Complex potentials and holomorphic differential equations

A complex potential is a holomorphic function $Ω:\mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}$ whose real and imaginary parts generate a pair of orthogonal foliations, representing the equipotential lines and the streamlines of $\dot{z} = \overline{Ω'(z)}$. In this work, we generalize the concept of potential to the broader class of dynamical systems of the form $\dot{z} = f(z)$, with $f:\mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}$ holomorphic. The resulting potential induces a rectification mapping providing a natural framework for the topological classification of phase portraits of planar polynomial vector fields. The existence of complex potentials serves as a powerful tool in addressing fundamental problems, such as the establishment of bounds for the number of limit cycles in piecewise-smooth systems, and the local configuration of curvature lines around umbilic points, among others.

Riemannian Geometry of $G_2$-type Real Flag Manifolds

In this paper, we investigate homogeneous Riemannian geometry on real flag manifolds of the split real form of $\mathfrak{g}_2$. We characterize the metrics that are invariant under the action of a maximal compact subgroup of $G_2.$ Our exploration encompasses the analysis of g.o. metrics and equigeodesics on the $\mathfrak{g}_2$-type flag manifolds. Additionally, we explore the Ricci flow for the case where the isotropy representation has no equivalent summands, employing techniques from the qualitative theory of dynamical systems.

On limit cycles in regularized Filippov systems bifurcating from homoclinic-like connections to regular-tangential singularities

In this paper, we are concerned about smoothing of Filippov systems around homoclinic-like connections to regular-tangential singularities. We provide conditions to guarantee the existence of limit cycles bifurcating from such connections. Additional conditions are also provided to ensured the stability and uniqueness of such limit cycles. All the proofs are based on the construction of the first return map of the regularized Filippov system around homoclinic-like connections. Such a map is obtained by using a recent characterization of the local behaviour of the regularized Filippov system around regular-tangential singularities. Fixed point theorems and Poincaré-Bendixson arguments are also employed.

Piecewise Smooth Holomorphic Systems

The normal forms associated with holomorphic systems are well known in the literature. In this paper we are concerned about studying the piecewise smooth holomorphic systems (PWHS). Specifically, we classify the possible phase portraits of these systems from the known normal forms and the typical singularities of PWHS. Also, we are interested in understanding how the trajectories of the regularized system associated with the PWHS transits through the region of regularization. In addition, we know that holomorphic systems have no limit cycles, but piecewise smooth holomorphic systems do, so we provide conditions to ensure the existence of limit cycles of these systems. Additional conditions are provided to guarantee the stability and uniqueness of such limit cycles. Finally, we give some families of PWHS that have homoclinic orbits.

Slow-fast normal forms arising from piecewise smooth vector fields

We studied piecewise smooth differential systems of the form $$\dot{z} = Z(z) = \dfrac{1 + \operatorname{sgn}(F)}{2}X(z) + \dfrac{1 - \operatorname{sgn}(F)}{2}Y(z),$$ where $F: \mathbb{R}^{n}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a smooth map having 0 as a regular value. We consider linear regularizations of the vector field $Z$ given by $$\dot{z}= Z_{\varepsilon}(z) = \dfrac{1 + φ(F/\varepsilon)}{2}X(z) +\dfrac{1 - φ(F /\varepsilon)}{2}Y(z),$$where $φ$ is a transition function (not necessarily monotonic) and nonlinear regularizations of the vector field $Z$ whose transition function is monotonic. It is a well-known fact that the regularized system is a slow-fast system. The main contribution of this paper is the study of typical singularities of slow-fast systems that arise from (linear or nonlinear) regularizations. We developed an algorithm to construct suitable transition functions, and we apply these ideas in order to create slow-fast singularities from normal forms of piecewise smooth vector fields. We present examples of transition functions that, after regularization of a PSVF normal form, generate normally hyperbolic, fold, transcritical, and pitchfork singularities.
