A Geometrical Interpretation of Okubo Spin Group

In this work we define, for the first time, the affine and projective plane over the real Okubo algebra, showing a concrete geometrical interpretation of its Spin group. Okubo algebra is a flexible, composition algebra which is also a not unital division algebra. Even though Okubo algebra has been known for more than 40 years, we believe that this is the first time the algebra was used for affine and projective geometry. After showing that all axioms of affine geometry are verified, we define a projective plane over Okubo algebra as completion of the affine plane and directly through the use of Veronese coordinates. We then present a bijection between the two constructions. Finally we show a geometric interpretation of Spin(O) as the group of collineations that preserve the axis of the plane.

Deformation of the Okubic Albert algebra and its relation to the Okubic affine and projective planes

We present a deformation of the Okubic Albert algebra introduced by Elduque whose rank-1 idempotent elements are in biunivocal correspondence with points of the Okubic projective plane, thus extending to Okubic algebras the correspondence found by Jordan, Von Neumann, Wigner between the octonionic projective plane and the rank-3 Exceptional Jordan Algebra.

Local Systems, Algebraic Foliations and Fibrations

Given a semistable fibration $f\colon X\to B$ we introduce a correspondence between foliations $\mathcal{F}$ on $X$ and local systems $\mathbb{L}$ on $B$. Building up on this correspondence we find conditions that give maximal rationally connected fibrations in terms of data on the foliation. We prove the Castelnuovo-de Franchis theorem in the case of $p$-forms and we apply it to show when, under some natural conditions, a line subbundle of the sheaf of $p$-forms induces the Iitaka fibration.

Fujita decomposition and Massey product for fibered varieties

Let $f\colon X\to B$ be a semistable fibration where $X$ is a smooth variety of dimension $n\geq 2$ and $B$ is a smooth curve. We give the structure theorem for the local system of the relative $1$-forms and of the relative top forms. This gives a neat interpretation of the second Fujita decomposition of $f_*ω_{X/B}$. We apply our interpretation to show the existence, up to base change, of higher irrational pencils and on the finiteness of the associated monodromy representations under natural Castelnuovo-type hypothesis on local subsystems. Finally we give a criterion to have that $X$ is not of Albanese general type if $B=\mathbb{P}^1$.

Differential forms and quadrics of the canonical image

Let $π\colon\mathcal{X}\to B$ be a family over a smooth connected analytic variety $B$, not necessarily compact, whose general fiber $X$ is smooth of dimension $n$, with irregularity $\geq n+1$ and such that the image of the canonical map of $X$ is not contained in any quadric of rank $\leq 2n+3$. We prove that if the Albanese map of $X$ is of degree $1$ onto its image then the fibers of $π\colon\mathcal{X}\to B$ are birational under the assumption that all the $1$-forms and all the $n$-forms of a fiber are holomorphically liftable to $\mathcal{X}$. Moreover we show that generic Torelli holds for such a family $π\colon \mathcal{X}\to B$ if, in addition to the above hypothesis, we assume that the fibers are minimal and their minimal model is unique. There are counterexamples to the above statements if the canonical image is contained inside quadrics of rank $\leq 2n+3$. We also solve the infinitesimal Torelli problem for an $n$-dimensional variety $X$ of general type with irregularity $\geq n+1$ and such that its cotangent sheaf is generated and the canonical map is a rational map whose image is not contained in a quadric of rank less or equal to $2n+3$.

Generalized adjoint forms on algebraic varieties

We prove a full generalization of the Castelnuovo's free pencil trick. We show its analogies with the Adjoint Theorem; see L. Rizzi, F. Zucconi, Differential forms and quadrics of the canonical image, arXiv:1409.1826 and also Theorem 1.5.1 in G. P. Pirola, F. Zucconi, Variations of the Albanese morphisms, J. Algebraic Geom. 12 (2003), no. 3, 535-572. Moreover we find a new formulation of the Griffiths's infinitesimal Torelli Theorem for smooth projective hypersurfaces using meromorphic $1$-forms.

A note on Harris Morrison sweeping families of maximal gonality

Harris and Morrison constructed semistable families f:F \to Y of k-gonal curves of genus g such that for every k the corresponding modular curves give a sweeping family in the k-gonal locus in the moduli space. Their construction depends on the choice of a smooth curve X. We show that if the genus g(X) is sufficiently high with respect to g, then the ratio K_F^2 / χ(O_F) is 8 asymptotically with respect to g(X). We show also that if the gonality is maximal and some conjectured estimates of Harris and Morrison hold, the slope of the fibration f: F\to Y is 12 asymptotically with respect to g and that F is a surface of positive index.
