Confronting a set of Skyrme and $χ_{EFT}$ predictions for the crust of neutron stars

With the improved accuracy of neutron star observational data, it is necessary to derive new equation of state where the crust and the core are consistently calculated within a unified approach. For this purpose we describe non-uniform matter in the crust of neutron stars employing a compressible liquid-drop model, where the bulk and the neutron fluid terms are given from the same model as the one describing uniform matter present in the core. We then generate a set of fifteen unified equations of state for cold catalyzed neutron stars built on realistic modelings of the nuclear interaction, which belongs to two main groups: the first one derives from the phenomenological Skyrme interaction and the second one from $χ_{EFT}$ Hamiltonians. The confrontation of these model predictions allows us to investigate the model dependence for the crust properties, and in particular the effect of neutron matter at low density. The new set of unified equations of state is available at the CompOSE repository.

Generalized Rastall's gravity and its effects on compact objects

We present a generalization of Rastall's gravity in which the conservation law of the energy-momentum tensor is altered, and as a result, the trace of the energy-momentum tensor is taken into account together with the Ricci scalar in the expression for the covariant derivative. Afterwards, we obtain the field equations in this theory and solve them by considering a spherically symmetric space-time. We show that the external solution has two possible classes of solutions with spherical symmetry in the vacuum in generalized Rastall's gravity, and we analyse one of them explicitly. The generalization, in contrast to constant value $k=8πG$ in general relativity, has a gravitational parameter $k$ that depends on the Rastall constant $α$. As an application, we perform a careful analysis of the effects of the theory on neutron stars using realistic equations of state (EoS) as input. Our results show that important differences on the profile of neutron stars are obtained within two representatives EoS.

Preliminary EoS for core-collapse supernova simulations with the QMC model

In this work we present the preliminary results of a complete equation of state (EoS) for core-collapse supernova simulations. We treat uniform matter made of nucleons using the the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. We show a table with a variety of thermodynamic quantities, which covers the proton fraction range $Y_{p}=0-0.65$ with the linear grid spacing $ ΔY_{p}=0.01$ ($66$ points) and the density range $ρ_{B}=10^{14}-10^{16}$g.cm$^{-3}$ with the logarithmic grid spacing $Δlog_{10}(ρ_{B}/[$g.cm$^{-3}])=0.1 $ ($21$ points). This preliminary study is performed at zero temperature and our results are compared with the widely used EoS already available in the literature.

Fermion field as inflaton, dark energy and dark matter

The search for constituents that can explain the periods of accelerating expansion of the Universe is a fundamental topic in cosmology. In this context, we investigate how fermionic fields minimally and non-minimally coupled with the gravitational field may be responsible for accelerated regimes during the evolution of the Universe. The forms of the potential and coupling of the model are determined through the technique of the Noether symmetry for two cases. The first case comprises a Universe filled only with the fermion field. Cosmological solutions are straightforwardly obtained for this case and an exponential inflation mediated by the fermion field is possible with a non-minimal coupling. The second case takes account of the contributions of radiation and baryonic matter in the presence of the fermion field. In this case the fermion field plays the role of dark energy and dark matter, and when a non-minimal coupling is allowed, it mediates a power-law inflation.
