A Lagrangian Approach to Weakly Coupled Hamilton-Jacobi Systems

We study a class of weakly coupled Hamilton-Jacobi systems with a specific aim to perform a qualitative analysis in the spirit of weak KAM theory. Our main achievement is the definition of a family of related action functionals containing the Lagrangians obtained by duality from the Hamiltonians of the system. We use them to characterize, by means of a suitable estimate, all the subsolutions of the system, and to explicitly represent some subsolutions enjoying an additional maximality property. A crucial step for our analysis is to put the problem in a suitable random frame. Only some basic knowledge of measure theory is required, and the presentation is accessible to readers without background in probability.

Large time average of reachable sets and Applications to Homogenization of interfaces moving with oscillatory spatio-temporal velocity

We study the averaging of fronts moving with positive oscillatory normal velocity, which is periodic in space and stationary ergodic in time. The problem can be reformulated as the homogenization of coercive level set Hamilton-Jacobi equations with spatio-temporal oscillations. To overcome the difficulties due to the oscillations in time and the sublinear growth of the Hamiltonian, we first study the long time averaged behavior of the associated reachable sets using geometric arguments. The results are new for higher than one dimensions even in the space-time periodic setting.

Stochastic homogenization of interfaces moving with changing sign velocity

We are interested in the averaged behavior of interfaces moving in stationary ergodic environments, with oscillatory normal velocity which changes sign. This problem can be reformulated, using level sets, as the homogenization of a Hamilton-Jacobi equation with a positively homogeneous non-coercive Hamiltonian. The periodic setting was earlier studied by Cardaliaguet, Lions and Souganidis (2009). Here we concentrate in the random media and show that the solutions of the oscillatory Hamilton-Jacobi equation converge in $L^\infty$-weak $*$ to a linear combination of the initial datum and the solutions of several initial value problems with deterministic effective Hamiltonian(s), determined by the properties of the random media.
