Optimal C∞C^\infty-approximation of functions with exponentially or sub-exponentially integrable derivative

We discuss Meyers-Serrin's type results for smooth approximations of functions b=b(t,x):R×Rn→Rmb=b(t,x):\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^n\to\mathbb{R}^m, with convergence of an energy of the form ∫R∫Rnw(t,x)φ(∣Db(t,x)∣)dxdt , \int_{\mathbb{R}}\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} w(t,x) φ\left(|Db(t,x)|\right)\mathrm{d} x \mathrm{d} t\,, where w>0w>0 is a suitable weight function, and φ:[0,∞)→[0,∞)φ:[0,\infty)\to [0,\infty) is a convex function with φ(0)=0φ(0)=0 having exponential or sub-exponential growth.

ΓΓ-convergence for functionals depending on vector fields. I. Integral representation and compactness

Given a family of locally Lipschitz vector fields X(x)=(X1(x),…,Xm(x))X(x)=(X_1(x),\dots,X_m(x)) on Rn\mathbb{R}^n, m≤nm\leq n, we study functionals depending on XX. We prove an integral representation for local functionals with respect to XX and a result of ΓΓ-compactness for a class of integral functionals depending on XX.

BV Minimizers of the area functional in the Heisenberg group under the bounded slope condition

We consider the area functional for t-graphs in the sub-Riemannian Heisenberg group and study minimizers of the associated Dirichlet problem. We prove that, under a bounded slope condition on the boundary datum, there exists a unique minimizer and that this minimizer is Lipschitz continuous. We also provide an example showing that, in the first Heisenberg group, Lipschitz regularity is sharp even under the bounded slope condition.
