Non-emptiness of Brill-Noether loci in M(2,K)

Let C be a smooth projective complex curve of genus g≥2g\geq2. We investigate the Brill-Noether locus consisting of stable bundles of rank 2 and canonical determinant having at least kk independent sections. Using the Hecke correpondence we construct a fundamental class, which determines the non-emptiness of this locus at least when CC is a Petri curve. We prove that in many expected cases the Brill-Noether locus is non-empty. For some values of kk the result is best possible.

Compactification of the Prym map for non cyclic triple coverings

In a previous paper, the authors proved that the Prym variety of any non-cyclic etale triple cover of a smooth curve of genus 2 is a Jacobian variety of dimension 2. This gives a map from the moduli space of such covers to the moduli space of Jacobian varieties of dimension 2. We extend this map to a proper map of a certain moduli space of admissible S3S_3-covers of genus 7 to the moduli space of principally polarized abelian surfaces. The main result is that this map is finite surjective of degree 10.

On the Hilbert scheme of a Prym variety

To any unramified double cover π:C~→Cπ:\tilde C \to C of projective irreducible and nonsingular curves one associates the Prym variety P=P(π)P = P(π). For CC nonhyperelliptic of genus g≥6g \geq 6 we consider the natural embedding C~⊂P\tilde C \subset P (defined up to translation) of C~\tilde C into PP and we study the local structure of the Hilbert scheme HilbPHilb^P of PP at the point [C~][\tilde C]. We show that this structure is related with the local geometry of the Prym map, or more precisely with the validity of the infinitesimal version of Torelli's theorem for Pryms at [π][π]

Curves of genus 2 and Desargues configurations

We study the moduli space M_D of Desargues configurations and how to define a holomorphic map from M_D to M^b_6 the moduli space of stable binary forms of degree 6. The construction of the map goes back to the greek mathematician C. Stephanos who published a paper about this in 1883, using classical geometric invariant theory. We put this in a contemporary context and give a new proof of the properties of the map.We also study degenerations.
