Quasi-Hopf twist and elliptic Nekrasov factor

We investigate the quasi-Hopf twist of the quantum toroidal algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_1$ as an elliptic deformation. Under the quasi-Hopf twist the underlying algebra remains the same, but the coproduct is deformed, where the twist parameter $p$ is identified as the elliptic modulus. Computing the quasi-Hopf twist of the $R$ matrix, we uncover the relation to the elliptic lift of the Nekrasov factor for instanton counting of the quiver gauge theories on $\mathbb{R}^4 \times T^2$. The same $R$ matrix also appears in the commutation relation of the intertwiners, which implies an elliptic quantum KZ equation for the trace of intertwiners. We also show that it allows a solution which is factorized into the elliptic Nekrasov factors and the triple elliptic gamma function.

Quiver matrix model of ADHM type and BPS state counting in diverse dimensions

We review the problem of BPS state counting described by the generalized quiver matrix model of ADHM type. In four dimensions the generating function of the counting gives the Nekrasov partition function and we obtain generalization in higher dimensions. By the localization theorem, the partition function is given by the sum of contributions from the fixed points of the torus action, which are labeled by partitions, plane partitions and solid partitions. The measure or the Boltzmann weight of the path integral can take the form of the plethystic exponential. Remarkably after integration the partition function or the vacuum expectation value is again expressed in plethystic form. We regard it as a characteristic property of the BPS state counting problem, which is closely related to the integrability.

Explicit examples of DIM constraints for network matrix models

Dotsenko-Fateev and Chern-Simons matrix models, which describe Nekrasov functions for SYM theories in different dimensions, are all incorporated into network matrix models with the hidden Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) symmetry. This lifting is especially simple for what we call balanced networks. Then, the Ward identities (known under the names of Virasoro/W-constraints or loop equations or regularity condition for qq-characters) are also promoted to the DIM level, where they all become corollaries of a single identity.

Toric Calabi-Yau threefolds as quantum integrable systems. R-matrix and RTT relations

R-matrix is explicitly constructed for simplest representations of the Ding-Iohara-Miki algebra. The calculation is straightforward and significantly simpler than the one through the universal R-matrix used for a similar calculation in the Yangian case by A.~Smirnov but less general. We investigate the interplay between the R-matrix structure and the structure of DIM algebra intertwiners, i.e.\ of refined topological vertices and show that the R-matrix is diagonalized by the action of the spectral duality belonging to the SL(2,Z) group of DIM algebra automorphisms. We also construct the T-operators satisfying the RTT relations with the R-matrix from refined amplitudes on resolved conifold. We thus show that topological string theories on the toric Calabi-Yau threefolds can be naturally interpreted as lattice integrable models. Integrals of motion for these systems are related to q-deformation of the reflection matrices of the Liouville/Toda theories.

Hyperkahler Metrics from Monopole Walls

We present ALH hyperkahler metrics induced from well-separated SU(2) monopole walls which are equivalent to monopoles on T^2 x R. The metrics are explicitly obtained due to Manton's observation by using explicit monopole solutions. These are doubly-periodic and have the modular invariance with respect to the complex structure of the complex torus T^2. We also derive metrics from monopole walls with Dirac-type singularities.

W_3 irregular states and isolated N=2 superconformal field theories

We explore the proposal that the six-dimensional (2,0) theory on the Riemann surface with irregular punctures leads to a four-dimensional gauge theory coupled to the isolated N=2 superconformal theories of Argyres-Douglas type, and to two-dimensional conformal field theory with irregular states. Following the approach of Gaiotto-Teschner for the Virasoro case, we construct W_3 irregular states by colliding a single SU(3) puncture with several regular punctures of simple type. If n simple punctures are colliding with the SU(3) puncture, the resulting irregular state is a simultaneous eigenvector of the positive modes L_n, ..., L_{2n} and W_{2n}, ..., W_{3n} of the W_3 algebra. We find the corresponding isolated SCFT with an SU(3) flavor symmetry as a nontrivial IR fixed point on the Coulomb branch of the SU(3) linear quiver gauge theories, by confirming that its Seiberg-Witten curve correctly predicts the conditions for the W_3 irregular states. We also compare these SCFT's with the ones obtained from the BPS quiver method.

Changing the preferred direction of the refined topological vertex

We consider the issue of the slice invariance of refined topological string amplitudes, which means that they are independent of the choice of the preferred direction of the refined topological vertex. We work out two examples. The first example is a geometric engineering of five-dimensional U(1) gauge theory with a matter. The slice invariance follows from a highly non-trivial combinatorial identity which equates two known ways of computing the chi_y genus of the Hilbert scheme of points on C^2. The second example is concerned with the proposal that the superpolynomials of the colored Hopf link are obtained from a refinement of topological open string amplitudes. We provide a closed formula for the superpolynomial, which confirms the slice invariance when the Hopf link is colored with totally anti-symmetric representations. However, we observe a breakdown of the slice invariance for other representations.

Generalized Whittaker states for instanton counting with fundamental hypermultiplets

M-theoretic construction of N=2 gauge theories implies that the instanton partition function is expressed as the scalar product of coherent states (Whittaker states) in the Verma module of an appropriate two dimensional conformal field theory. We present the characterizing conditions for such states that give the partition function with fundamental hypermultiplets for SU(3) theory and SU(2) theory with a surface operator. We find the states are no longer the coherent states in the strict sense but we can characterize them in terms of a few annihilation operators of lower levels combined with the zero mode (Cartan part) of the Virasoro algebra L_0 or the sl(2) current algebra J_0^0.

Localization with a Surface Operator, Irregular Conformal Blocks and Open Topological String

Following a recent paper by Alday and Tachikawa, we compute the instanton partition function in the presence of the surface operator by the localization formula on the moduli space. For SU(2) theories we find an exact agreement with CFT correlation functions with a degenerate operator insertion, which enables us to work out the decoupling limit of the superconformal theory with four flavors to asymptotically free theories at the level of differential equations for CFT correlation functions (irregular conformal blocks). We also argue that the K theory (or five dimensional) lift of these computations gives open topological string amplitudes on local Hirzebruch surface and its blow ups, which is regarded as a geometric engineering of the surface operator. By computing the amplitudes in both A and B models we collect convincing evidences of the agreement of the instanton partition function with surface operator and the partition function of open topological string.

Instanton counting with a surface operator and the chain-saw quiver

We describe the moduli space of SU(N) instantons in the presence of a general surface operator of type N=n_1+ ... +n_M in terms of the representations of the so-called chain-saw quiver, which allows us to write down the instanton partition function as a summation over the fixed point contributions labeled by Young diagrams. We find that the instanton partition function depends on the ordering of n_I which fixes a choice of the parabolic structure. This is in accord with the fact that the Verma module of the W-algebra also depends on the ordering of n_I. By explicit calculations, we check that the partition function agrees with the norm of a coherent state in the corresponding Verma module.

Macdonald operators and homological invariants of the colored Hopf link

Using a power sum (boson) realization for the Macdonald operators, we investigate the Gukov, Iqbal, Kozcaz and Vafa (GIKV) proposal for the homological invariants of the colored Hopf link, which include Khovanov-Rozansky homology as a special case. We prove the polynomiality of the invariants obtained by GIKV's proposal for arbitrary representations. We derive a closed formula of the invariants of the colored Hopf link for antisymmetric representations. We argue that a little amendment of GIKV's proposal is required to make all the coefficients of the polynomial non-negative integers.

Quiver Matrix Model and Topological Partition Function in Six Dimensions

We consider a topological quiver matrix model which is expected to give a dual description of the instanton dynamics of topological U(N) gauge theory on D6 branes. The model is a higher dimensional analogue of the ADHM matrix model that leads to Nekrasov's partition function. The fixed points of the toric action on the moduli space are labeled by colored plane partitions. Assuming the localization theorem, we compute the partition function as an equivariant index. It turns out that the partition function does not depend on the vacuum expectation values of Higgs fields that break U(N) symmetry to U(1)^N at low energy. We conjecture a general formula of the partition function, which reduces to a power of the MacMahon function, if we impose the Calabi-Yau condition. For non Calabi-Yau case we prove the conjecture up to the third order in the instanton expansion.

Instanton calculus and chiral one-point functions in supersymmetric gauge theories

We compute topological one-point functions of the chiral operator Tr ϕ^k in the maximally confining phase of U(N) supersymmetric gauge theory. These one-point functions are polynomials in the equivariant parameter \hbar and the parameter of instanton expansion q=Λ^{2N} and are of particular interest from gauge/string theory correspondence, since they are related to the Gromov-Witten theory of P^1. Based on a combinatorial identity that gives summation formula over Young diagrams of relevant functions, we find a relation among chiral one-point functions, which recursively determines the \hbar expansion of the generating function of one-point functions. Using a result from the operator formalism of the Gromov-Witten theory, we also present a vacuum expectation value of the loop operator Tr e^{itϕ}.

Harmonic Forms and Deformation of ALC metrics with Spin(7) holonomy

Asymptotically locally conical (ALC) metric of exceptional holonomy has an asymptotic circle bundle structure that accommodates the M theory circle in type IIA reduction. Taking Spin(7) metrics of cohomogeneity one as explicit examples, we investigate deformations of ALC metrics, in particular that change the asymptotic S^1 radius related to the type IIA string coupling constant. When the canonical four form of Spin(7) holonomy is taken to be anti-self-dual, the deformations of Spin(7) metric are related to the harmonic self-dual four forms, which are given by solutions to a system of first order differential equations, due to the metric ansatz of cohomogeneity one. We identify the L^2-normalizable solution that deforms the asymptotic radius of the M theory circle.

Five-Dimensional Gauge Theories and Local Mirror Symmetry

We study the dynamics of 5-dimensional gauge theory on $M_4\times S^1$ by compactifying type II/M theory on degenerate Calabi-Yau manifolds. We use the local mirror symmetry and shall show that the prepotential of the 5-dimensional SU(2) gauge theory without matter is given exactly by that of the type II string theory compactified on the local ${\bf F}_2$, i.e. Hirzebruch surface ${\bf F}_2$ lying inside a non-compact Calabi-Yau manifold. It is shown that our result reproduces the Seiberg-Witten theory at the 4-dimensional limit $R\to 0$ ($R$ denotes the radius of $S^1$) and also the result of the uncompactified 5-dimensional theory at $R\to \infty$. We also discuss SU(2) gauge theory with $1\le N_f\le 4$ matter in vector representations and show that they are described by the geometry of the local ${\bf F}_2$ blown up at $N_f$ points.

Picard-Fuchs Equation and Prepotential of Five Dimensional SUSY Gauge Theory Compactified on a Circle

Five dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory compactified on a circle defines an effective N=2 supersymmetric theory for massless fields in four dimensions. Based on the relativistic Toda chain Hamiltonian proposed by Nekrasov, we derive the Picard-Fuchs equation on the moduli space of the Coulomb branch of SU(2) gauge theory. Our Picard-Fuchs equation agrees with those from other approaches; the spectral curve of XXZ spin chain and supersymmetric cycle in compactified M theory. By making use of a relation to the Picard-Fuchs equation of SU(2) Seiberg-Witten theory, we obtain the prepotential and the effective coupling constant that incorporate both a perturbative effect of Kaluza-Klein modes and a non-perturbative one of four dimensional instantons. In the weak coupling regime we check that the prepotential exhibits a consistent behavior in large and small radius limits of the circle.

Topological Strings with Scaling Violation and Toda Lattice Hierarchy

We show that there is a series of topological string theories whose integrable structure is described by the Toda lattice hierarchy. The monodromy group of the Frobenius manifold for the matter sector is an extension of the affine Weyl group $\widetilde W (A_N^{(1)})$ introduced by Dubrovin. These models are generalizations of the topological $CP^1$ string theory with scaling violation. The logarithmic Hamiltonians generate flows for the puncture operator and its descendants. We derive the string equation from the constraints on the Lax and the Orlov operators. The constraints are of different type from those for the $c=1$ string theory. Higher genus expansion is obtained by considering the Lax operator in matrix form.

Lie Superalgebra and Extended Topological Conformal Symmetry in Non-critical $W_{3}$ Strings

We obtain a new free field realization of $N=2$ super $W_{3}$ algebra using the technique of quantum hamiltonian reduction. The construction is based on a particular choice of the simple root system of the affine Lie superalgebra $sl(3|2)^{(1)}$ associated with a non-standard $sl(2)$ embedding. After twisting and a similarity transformation, this $W$ algebra can be identified as the extended topological conformal algebra of non-critical $W_{3}$ string theory.

Hamiltonian Reduction and Topological Conformal Algebra in $c\leq 1$ Non-critical Strings

We study the hamiltonian reduction of affine Lie superalgebra $sl(2|1)^{(1)}$. Based on a scalar Lax operator formalism, we derive the free field realization of the classical topological topological algebra which appears in the $c\leq1$ non-critical strings. In the quantum case, we analyze the BRST cohomology to get the quantum free field expression of the algebra.
