Do You Understand How I Feel?: Towards Verified Empathy in Therapy Chatbots

Conversational agents are increasingly used as support tools along mental therapeutic pathways with significant societal impacts. In particular, empathy is a key non-functional requirement in therapeutic contexts, yet current chatbot development practices provide no systematic means to specify or verify it. This paper envisions a framework integrating natural language processing and formal verification to deliver empathetic therapy chatbots. A Transformer-based model extracts dialogue features, which are then translated into a Stochastic Hybrid Automaton model of dyadic therapy sessions. Empathy-related properties can then be verified through Statistical Model Checking, while strategy synthesis provides guidance for shaping agent behavior. Preliminary results show that the formal model captures therapy dynamics with good fidelity and that ad-hoc strategies improve the probability of satisfying empathy requirements.

Tracking charged $b$-hadrons: feasibility study of the use of inner trackers to improve $B^{+}_{(c)}$ reconstruction

A method to improve the reconstruction of charged b-hadron decays is proposed that uses energy deposits left by the hadron in tracking detectors close to the production point. Performances are shown for different detector configurations and different number of deposits reconstructed, as obtained in simulation, for $b$-hadrons produced in high energy proton-proton collisions. It is shown that up to few percent of the $B^+$ mesons could leave two deposits before decaying, depending on the detector configuration. The presented results can inform the design of future inner detectors. This method could increase significantly the physics reach of flavour physics at hadron colliders, opening it to decays with missing particles and vertex information that are otherwise unreconstructable.

Testing the HyperCP anomaly at LHCb: evidence for the $Σ^+ \to p μ^+ μ^-$ decay

A search for $Σ^+ \to p μ^+ μ^-$ decays with LHCb Run 1 data is presented, yielding an evidence for this decay and a measurement of a branching fraction compatible with the Standard Model. The HyperCP anomaly in the dimuon invariant mass distribution is not confirmed, and its branching fraction central value is excluded at 95\% CL. Prospects for the future of this measurement in LHCb are also presented.

Properties of frequentist confidence levels derivatives

In high energy physics, results from searches for new particles or rare processes are often reported using a modified frequentist approach, known as $\rm{CL_s}$ method. In this paper, we study the properties of the derivatives of $\rm{CL_s}$ and $\rm{CL_{s+b}}$ as signal strength estimators if the confidence levels are interpreted as credible intervals. Our approach allows obtaining best fit points and $χ^2$ functions which can be used for phenomenology studies. In addition, this approach can be used to incorporate $\rm{CL_s}$ results into Bayesian combinations.

Rare charm decays: an experimental review

Indirect searches, and in particular rare decays, have proven to be a fruitful field to search for New Physics beyond the Standard Model. While the down-quark sector (B and K) have been studied in detail, less attention was devoted to charm decays due to the smaller expected values and higher theoretical uncertainties of their observables. Recently a renewed interest is growing in rare charm searches. In this article we review the current experimental status of searches for rare decays in charmed hadrons. While the Standard Model rates are yet to be reached, current experimental limits are already putting constraints on New Physics models.
