VeraRetouch: A Lightweight Fully Differentiable Framework for Multi-Task Reasoning Photo Retouching

Reasoning photo retouching has gained significant traction, requiring models to analyze image defects, give reasoning processes, and execute precise retouching enhancements. However, existing approaches often rely on non-differentiable external software, creating optimization barriers and suffering from high parameter redundancy and limited generalization. To address these challenges, we propose VeraRetouch, a lightweight and fully differentiable framework for multi-task photo retouching. We employ a 0.5B Vision-Language Model (VLM) as the central intelligence to formulate retouching plans based on instructions and scene semantics. Furthermore, we develop a fully differentiable Retouch Renderer that replaces external tools, enabling direct end-to-end pixel-level training through decoupled control latents for lighting, global color, and specific color adjustments. To overcome data scarcity, we introduce AetherRetouch-1M+, the first million-scale dataset for professional retouching, constructed via a new inverse degradation workflow. Furthermore, we propose DAPO-AE, a reinforcement learning post-training strategy that enhances autonomous aesthetic cognition. Extensive experiments demonstrate that VeraRetouch achieves state-of-the-art performance across multiple benchmarks while maintaining a significantly smaller footprint, enabling mobile deployment. Classify Respiratory Abnormality in Lung Sounds Using STFT and a Fine-Tuned ResNet18 Network

Recognizing patterns in lung sounds is crucial to detecting and monitoring respiratory diseases. Current techniques for analyzing respiratory sounds demand domain experts and are subject to interpretation. Hence an accurate and automatic respiratory sound classification system is desired. In this work, we took a data-driven approach to classify abnormal lung sounds. We compared the performance using three different feature extraction techniques, which are short-time Fourier transformation (STFT), Mel spectrograms, and Wav2vec, as well as three different classifiers, including pre-trained ResNet18, LightCNN, and Audio Spectrogram Transformer. Our key contributions include the bench-marking of different audio feature extractors and neural network based classifiers, and the implementation of a complete pipeline using STFT and a fine-tuned ResNet18 network. The proposed method achieved Harmonic Scores of 0.89, 0.80, 0.71, 0.36 for tasks 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 2-2, respectively on the testing sets in the IEEE BioCAS 2022 Grand Challenge on Respiratory Sound Classification.

Exchange field enhanced upper critical field of the superconductivity in compressed antiferromagnetic EuTe2

We report high pressure studies on the C-type antiferromagnetic semiconductor EuTe2 up to 36.0 GPa. A structural transition from the I4/mcm to C2/m space group is identified at ~16 GPa. Superconductivity is discovered above ~5 GPa in both the I4/mcm and C2/m space groups. In the low-pressure phase (< 16 GPa), the antiferromagnetic transition temperature is enhanced with increasing pressure due to the enhanced magnetic exchange interactions. Magnetoresistance measurements indicate an interplay between the local moments of Eu2+ and the conduction electrons of Te 5p orbits. The upper critical field of the superconductivity is well above the Pauli limit. Across the structural transition to the high-pressure phase (> 16 GPa), EuTe2 becomes nonmagnetic and the superconducting transition temperature evolves smoothly with the upper critical field below the Pauli limit. Therefore, the high upper critical field of EuTe2 in the low-pressure phase is due to the exchange field compensation effect of the Eu magnetic order and the superconductivity in both structures may arise in the framework of the BCS theory.
