Branching random tessellations with interaction: A thermodynamic view

A branching random tessellation (BRT) is a stochastic process that transforms a coarse initial tessellation of $\mathbb{R}^d$ into a finer tessellation by means of random cell divisions in continuous time. This concept generalises the so-called STIT tessellations, for which all cells split up independently of each other. Here, we allow the cells to interact, in that the division rule for each cell may depend on the structure of the surrounding tessellation. Moreover, we consider coloured tessellations, for which each cell is marked with an internal property, called its colour. Under a suitable condition, the cell interaction of a BRT can be specified by a measure kernel, the so-called division kernel, that determines the division rules of all cells and gives rise to a Gibbsian characterisation of BRTs. For translation invariant BRTs, we introduce an "inner" entropy density relative to a STIT tessellation. Together with an inner energy density for a given "moderate" division kernel, this leads to a variational principle for BRTs with this prescribed kernel, and further to an existence result for such BRTs.

Existence of Gibbsian point processes with geometry-dependent interactions

We establish the existence of stationary Gibbsian point processes for interactions that act on hyperedges between the points. For example, such interactions can depend on Delaunay edges or triangles, cliques of Voronoi cells or clusters of $k$-nearest neighbors. The classical case of pair interactions is also included. The basic tools are an entropy bound and stationarity.

Variational characterisation of Gibbs measures with Delaunay triangle interaction

This paper deals with stationary Gibbsian point processes on the plane with an interaction that depends on the tiles of the Delaunay triangulation of points via a bounded triangle potential. It is shown that the class of these Gibbs processes includes all minimisers of the associated free energy density and is therefore nonempty. Conversely, each such Gibbs process minimises the free energy density, provided the potential satisfies a weak long-range assumption.

Conditional Intensity and Gibbsianness of Determinantal Point Processes

The Papangelou intensities of determinantal (or fermion) point processes are investigated. These exhibit a monotonicity property expressing the repulsive nature of the interaction, and satisfy a bound implying stochastic domination by a Poisson point process. We also show that determinantal point processes satisfy the so-called condition $(Σ_λ)$ which is a general form of Gibbsianness. Under a continuity assumption, the Gibbsian conditional probabilities can be identified explicitly.
