Polyakov loop in 2+1 flavor QCD from low to high temperatures

We study the free energy of a static quark in QCD with 2+1 flavors in a wide temperature region, 116 MeV $< T < $ 5814 MeV, using the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action. We analyze the transition region in detail, obtain the entropy of a static quark, show that it peaks at temperatures close to the chiral crossover temperature and also revisit the temperature dependence of the Polyakov loop susceptibilities using gradient flow. We discuss the implications of our findings for the deconfinement and chiral crossover phenomena at physical values of the quark masses. Finally a comparison of the lattice results at high temperatures with the weak-coupling calculations is presented.

Diagonal and off-diagonal quark number susceptibilities at high temperatures

We present continuum extrapolated lattice QCD results for up to fourth-order diagonal and off-diagonal quark number susceptibilities in the high temperature region of 300-700 MeV. Lattice QCD calculations are performed using 2+1 flavors of highly improved staggered quarks with nearly physical quark masses and at four different lattice spacings. Comparisons of our results with recent weak coupling perturbative calculations yield reasonably good agreements for the entire temperature range.

Renormalization of the Polyakov loop with gradient flow

We use the gradient flow for the renormalization of the Polyakov loop in various representations. Using 2+1 flavor QCD with highly improved staggered quarks and lattices with temporal extents of $N_τ=6$, $8$, $10$ and $12$ we calculate the renormalized Polyakov loop in many representations including fundamental, sextet, adjoint, decuplet, 15-plet, 24-plet and 27-plet. This approach allows for the calculations of the renormalized Polyakov loops over a large temperature range from $T=116$ MeV up to $T=815$ MeV, with small errors not only for the Polyakov loop in fundamental representation, but also for the Polyakov loops in higher representations. We compare our results with standard renormalization schemes and discuss the Casimir scaling of the Polyakov loops.

Distribution of Canonical Determinants in QCD

The distribution of canonical determinants in QCD is determined by means of chiral perturbation theory. For a non-zero quark charge the canonical determinants take complex values. In the dilute pion gas approximation, we compute all moments of the magnitude of the canonical determinants, as well as the first nonvanishing moments of the real and imaginary parts. The non-trivial cancellation between the real and the imaginary parts of the canonical determinants is derived and the signal to noise ratio is discussed. The analytical distributions are compared to lattice data. The average density of the magnitude of the canonical determinants is determined as well and is shown to be given by a variant of the log-normal distribution.
