CP-odd correlations using jet momenta from tt_bar events at the Tevatron

We discuss T-odd correlations between jet and lepton momenta in tt_bar events at the Tevatron that can be used to search for CP violation. We identify correlations suitable for the lepton plus jets and purely hadronic top-quark pair decay channels. As an example of CP violation we consider the top-quark anomalous couplings, including its chromo-electric dipole moment, and we estimate the limits that can be placed at the Tevatron.

Flavor changing Z' couplings at the LHC

Models with a non-universal Z' exhibit in general flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) at tree-level. When the Z' couplings favor the third generation, flavor changing transitions of the form Z'tc and Z'tu could be large enough to be observable at the LHC. In this paper we explore this possibility using the associated production of a single top-quark with the Z' and find that integrated luminosities of a few hundred fb$^{-1}$ are necessary to probe the interesting region of parameter space.

Probing Intrinsic Charm with Semileptonic B Decays

We discuss semileptonic B decays of the form B -> J/Psi e nu X as possible probes of intrinsic charm. We calculate the leading order perturbative contribution to the process B- -> J/Psi e- nu_e X and find it to be unobservably small, with a branching ratio ~ 10^-10. We propose a modified spectator model to estimate the intrinsic charm contribution and find that it can be significantly larger, with a branching ratio for B -> (c cbar) e- nu_e X as large as 5 X 10^-7. We show that the process could be observed at these levels by CDF assuming a Run II integrated luminosity of 15 fb^-1, making this a useful reaction to probe the idea of intrinsic charm.

The $Z \to b \bar{b}$ Decay Asymmetry and Left-Right Models

It has been pointed out recently by Chanowitz that the $Z \to b\bar{b}$ decay asymmetry poses a problem for the standard model whether it is genuine or not [Chanowitz:2001bv]. If this conflict is interpreted as new physics in the b-quark couplings, it suggests a rather large right handed coupling of the b-quark to the Z-boson. We show that it is possible to accommodate this result in left-right models that single out the third generation.

Can the Lambda pi scattering phase shifts be large?

Motivated by the presence of nearby thresholds in other baryon-meson channels with I=1 and S=-1, we investigate whether the Lambda pi scattering phase shifts at a center-of-mass energy equal to the Xi mass could be larger than suggested by lowest-order chiral perturbation theory. Within a coupled-channel K-matrix approach, we find that the S-wave phase shift could be as large as -7 degrees.

CP Violating Anomalous Couplings at a 500 GeV e+ e- Linear Collider

We study the sensitivity of a 500 GeV $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider to $CP$ violating anomalous couplings. We find that with 50~fb$^{-1}$, and taking only one non-zero coupling at a time, the process $e^+e^-\to W^+ W^-$ can be used to place the 95% confidence level bounds $|\tildeκ_γ|\leq0.1$, $|\tildeκ_Z|\leq 0.1$ and $|g_4^Z|\leq 0.1$ from CP even observables. By studying certain distributions in the process $e^+e^-\to μ^+μ^-ν\barν$ one of the bounds can be improved to $|g_4^Z| \leq 0.06$. This process also allows the construction of a CP odd observable which can be used to place bounds on CP violating new physics. At the 95% confidence level we find $|\tildeκ_γ|\leq 0.3$, $|\tildeκ_Z|\leq 0.2$ and a much weaker bound for $|g_4^Z|$.

CP Violation in $Wγ$ and $Zγ$ Production

We study the capability of a $2 TeV$ $p\overline{p}$ collider with an integrated luminosity of $10 fb^{-1}$ to study CP violation in the processes $p \bar{p} \ra W^\pm γ$ and $p \bar{p} \ra Z γ$. We assume the existence of new CP violating interactions beyond the standard model which we describe with an effective Lagrangian. We find that the study of CP-odd observables would allow this machine to place bounds on CP violating anomalous couplings similar to the bounds that the same machine can place on $\cp$ conserving anomalous couplings. For example it could place the bound $|\tildeκ_γ|<0.1$ at the 95% confidence level.

Looking for CP Violation in W Production and Decay

We describe CP violating observables in resonant $W^\pm$ and $W^\pm$ plus one jet production at the Tevatron. We present simple examples of CP violating effective operators, consistent with the symmetries of the Standard Model, which would give rise to these observables. We find that CP violating effects coming from new physics at the $TeV$ scale could in principle be observable at the Tevatron with $10^6$ $W^\pm$ decays.
