Equivalent formulations of optimal control problems with maximum cost and applications

We revisit the optimal control problem with maximum cost with the objective to provide different equivalent reformulations suitable to numerical methods. We propose two reformulations in terms of extended Mayer problems with constraint, and another one in terms of a differential inclusion with upper-semi continuous right member but without constraint. For this last one we also propose an approximation scheme of the optimal value from below. These approaches are illustrated and discussed on several examples.

About Dissipative and Pseudo Port-Hamiltonian Formulations of Irreversible Newtonian Compressible Flows

In this paper we consider the problem of obtaining a general port-Hamiltonian formulation of Newtonian fluids. We propose the port-Hamiltonian models to describe the energy flux of rotational three-dimensional isentropic and non-isentropic fluids, whose boundary flows and efforts can be used for control purposes or for power-preserving interconnection with other physical systems. In case of two-dimensional flows, we include the considerations about the operators associated with fluid vorticity, preserving the port-Hamiltonian structure of the models proposed.

Optimal feedback synthesis and minimal time function for the bioremediation of water resources with two patches

This paper studies the bioremediation, in minimal time, of a water resource or reservoir using a single continuous bioreactor. The bioreactor is connected to two pumps, at different locations in the reservoir, that pump polluted water and inject back sufficiently clean water with the same flow rate. This leads to a minimal-time optimal control problem where the control variables are related to the inflow rates of both pumps. We obtain a non-convex problem for which it is not possible to directly prove the existence of its solutions. We overcome this difficulty and fully solve the studied problem by applying Pontryagin's principle to the associated generalized control problem. We also obtain explicit bounds on its value function via Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman techniques.

Graphical Derivatives and Stability Analysis for Parameterized Equilibria with Conic Constraints

The paper concerns parameterized equilibria governed by generalized equations whose multivalued parts are modeled via regular normals to nonconvex conic constraints. Our main goal is to derive a precise pointwise second-order formula for calculating the graphical derivative of the solution maps to such generalized equations that involves Lagrange multipliers of the corresponding KKT systems and critical cone directions. Then we apply the obtained formula to characterizing a Lipschitzian stability notion for the solution maps that is known as isolated calmness.

On the current status of Modified Gravity

We revisit the cosmological viability of the Hu $\&$ Sawicki modified gravity scenario. The impact of such a modification on the different cosmological observables, including gravitational waves, is carefully described. The most recent cosmological data, as well as constraints on the relationship between the clustering parameter $σ_8$ and the current matter mass-energy density $Ω_m$ from cluster number counts and weak lensing tomography, are considered in our numerical calculations. The strongest bound we find is $|f_{R0}| < 3.7 \times 10^{-6}$ at $95\%$~CL. Forthcoming cluster surveys covering 10,000 deg$^2$ in the sky, with galaxy surface densities of $\mathcal{O}(10)$~arcmin$^{-2}$ could improve the precision in the $σ_8$-$Ω_m$ relationship, tightening the above constraint.
