Two-Loop Hexa-Box Integrals for Non-Planar Five-Point One-Mass Processes

We present the calculation of the three distinct non-planar hexa-box topologies for five-point one-mass processes. These three topologies are required to obtain the two-loop virtual QCD corrections for two-jet-associated W, Z or Higgs-boson production. Each topology is solved by obtaining a pure basis of master integrals and efficiently constructing the associated differential equation with numerical sampling and unitarity-cut techniques. We present compact expressions for the alphabet of these non-planar integrals, and discuss some properties of their symbol. Notably, we observe that the extended Steinmann relations are in general not satisfied. Finally, we solve the differential equations in terms of generalized power series and provide high-precision values in different regions of phase space which can be used as boundary conditions for subsequent evaluations.

Universality in the classical limit of massless gravitational scattering

We demonstrate the universality of the gravitational classical deflection angle of massless particles through O(G^3) by studying the high-energy limit of full two-loop four-graviton scattering amplitudes in pure Einstein gravity as well as N >= 4 supergravity. As a by-product, our first-principles calculation provides a direct confirmation of the massless deflection angle in Einstein gravity proposed long ago by Amati, Ciafaloni and Veneziano, and is inconsistent with a recently proposed alternative.

Di-vector Boson Production with Jets at the LHC

In this talk we present the first calculation of next-to-leading-order QCD corrections for the production of $W^+W^-$ pairs in association with three jets at the LHC. We show the observed improvement in the dependence of total and differential cross sections on the unphysical renormalization and factorization scales. We study the radiation pattern for configurations associated to vector-boson fusion and the impact that the QCD corrections have on them.

Two-loop Integrand Decomposition into Master Integrals and Surface Terms

Loop amplitudes are conveniently expressed in terms of master integrals whose coefficients carry the process dependent information. Similarly before integration, the loop integrands may be expressed as a linear combination of propagator products with universal numerator-tensors. Such a decomposition is an important input for the numerical unitarity approach, which constructs integrand coefficients from on-shell tree amplitudes. We present a new method to organise multi-loop integrands into a direct sum of terms that integrate to zero (surface terms) and remaining master integrands. This decomposition facilitates a general, numerical unitarity approach for multi-loop amplitudes circumventing analytic integral reduction. Vanishing integrals are well known as integration-by-parts identities. Our construction can be viewed as an explicit construction of a complete set of integration-by-parts identities excluding doubled propagators. Interestingly, a class of 'horizontal' identities is singled out which hold as well for altered propagator powers.

High multiplicity processes at NLO with BlackHat and Sherpa

In this contribution we review recent progress with fixed-order QCD predictions for the production of a vector boson in association with jets at hadron colliders, using the programs BlackHat and SHERPA. We review general features of next-to-leading-order (NLO) predictions for the production of a massive vector boson in association with four jets. We also discuss how precise descriptions of vector-boson production can be applied to the determination of backgrounds to new physics signals. Here we focus on data-driven backgrounds to a missing-energy-plus-jets search performed by CMS. Finally, we review recent progress in developing theoretical tools for high-multiplicity loop-computation within the BlackHat-library. In particular, we discuss methods for handling the color degrees of freedom in multi-jet predictions at NLO.

Colour Decompositions of Multi-quark One-loop QCD Amplitudes

We describe the decomposition of one-loop QCD amplitudes in terms of colour-ordered building blocks. We give new expressions for the coefficients of QCD colour structures in terms of ordered objects called primitive amplitudes, for processes with up to seven partons. These results are needed in computations of high-multiplicity scattering cross sections in next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD. We explain the origin of new relations between multi-quark primitive amplitudes which can be used to optimise efficiency of NLO computations. As a first application we compute the full-colour virtual contribution to the cross section for W+4-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider, and verify that it is very well approximated by keeping only the leading terms in an expansion around the formal limit of a large number of colours.

Susy Theories and QCD: Numerical Approaches

We review on-shell and unitarity methods and discuss their application to precision predictions for LHC physics. Being universal and numerically robust, these methods are straight-forward to automate for next-to-leading-order computations within Standard Model and beyond. Several state-of-the-art results including studies of W/Z+3-jet and W+4-jet production have explicitly demonstrated the effectiveness of the unitarity method for describing multi-parton scattering. Here we review central ideas needed to obtain efficient numerical implementations. This includes on-shell loop-level recursions, the unitarity method, color management and further refined tricks.

Generalized Unitarity and Six-Dimensional Helicity

We combine the unitarity method with the six-dimensional helicity formalism of Cheung and O'Connell to construct loop-level scattering amplitudes. As a first example, we construct dimensionally regularized QCD one-loop four-point amplitudes. As a nontrivial multiloop example, we confirm that the recently constructed four-loop four-point amplitude of N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, including nonplanar contributions, is valid for dimensions less than or equal to six. We comment on the connection of our approach to the recently discussed Higgs infrared regulator and on dual conformal properties in six dimensions.

Six-Point One-Loop N=8 Supergravity NMHV Amplitudes and their IR behaviour

We present compact formulas for the box coefficients of the six-point NMHV one-loop amplitudes in N=8 supergravity. We explicitly demonstrate that the corresponding box integral functions, with these coefficients, have the complete IR singularities expected of the one-loop amplitude. This is strong evidence for the conjecture that N=8 one-loop amplitudes may be expressed in terms of scalar box integral functions. This structure, although unexpected from a power counting viewpoint, is analogous to the structure of N=4 super-Yang-Mills amplitudes. The box-coefficients match the tree amplitude terms arising from recursion relations.
