Nonautonomous Linear Systems: Exponential Dichotomy and its Applications

The first purpose of this work is to provide a friendly introduction to the theory of nonautonomous linear systems of ordinary differential equations, the property of exponential dichotomy and its corresponding spectral theory. The second purpose of this work is disseminate the linearization results carried out by the authors in a nonautonomous framework. The actual structure of this work is a consequence of several elective courses (2014, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2023) carried out by the authors for undergraduate and graduated students at the Department of Mathematics of the Universidad de Chile. The monography assumes a good knowledge of multivariate calculus, linear algebra and ordinary differential equations.

Topological Equivalence of nonautonomous difference equations with a family of dichotomies on the half line

A linear system of difference equations and a nonlinear perturbation are considered, we obtain sufficient conditions to ensure the topological equivalence between them, namely, the linear part satisfies a property of dichotomy on the positive half--line while the nonlinearity has some boundedness and Lipschitzness conditions. As a consequence, we study the asymptotical stability and its preservation by topological equivalence.

Almost reducibility of linear difference systems from a spectral point of view

We prove that, under some conditions, a linear nonautonomous difference system is Bylov's almost reducible to a diagonal one whose terms are contained in the Sacker and Sell spectrum of the original system. We also provide an example of the concept of diagonally significant system, recently introduced by Pötzche. This example plays an essential role in the demonstration of our results.

A Grobman-Hartman theorem for a differential equation with piecewise constant generalized argument

We obtain sufficient conditions ensuring the existence of a uniformly continuous and Hölder continuous homeomorphism between the solutions of a linear system of differential equations with piecewise constant argument of generalized type and the solutions of the quasilinear corresponding system. We use a definition (recently introduced by M. Akhmet) of exponential dichotomy for those systems combined with technical assumptions on the nonlinear part. Our result generalizes a previous work of G. Papaschinopoulos.

Differentiability of Palmer's linearization Theorem and converse result for density functions

We study differentiability properties in a particular case of the Palmer's linearization Theorem, which states the existence of an homeomorphism $H$ between the solutions of a linear ODE system having exponential dichotomy and a quasilinear system. Indeed, if the linear system is uniformly asymptotically stable, sufficient conditions ensuring that $H$ is a $C^{2}$ preserving orientation diffeomorphism are given. As an application, we generalize a converse result of density functions for a nonlinear system in the nonautonomous case.

A pulse fishery model with closures as function of the catch: Conditions for sustainability

We present a model of single species fishery which alternates closed seasons with pulse captures. The novelty is that the length of a closed season is determined by the stock size of the last capture. The process is described by a new type of impulsive differential equations recently introduced. The main result is a fishing effort threshold which determines either the sustainability of the fishery or the extinction of the resource.
