Connes distance function on fuzzy sphere and the connection between geometry and statistics

An algorithm to compute Connes spectral distance, adaptable to the Hilbert-Schmidt operatorial formulation of non-commutative quantum mechanics, was developed earlier by introducing the appropriate spectral triple and used to compute infinitesimal distances in the Moyal plane, revealing a deep connection between geometry and statistics. In this paper, using the same algorithm, the Connes spectral distance has been calculated in the Hilbert-Schmidt operatorial formulation for the fuzzy sphere whose spatial coordinates satisfy the $su(2)$ algebra. This has been computed for both the discrete, as well as for the Perelemov's $SU(2)$ coherent state. Here also, we get a connection between geometry and statistics which is shown by computing the infinitesimal distance between mixed states on the quantum Hilbert space of a particular fuzzy sphere, indexed by $n\in\mathbb{Z}/2$.

Non-commutativity from exact renormalization group dualities

Here we demonstrate, firstly, the construction of dualities using the exact renormalization group approach and, secondly, that spatial non-commutativity can emerge as such a duality. This is done in a simple quantum mechanical setting that establishes an exact duality between the commutative and non-commutative quantum Hall systems with harmonic interactions. It is also demonstrated that this link can be understood as a blocking (coarse graining) transformation in time that relates commutative and non-commutative degrees of freedom.

Path integral action and Chern-Simons quantum mechanics in noncommutative plane

In this paper, the connection between the path integral representation of propagators in the coherent state basis with additional degrees of freedom \cite{rohwer} and the one without any such degrees of freedom \cite{sgfgs} is established. We further demonstrate that the path integral formalism developed in the noncommutative plane using the coherent state basis leads to a quantum mechanics involving a Chern-Simons term in momentum which is of noncommutative origin. The origin of this term from the Bopp-shift point of view is also investigated. A relativistic generalization of the action derived from the path integral framework is then proposed. Finally, we construct a map from the commutative quantum Hall system to a particle in a noncommutative plane moving in a magnetic field. The value of the noncommutative parameter from this map is then computed and is found to agree with previous results.

Path integral action of a particle in a magnetic field in the noncommutative plane and the Aharonov-Bohm effect

The formulation of noncommutative quantum mechanics as a quantum system represented in the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators is used to systematically derive, using the standard time slicing procedure, the path integral action for a particle moving in the noncommutative plane and in the presence of a magnetic field and an arbitrary potential. Using this action, the equation of motion and the ground state energy for the partcle are obtained explicitly. The Aharonov-Bohm phase is derived using a variety of methods and several dualities between this system and other commutative and noncommutative systems are demonstrated. Finally, the equivalence of the path integral formulation with the noncommutative Schrödinger equation is also established.

A unifying perspective on the Moyal and Voros products and their physical meanings

The Moyal and Voros formulations of non-commutative quantum field theory has been a point of controversy in the recent past. Here we address this issue in the context of non-commutative non-relativistic quantum mechanics. In particular we show that the two formulations simply correspond to two different representations associated with two different choices of basis on the quantum Hilbert space. From a mathematical perspective the two formulations are therefore completely equivalent, but we also argue that only the Voros formulaton admits a consistent physical interpretation. These considerations are elucidated by considering the free particle transition amplitude in the two representations.

Non-commutative Quantum Mechanics in Three Dimensions and Rotational Symmetry

We generalize the formulation of non-commutative quantum mechanics to three dimensional non-commutative space. Particular attention is paid to the identification of the quantum Hilbert space in which the physical states of the system are to be represented, the construction of the representation of the rotation group on this space, the deformation of the Leibnitz rule accompanying this representation and the implied necessity of deforming the co-product to restore the rotation symmetry automorphism. This also implies the breaking of rotational invariance on the level of the Schroedinger action and equation as well as the Hamiltonian, even for rotational invariant potentials. For rotational invariant potentials the symmetry breaking results purely from the deformation in the sense that the commutator of the Hamiltonian and angular momentum is proportional to the deformation.

Path integral action of a particle in the non commutative plane

Non commutative quantum mechanics can be viewed as a quantum system represented in the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators acting on non commutative configuration space. Taking this as departure point, we formulate a coherent state approach to the path integral representation of the transition amplitude. From this we derive an action for a particle moving in the non commutative plane and in the presence of an arbitrary potential. We find that this action is non local in time. However, this non locality can be removed by introducing an auxilary field, which leads to a second class constrained system that yields the non commutative Heisenberg algebra upon quantization. Using this action the propagator of the free particle and harmonic oscillator are computed explicitly. For the harmonic oscillator this action yields the frequencies already obtained by other means in the literature.
