A remark on the concentration compactness principle in critical dimension

We prove some refinements of concentration compactness principle for Sobolev space W1,nW^{1,n} on a smooth compact Riemannian manifold of dimension nn. As an application, we extend Aubin's theorem for functions on Sn\mathbb{S}^{n} with zero first order moments of the area element to higher order moments case. Our arguments are very flexible and can be easily modified for functions satisfying various boundary conditions or belonging to higher order Sobolev spaces.

Improved Moser-Trudinger-Onofri inequality under constraints

A classical result of Aubin states that the constant in Moser-Trudinger-Onofri inequality on S2\mathbb{S}^{2} can be imporved for furnctions with zero first order moments of the area element. We generalize it to higher order moments case. These new inequalities bear similarity to a sequence of Lebedev-Milin type inequalities on S1\mathbb{S}^{1} coming from the work of Grenander-Szego on Toeplitz determinants (as pointed out by Widom). We also discuss the related sharp inequality by a perturbation method.

Liouville type theorems on manifolds with nonnegative curvature and strictly convex boundary

We prove some Liouville type theorems on smooth compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature and strictly convex boundary. This gives a nonlinear generalization in low dimension of the recent sharp lower bound of the first Steklov eigenvalue by Xia-Xiong and verifies partially a conjecture by the third author. As a consequence, we derive several sharp Sobolev trace inequalities on these manifolds.

Paneitz operator for metrics near S3S^3

We derive the first and second variation formula for the Green's function pole's value of Paneitz operator on the standard three sphere. In particular it is shown that the first variation vanishes and the second variation is nonpositively definite. Moreover, the second variation vanishes only at the direction of conformal deformation. We also introduce a new invariant of the Paneitz operator and illustrate its close relation with the second eigenvalue and Sobolev inequality of Paneitz operator.
