt to the foreshortening effect of camera imaging, we rasterize the BEV space both angularly and radially, and introduce polar embedding decomposition to model the associations among polar grids. Polar grids are rearranged to an array-like regular representation for efficient processing. Besides, to determine the 2D-to-3D correspondence, we iteratively update the BEV surface based on a hypothetical plane, and adopt height-based feature transformation. PolarBEV keeps real-time inference speed on a single 2080Ti GPU, and outperforms other methods for both BEV semantic segmentation and BEV instance segmentation. Thorough ablations are presented to validate the design. The code will be released at \url{https://github.com/SuperZ-Liu/PolarBEV}.

On singular square metrics with vanishing Douglas curvature

Square metrics $F=\frac{(α+β)^2}α$ are a special class of Finsler metrics. It is the rate kind of metric category to be of excellent geometrical properties. In this paper, we discuss the so-called singular square metrics $F=\frac{(bα+β)^2}α$. A characterization for such metrics to be of vanishing Douglas curvature is provided. Moreover, many analytical examples are achieved by using a special kinds of metrical deformations called $β$-deformations.

On general (alpha,beta)-metrics with vanishing Douglas curvature

In this paper, we study a class of Finsler metrics called general $(α,β)$-metrics, which are defined by a Riemannian metric $α$ and a $1$-form $β$. We find an equation which is necessary and sufficient condition for such Finsler metric to be a Douglas metric. By solving this equation, we obtain all of general $(α,β)$-metrics with vanishing Douglas curvature under certain condition. Many new non-trivial examples are explicitly constructed.

Projectively flat general $(α,β)$-metrics with constant flag curvature

In this paper we study the flag curvature of a particular class of Finsler metrics called general $(α,β)$-metrics, which are defined by a Riemannian metric $α$ and a $1$-form $β$. The classification of such metrics with constant flag curvature are completely determined under some suitable conditions, which make them be locally projectively flat. As a result, we construct some new projectively flat Finsler metrics with flag curvature $1$, $0$ and $-1$, all of which are of singularity at some directions.

On a new class of Finsler metrics

In this paper, the geometric meaning of (alpha,beta)-norms is made clear. On this basis, we introduce a new class of Finsler metrics called general (alpha,beta)-metrics, which are defined by a Riemannian metric and an 1-form. These metrics not only generalize original (alpha,beta)-metrics naturally, but also include some metrics structured by R. Bryant. The notion of general (alpha,beta)-metrics is one of the original ideas belongs to the first author(another one is beta-deformations intruduced in the paper "Deformations and Hilbert's Fourth Problem"). We believe that the researches on general (alpha,beta)-metrics will enrich Finsler geometry and the approaches offer references for further study. But it seems that the classical methods suitable for (alpha,beta)-metrics may not be suitable for them, the idea used in this paper, which is closely related to beta-deformations, is non-classical. Any communication or suggestion is welcome.
