Implementing WordNet Measures of Lexical Semantic Similarity in a Fuzzy Logic Programming System

This paper introduces techniques to integrate WordNet into a Fuzzy Logic Programming system. Since WordNet relates words but does not give graded information on the relation between them, we have implemented standard similarity measures and new directives allowing the proximity equations linking two words to be generated with an approximation degree. Proximity equations are the key syntactic structures which, in addition to a weak unification algorithm, make a flexible query-answering process possible in this kind of programming language. This addition widens the scope of Fuzzy Logic Programming, allowing certain forms of lexical reasoning, and reinforcing Natural Language Processing applications. Applying Constraint Logic Programming to SQL Semantic Analysis

This paper proposes the use of Constraint Logic Programming (CLP) to model SQL queries in a data-independent abstract layer by focusing on some semantic properties for signalling possible errors in such queries. First, we define a translation from SQL to Datalog, and from Datalog to CLP, so that solving this CLP program will give information about inconsistency, tautology, and possible simplifications. We use different constraint domains which are mapped to SQL types, and propose them to cooperate for improving accuracy. Our approach leverages a deductive system that includes SQL and Datalog, and we present an implementation in this system which is currently being tested in classroom, showing its advantages and differences with respect to other approaches, as well as some performance data. This paper is under consideration for acceptance in TPLP.

Intuitionistic Logic Programming for SQL (Extended Abstract)

Intuitionistic logic programming provides the notion of embedded implication in rule bodies, which can be used to reason about a current database modified by the antecedent. This can be applied to a system that translates SQL to Datalog to solve SQL WITH queries, for which relations are locally defined and can therefore be understood as added to the current database. In addition, assumptions in SQL queries as either adding or removing data can be modelled in this way as well, which is an interesting feature for decision-support scenarios. This work suggests a way to apply intuitionistic logic programming to SQL, and provides a pointer to a working system implementing this idea.

Improving the Deductive System DES with Persistence by Using SQL DBMS's

This work presents how persistent predicates have been included in the in-memory deductive system DES by relying on external SQL database management systems. We introduce how persistence is supported from a user-point of view and the possible applications the system opens up, as the deductive expressive power is projected to relational databases. Also, we describe how it is possible to intermix computations of the deductive engine and the external database, explaining its implementation and some optimizations. Finally, a performance analysis is undertaken, comparing the system with current relational database systems.
