Interpretation of normal-deformed bands in 167Lu

With the aim to get a general understanding of rotational bands in the deformed rare-earth region or in deformed nuclei in general, the observed normal-deformed rotational structures in $^{167}$Lu are interpreted within the unpaired and paired cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky formalisms, CNS and CNSB. Particular attention is devoted to the band crossings. For this nucleus with the Fermi surface high up in the $h_{11/2}$ shell, we conclude that except for the paired AB and BC crossings in configurations with an even and odd number of $i_{13/2}$ neutrons, respectively, the observed band crossings can be understood within the unpaired formalism. Especially, it means that above the AB and BC crossings, the evolution with spin is described as a gradual alignment of the spin vectors of the particles outside closed shells. Consequently, the configurations can be characterized by the number of particles occupying open $j$-shells or groups of $j$-shells. In the present study, we revise the interpretation of some experimental bands and also the nature of the crossings while some previous configuration assignments are confirmed.

Strange quark suppression and strange hadron production in pp collisions at RHIC and LHC

The parton and hadron cascade model PACIAE based on PYTHIA was utilized to systematically investigate the strange particle production in pp collisions at the RHIC and LHC energies. Taking the mechanism of reduction of the strange quark suppression into account the STAR and ALICE data of strange particle production in pp collisions are well reproduced. It turned out that the K/π ratio as a function of reaction energy in pp collisions shows slightly increasing from sqrt(s)=0.2 to 0.9 TeV and then turning to saturation.

Evidence for Shape Co-existence at medium spin in 76Rb

Four previously known rotational bands in 76Rb have been extended to moderate spins using the Gammasphere and Microball gamma ray and charged particle detector arrays and the 40Ca(40Ca,3pn) reaction at a beam energy of 165 MeV. The properties of two of the negative-parity bands can only readily be interpreted in terms of the highly successful Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model calculations if they have the same configuration in terms of the number of g9/2 particles, but they result from different nuclear shapes (one near-oblate and the other near-prolate). These data appear to constitute a unique example of shape co-existing structures at medium spins.

Parton rescattering effect on particle production in ultra-relativistic p+p collisions

The parton rescattering effect on the charged particle production in ultra-relativistic p+p collisions is studied by the parton and hadron cascade model, PACIAE, based on PYTHIA. We have calculated charged particle pseudorapidity density ($dN_{ch}/dη$) at mid-rapidity and the pseudorapidity distribution in inelastic and non-single diffractive p+p collisions at $\sqrt s$=200, 900, 5500, and 14000 GeV with the PYTHIA and PACIAE models. The calculated results of $\sqrt s$=900 GeV are well compared with the ALICE data. The calculated $dN_{ch}/dη$ as a function of center-of-mass energy well meets with the experimental data as well. Comparing the PYTHIA results (without parton rescattering) with the PACIAE results (with parton rescattering), it turned out that the parton rescattering effect plays an important role and this effect increases with increasing center-of-mass energy.
