Differential transmutations

Inspired by Gromov's partial differential relations, we introduce a notion of differential transmutation, which allows to transfer some local properties of solutions of a PDE to solutions of another PDE, in particular local solvability, hypoellipticity, weak and strong unique continuation properties and the Runge property. The latest refers to the possibility to approximate some given local solutions by a global solution, with point force controls in preassigned positions in the holes of the space domain. As examples we prove that 2D Lamé-Navier system and the $3$D steady Stokes system, can be obtained as differential transmutations of appropriate tensorizations of the Laplace operator.

Remote trajectory tracking of rigid bodies immersed in a 2D perfect incompressible fluid

We consider the motion of several rigid bodies immersed in a two-dimensional incompressible perfect fluid. The motion of the rigid bodies is given by the Newton laws with forces due to the fluid pressure and the fluid motion is described by the incompressible Euler equations. Our analysis covers the case where the circulations of the fluid velocity around the bodies are nonzero and where the fluid vorticity is bounded. The whole system occupies a bounded simply connected domain with an external fixed boundary which is impermeable except on an open non-empty part where one allows some fluid to go in and out the domain by controlling the normal velocity and the entering vorticity. We prove that it is possible to exactly achieve any non-colliding smooth motion of the rigid bodies by the remote action of a controlled normal velocity on the outer boundary which takes the form of state-feedback, with zero entering vorticity. This extends the result of (Glass, O., Kolumb{á}n, J. J., Sueur, F. (2017). External boundary control of the motion of a rigid body immersed in a perfect two-dimensional fluid. Analysis \& PDE) where the exact controllability of a single rigid body immersed in a 2D irrotational perfect incompressible fluid from an initial position and velocity to a final position and velocity was investigated. The proof relies on a nonlinear method to solve linear perturbations of nonlinear equations associated with a quadratic operator having a regular non-trivial zero. Here this method is applied to a quadratic equation satisfied by a class of boundary controls, which is obtained by extending the reformulation of the Newton equations performed in the uncontrolled case in (Glass, O., Lacave, C., Munnier, A., Sueur, F. (2019). Dynamics of rigid bodies in a two dimensional incompressible perfect fluid. Journal of Differential Equations, 267(6), 3561-3577) to the case where a control acts on the external boundary.

External boundary control of the motion of a rigid body immersed in a perfect two-dimensional fluid

We consider the motion of a rigid body due to the pressure of a surrounded two-dimensional irrotational perfect incompressible fluid, the whole system being confined in a bounded domain with an impermeable condition on a part of the external boundary. Thanks to an impulsive control strategy we prove that there exists an appropriate boundary condition on the remaining part of the external boundary (allowing some fluid going in and out the domain) such that the immersed rigid body is driven from some given initial position and velocity to some final position and velocity in a given positive time, without touching the external boundary. The controlled part of the external boundary is assumed to have a nonvoid interior and the final position is assumed to be in the same connected component of the set of possible positions as the initial position.

On the motion of a small light body immersed in a two dimensional incompressible perfect fluid with vorticity

In this paper we consider the motion of a rigid body immersed in a two dimensional unbounded incompressible perfect fluid with vorticity. We prove that when the body shrinks to a massless pointwise particle with fixed circulation, the "fluid+rigid body" system converges to the vortex-wave system introduced by Marchioro and Pulvirenti in [11]. This extends both the paper [2] where the case of a solid tending to a massive pointwise particle was tackled and the paper [3] where the massless case was considered but in a bounded cavity filled with an irrotational fluid.

On the weak solutions to the Maxwell-Landau-Lifshitz equations and to the Hall-Magneto-Hydrodynamic equations

In this paper we deal with weak solutions to the Maxwell-Landau-Lifshitz equations and to the Hall-Magneto-Hydrodynamic equations. First we prove that these solutions satisfy some weak-strong uniqueness property. Then we investigate the validity of energy identities. In particular we give a sufficient condition on the regularity of weak solutions to rule out anomalous dissipation. In the case of the Hall-Magneto-Hydrodynamic equations we also give a sufficient condition to guarantee the magneto-helicity identity. Our conditions correspond to the same heuristic scaling as the one introduced by Onsager in hydrodynamic theory. Finally we examine the sign, locally, of the anomalous dissipations of weak solutions obtained by some natural approximation processes.

Weak vorticity formulation for the incompressible Euler equations in domains with boundary

In this article we examine the interaction of incompressible 2D flows with compact material boundaries. Our focus is the dynamic behavior of the circulation of velocity around boundary components and the possible exchange between flow vorticity and boundary circulation in flows with vortex sheet initial data We begin by showing that the velocity can be uniquely reconstructed from the vorticity and boundary component circulations, which allows to recast 2D Euler evolution using vorticity and the circulations as dynamic variables. The weak form of this vortex dynamics formulation of the equations is called the weak vorticity formulation. The main result in this article is the equivalence between the weak velocity and weak vorticity formulations, without sign assumptions. Next, we focus on weak solutions obtained by mollifying initial data and passing to the limit, with the portion of vorticity singular with respect to the Lebesgue measure assumed to be nonnegative. For these solutions we prove that the circulations around each boundary component cannot be smaller than the initial data circulation, so that nonnegative vorticity may be absorbed by the boundary, but not produced by the boundary. In addition, we prove that if the weak solution conserves circulation at the boundary components it is a boundary coupled weak solution, a stronger version of the weak vorticity formulation. We prove existence of a weak solution which conserves circulation at the boundary components if the initial vorticity is integrable. In addition, we discuss the definition of the mechanical force which the flow exerts on material boundary components and its relation with conservation of circulation. Finally, we describe the corresponding results for a bounded domain with holes, and the adaptations required in the proofs.

A Kato type Theorem for the inviscid limit of the Navier-Stokes equations with a moving rigid body

The issue of the inviscid limit for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations when a no-slip condition is prescribed on the boundary is a famous open problem. A result by Tosio Kato says that convergence to the Euler equations holds true in the energy space if and only if the energy dissipation rate of the viscous flow in a boundary layer of width proportional to the viscosity vanishes. Of course, if one considers the motion of a solid body in an incompressible fluid, with a no-slip condition at the interface, the issue of the inviscid limit is as least as difficult. However it is not clear if the additional difficulties linked to the body's dynamic make this issue more difficult or not. In this paper we consider the motion of a rigid body in an incompressible fluid occupying the complementary set in the space and we prove that a Kato type condition implies the convergence of the fluid velocity and of the body velocity as well, what seems to indicate that an answer in the case of a fixed boundary could also bring an answer to the case where there is a moving body in the fluid.

Boundary layers interactions in the plane parallel incompressible flows

We study the inviscid limit problem of the incompressible flows in the presence of both impermeable regular boundaries and a hypersurface transversal to the boundary across which the inviscid flow has a discontinuity jump. In the former case, boundary layers have been introduced by Prandtl as correctors near the boundary between the inviscid and viscous flows. In the latter case, the viscosity smoothes out the discontinuity jump by creating a transition layer which has the same amplitude and thickness as the Prandtl layer. In the neighborhood of the intersection of the impermeable boundary and of the hypersurface, interactions between the boundary and the transition layers must then be considered. In this paper, we initiate a mathematical study of this interaction and carry out a strong convergence in the inviscid limit for the case of the plane parallel flows introduced by Di Perna and Majda in \cite{DM}.

On the motion of a small body immersed in a two dimensional incompressible perfect fluid

In this paper we prove that the motion of a solid body in a two dimensional incompressible perfect fluid converges, when the body shrinks to a point with fixed mass and circulation, to a variant of the vortex-wave system where the vortex, placed in the point occupied by the shrunk body, is accelerated by a lift force similar to the Kutta-Joukowski force of the irrotational theory.

On the ferromagnetism equations with large variations solutions

We exhibit some large variations solutions of the Landau-Lifschitz equations as the exchange coefficient ε^2 tends to zero. These solutions are described by some asymptotic expansions which involve some internals layers by means of some large amplitude fluctuations in a neighborhood of width of order ε of an hypersurface contained in the domain. Despite the nonlinear behaviour of these layers we manage to justify locally in time these asymptotic expansions.
