On $2$-Selmer groups and quadratic twists of elliptic curves

Let $K$ be a number field and $E/K$ be an elliptic curve with no $2$-torsion points. In the present article we give lower and upper bounds for the $2$-Selmer rank of $E$ in terms of the $2$-torsion of a narrow class group of a certain cubic extension of $K$ attached to $E$. As an application, we prove (under mild hypotheses) that a positive proportion of prime conductor quadratic twists of $E$ have the same $2$-Selmer group.

Shimura correspondence for level $p^2$ and the central values of $L$-series II

Given a Hecke eigenform $f$ of weight $2$ and square-free level $N$, by the work of Kohnen, there is a unique weight $3/2$ modular form of level $4N$ mapping to $f$ under the Shimura correspondence. Furthermore, by the work of Waldspurger the Fourier coefficients of such a form are related to the quadratic twists of the form $f$. Gross gave a construction of the half integral weight form when $N$ is prime, and such construction was later generalized to square-free levels. However, in the non-square free case, the situation is more complicated since the natural construction is vacuous. The problem being that there are too many special points so that there is cancellation while trying to encode the information as a linear combination of theta series. In this paper, we concentrate in the case of level $p^2$, for $p>2$ a prime number, and show how the set of special points can be split into subsets (indexed by bilateral ideals for an order of reduced discriminant $p^2$) which gives two weight $3/2$ modular forms mapping to $f$ under the Shimura correspondence. Moreover, the splitting has a geometric interpretation which allows to prove that the forms are indeed a linear combination of theta series associated to ternary quadratic forms. Once such interpretation is given, we extend the method of Gross-Zagier to the case where the level and the discriminant are not prime to each other to prove a Gross-type formula in this situation.

Explicit computations of Siegel modular forms of degree two

Unlike classical modular forms, there is currently no general way to implement the computation of Siegel modular forms of arbitrary weight, level and character, even in degree two. There is however, a way to do it in a unified way. After providing a survey of known computations we describe the implementation of a class modeling Siegel modular forms of degree two in Sage. In particular, we describe algorithms to compute a variety of rings of Siegel modular forms, many of which are implemented in our class. A wide variety of Siegel modular forms (e.g., both vector- and scalar-valued) can be modeled via this class and we unify these via a construct we call a formal Siegel modular form. We define this notion and discuss it in detail.

Formulas for central critical values of twisted L-functions attached to paramodular forms

In the 1980s Böcherer formulated a conjecture relating the central values of the imaginary quadratic twists of the spin L-function attached to a Siegel modular form $F$ to the Fourier coefficients of $F$. This conjecture has been proved when $F$ is a lift. More recently, we formulated an analogous conjecture for paramodular forms $F$ of prime level, even weight and in the plus-space. In this paper, we examine generalizations of this conjecture. In particular, our new formulations relax the conditions on $F$ and allow for twists by real characters. Moreover, these formulation are more explicit than the earlier version. We prove the conjecture in the case of lifts and provide numerical evidence in the case of nonlifts.

A Böcherer-Type Conjecture for Paramodular Forms

In the 1980s Böcherer formulated a conjecture relating the central value of the quadratic twists of the spinor L-function attached to a Siegel modular form F to the coefficients of F . He proved the conjecture when F is a Saito-Kurokawa lift. Later Kohnen and Kuss gave numerical evidence for the conjecture in the case when F is a rational eigenform that is not a Saito-Kurokawa lift. In this paper we develop a conjecture relating the central value of the quadratic twists of the spinor L-function attached to a paramodular form and the coefficients of the form. We prove the conjecture in the case when the form is a Gritsenko lift and provide numerical evidence when it is not a lift.
