Classical black hole scattering from a worldline quantum field theory

A precise link is derived between scalar-graviton S-matrix elements and expectation values of operators in a worldline quantum field theory (WQFT), both used to describe classical scattering of a pair of black holes. The link is formally provided by a worldline path integral representation of the graviton-dressed scalar propagator, which may be inserted into a traditional definition of the S-matrix in terms of time-ordered correlators. To calculate expectation values in the WQFT a new set of Feynman rules is introduced which treats the gravitational field $h_{μν}(x)$ and position $x_i^μ(τ_i)$ of each black hole on equal footing. Using these both the next-order classical gravitational radiation $\langle h^{μν}(k)\rangle$ (previously unknown) and deflection $Δp_i^μ$ from a binary black hole scattering event are obtained. The latter can also be obtained from the eikonal phase of a $2\to2$ scalar S-matrix, which we show to correspond to the free energy of the WQFT.

Infrared and transcendental structure of two-loop supersymmetric QCD amplitudes

Using a careful choice of infrared (IR) subtraction scheme, we demonstrate the cancellation of all terms with transcendental weights 0,1,2 from the finite part of the full-color two-loop four-gluon $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric QCD amplitude, with $N_f$ massless supersymmetric quarks. This generalizes the previously observed cancellation of weight-2 terms in the superconformal theory, where $N_f=2N_c$ for gauge group SU$(N_c)$. The subtraction scheme follows naturally both from general IR factorization principles and from an integrand-level analysis of divergences in this amplitude. The divergences are written in terms of scalar triangle integrals whose expressions are known to all orders in the dimensional regulator $ε=(4-D)/2$. We also present integrated expressions for the full-color two-loop four-point amplitudes with both matter and vectors on external legs in which lower-weight terms also cancel using an appropriate IR scheme. This provides us with values for the two-loop cusp, gluonic, and quark anomalous dimensions in $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric QCD, which are cross-checked between the three different amplitudes.

Local integrands for two-loop all-plus Yang-Mills amplitudes

We express the planar five- and six-gluon two-loop Yang-Mills amplitudes with all positive helicities in compact analytic form using D-dimensional local integrands that are free of spurious singularities. The integrand is fixed from on-shell tree amplitudes in six dimensions using D-dimensional generalised unitarity cuts. The resulting expressions are shown to have manifest infrared behaviour at the integrand level. We also find simple representations of the rational terms obtained after integration in 4-2epsilon dimensions.

A Complete Two-Loop, Five-Gluon Helicity Amplitude in Yang-Mills Theory

We compute the integrand of the full-colour, two-loop, five-gluon scattering amplitude in pure Yang-Mills theory with all helicities positive, using generalized unitarity cuts. Tree-level BCJ relations, satisfied by amplitudes appearing in the cuts, allow us to deduce all the necessary non-planar information for the full-colour amplitude from known planar data. We present our result in terms of irreducible numerators, with colour factors derived from the multi-peripheral colour decomposition. Finally, the leading soft divergences are checked to reproduce the expected infrared behaviour.

Overcoming Obstacles to Colour-Kinematics Duality at Two Loops

The discovery of colour-kinematics duality has allowed great progress in our understanding of the UV structure of gravity. However, it has proven difficult to find numerators which satisfy colour-kinematics duality in certain cases. We discuss obstacles to building a set of such numerators in the context of the five-gluon amplitude with all helicities positive at two loops. We are able to overcome the obstacles by adding more loop momentum to our numerator to accommodate tension between the values of certain cuts and the symmetries of certain diagrams. At the same time, we maintain control over the size of our ansatz by identifying a highly constraining but desirable symmetry property of our master numerator. The resulting numerators have twelve powers of loop momenta rather than the seven one would expect from the Feynman rules.
