Non-Markovian full counting statistics in quantum dot molecules

Full counting statistics of electron transport is a powerful diagnostic tool for probing the nature of quantum transport beyond what is obtainable from the average current or conductance measurement alone. In particular, the non-Markovian dynamics of quantum dot molecule plays an important role in the nonequilibrium electron tunneling processes. It is thus necessary to understand the non-Markovian full counting statistics in a quantum dot molecule. Here we study the non-Markovian full counting statistics in two typical quantum dot molecules, namely, serially coupled and side-coupled double quantum dots with high quantum coherence in a certain parameter regime. We demonstrate that the non-Markovian effect manifests itself through the quantum coherence of the quantum dot molecule system, and has a significant impact on the full counting statistics in the high quantum-coherent quantum dot molecule system, which depends on the coupling of the quantum dot molecule system with the source and drain electrodes. The results indicated that the influence of the non-Markovian effect on the full counting statistics of electron transport, which should be considered in a high quantum-coherent quantum dot molecule system, can provide a better understanding of electron transport through quantum dot molecules.

Negative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise in single-molecule magnet junctions

Molecular spintroinic device based on a single-molecule magnet is one of the ultimate goals of semiconductor nanofabrication technologies. It is thus necessary to understand the electron transport properties of a single-molecule magnet junction. Here we study the negative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise properties of electron transport through a single-molecule magnet weakly coupled to two electrodes with either one or both of them being ferromagnetic. We predict that the negative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise, which can be tuned by a gate voltage, depend sensitively on the spin polarization of the source and drain electrodes. In particular, the shot noise in the negative differential conductance region can be enhanced or decreased originating from the different formation mechanisms of negative differential conductance. The effective competition between fast and slow transport channels is responsible for the observed negative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise. In addition, we further discuss the skewness and kurtosis properties of transport current in the super-Poissonian shot noise regions. Our findings suggest a tunable negative differential conductance molecular device, and the predicted properties of high-order current cumulants are very interesting for a better understanding of electron transport through single-molecule magnet junctions.

Full counting statistics as a probe of quantum coherence in a side-coupled double quantum dot system

We study theoretically the full counting statistics of electron transport through side-coupled double quantum dot (QD) based on an efficient particle-number-resolved master equation. It is demonstrated that the high-order cumulants of transport current are more sensitive to the quantum coherence than the average current, which can be used to probe the quantum coherence of the considered double QD system. Especially, the quantum coherence plays a crucial role in determining whether the super-Poissonian noise occurs in the weak inter-dot hopping coupling regime depending on the corresponding dot-lead coupling, and the corresponding values of super-Poissonian noise can be relatively enhanced when considering the spins of conduction electrons. Moreover, this super-Poissonian noise bias range depends on the singly-occupied eigenstates of the system, which thus suggests a tunable super-Poissonian noise device. The occurrence-mechanism of super-Poissonian noise can be understood in terms of the interplay of quantum coherence and effective competition between fast-and-slow transport channels.

Intrinsic spin-relaxation induced negative tunnel magnetoresistance in a single-molecule magnet

We investigate theoretically the effects of intrinsic spin-relaxation on the spin-dependent transport through a single-molecule magnet (SMM), which is weakly coupled to ferromagnetic leads. The tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) is obtained by means of the rate-equation approach including not only the sequential but also the cotunneling processes. It is shown that the TMR is strongly suppressed by the fast spin-relaxation in the sequential region and can vary from a large positive to slight negative value in the cotunneling region. Moreover, with an external magnetic field along the easy-axis of SMM, a large negative TMR is found when the relaxation strength increases. Finally, in the high bias voltage limit the TMR for the negative bias is slightly larger than its characteristic value of the sequential region, however it can become negative for the positive bias caused by the fast spin-relaxation.

Effect of finite Coulomb interaction on full counting statistics of electronic transport through single-molecule magnet

We study the full counting statistics (FCS) in a single-molecule magnet (SMM) with finite Coulomb interaction $U$. For finite $U$ the FCS, differing from $U\rightarrow \infty $, shows a symmetric gate-voltage-dependence when the coupling strengths with two electrodes are interchanged, which can be observed experimentally just by reversing the bias-voltages. Moreover, we find that the effect of finite $U$ on shot noise depends on the internal level structure of the SMM and the coupling asymmetry of the SMM with two electrodes as well. When the coupling of the SMM with the incident-electrode is stronger than that with the outgoing-electrode, the super-Poissonian shot noise in the sequential tunneling regime appears under relatively small gate-voltage and relatively large finite $U$, and dose not for $U\rightarrow \infty $; while it occurs at relatively large gate-voltage for the opposite coupling case. The formation mechanism of super-Poissonian shot noise can be qualitatively attributed to the competition between fast and slow transport channels.

Effects of magnetic field and transverse anisotropy on full counting statistics in single-molecule magnet

We have theoretically studied the full counting statistics of electron transport through a single-molecule magnet (SMM) with an arbitrary angle between the applied magnetic field and the SMM's easy axis above the sequential tunneling threshold, since the angle $θ$ cannot be controlled in present-day SMM experiments. In the absence of the small transverse anisotropy, when the coupling of the SMM with the incident-electrode is stronger than that with the outgoing-electrode, i.e., $Γ_{L}/Γ_{R}\gg1$, the maximum peak of shot noise first increases and then decreases with increasing $θ$ from 0 to $0.5π$. In particular, the shot noise can reach up to super-Poissonian value from sub-Poissonian value when considering the small transverse anisotropy. For $Γ_{L}/Γ_{R}\ll1$, the maximum peaks of the shot noise and skewness can be reduced from a super-Poissonian to a sub-Poissonian value with increasing $θ$ from 0 to $0.5π$; the super-Poissonian behavior of the skewness is more sensitive to the small $θ$ than shot noise, which is suppressed when taking into account the small transverse anisotropy. These characteristics of shot noise can be qualitatively attributed to the competition between the fast and slow transport channels. The predictions regarding of the $θ$-dependence of high order current cumulants are very interesting for a better understanding electron transport through SMM, and will allow for experimental tests in the near future.
