MOND's acceleration scale as a fundamental quantity

Some quantum-cosmic scaling relations indicate that the MOND acceleration parameter a_0 could be a fundamental quantity ruling the self-gravitating structures, ranging from stars and globular clusters up to superclusters of galaxies and the whole observed universe. We discuss such coincidence relations starting from the Dirac quantization condition ruling the masses of primordial black holes.

Primordial black holes, astrophysical systems and the Eddington-Weinberg relation

Starting from a quantization relation for primordial black holes, it is shown that quantum fluctuations can play a fundamental role in determining the effective scales of self-gravitating astrophysical systems. Furthermore the Eddington-Weinberg relation between the current scale of the observed universe to the Planck constant (the standard action unit) is naturally derived. Finally, such an approach allows to recover the current value of the cosmological constant.

Astrophysical structures from primordial quantum black holes

The characteristic sizes of astrophysical structures, up to the whole observed Universe, can be recovered, in principle, assuming that gravity is the overall interaction assembling systems starting from microscopic scales, whose order of magnitude is ruled by the Planck length and the related Compton wavelength. This result agrees with the absence of screening mechanisms for the gravitational interaction and could be connected to the presence of Yukawa corrections in the Newtonian potential which introduce typical interaction lengths. This result directly comes out from quantization of primordial black holes and then characteristic interaction lengths directly emerge from quantum field theory.

A conformal field theory description of magnetic flux fractionalization in Josephson junction ladders

We show how the recently proposed effective theory for a Quantum Hall system at "paired states" filling v=1 (Mod. Phys. Lett. A 15 (2000) 1679; Nucl. Phys. B641 (2002) 547), the twisted model (TM), well adapts to describe the phenomenology of Josephson Junction ladders (JJL) in the presence of defects. In particular it is shown how naturally the phenomenon of flux fractionalization takes place in such a description and its relation with the discrete symmetries present in the TM. Furthermore we focus on closed geometries, which enable us to analyze the topological properties of the ground state of the system in relation to the presence of half flux quanta.

Twisted CFT and bilayer Quantum Hall systems

We identify the impurity interactions of the recently proposed CFT description of a bilayer Quantum Hall system at filling nu =m/(pm+2) in Mod. Phys. Lett. A 15 (2000) 1679. Such a CFT is obtained by m-reduction on the one layer system, with a resulting pairing symmetry and presence of quasi-holes. For the m=2 case boundary terms are shown to describe an impurity interaction which allows for a localized tunnel of the Kondo problem type. The presence of an anomalous fixed point is evidenced at finite coupling which is unstable with respect to unbalance and flows to a vacuum state with no quasi-holes.

FQHE and Jain's approach on the torus

By using the explicit knowledge of the lowest energy single particle wave functions in the presence of an {\it arbitrary} magnetic field, we extend to the case of a torus Jain's idea of looking at the FQHE as a manifestation of an integer effect for {\it composite fermions}. We show that this can be realized thanks to a redefinition of the vacuum state that is explicitly collective in nature. We also discuss the relationship of this approach with the hierarchical scheme and with the characterization of the Hall states in terms of $W_{1+\infty}$ algebras and 2D conformal field theories.
