A computational approach to Drinfeld modules

This survey provides a practical and algorithmic perspective on Drinfeld modules over $\mathbb F_q[T]$. Starting with the construction of the Carlitz module, we present Drinfeld modules in any rank and some of their arithmetic properties. We emphasise the analogies with elliptic curves, and in the meantime, we also highlight key differences such as their rank structure and their associated Anderson motives. This document is designed for researchers in number theory, arithmetic geometry, algorithmic number theory, cryptography, or computer algebra, offering tools and insights to navigate the computational aspects of Drinfeld modules effectively. We include detailed SageMath implementations to illustrate explicit computations and facilitate experimentation. Applications to polynomial factorisation, isogeny computations, cryptographic constructions, and coding theory are also presented.

Distortion maps for elliptic curves over finite fields

The Weil pairing on elliptic curves has deep links with discrete logarithm problems. In practice, to better suit the functionalities of cryptosystems, one often needs to modify the original Weil pairing via what is called a distortion map. We propose a study on the question of the existence of distortion maps for elliptic curves over finite fields. We revisit results from the literature and provide detailed proofs. We also propose new perspectives at times.

Heights and regulators of number fields and elliptic curves

We compare general inequalities between invariants of number fields and invariants of abelian varieties over number fields. On the number field side, we remark that there is only a finite number of non-CM number fields with bounded regulator. On the abelian side, assuming the height conjecture of Lang and Silverman, we obtain a Northcott property for the regulator on the set of abelian varieties with dense rational points over a number field. This amounts to say that the arithmetic of CM fields is similar, with respect to the invariants considered here, to the arithmetic of abelian varieties over a number field having a non Zariski dense Mordell-Weil group.

Heights, ranks and regulators of abelian varieties

We lower bound the Faltings height of an abelian variety over a number field by the sum of its injectivity diameter and the norm of its bad reduction primes. It leads to an unconditional bound on the rank of Mordell-Weil groups. Assuming the height conjecture of Lang and Silverman, we then obtain a Northcott property for the regulator on the set of simple abelian varieties defined over a fixed number field, of fixed dimension $g$, bounded rank and with dense rational points over a number field. We remove the simplicity assumption in the principally polarized case by giving a refined version of the Lang-Silverman conjecture.

Minoration de la hauteur de Neron-Tate sur les surfaces abeliennes

This paper contains results concerning a conjecture made by Lang and Silverman predicting a lower bound for the canonical height on abelian varieties of dimension 2 over number fields. The method used here is a local height decomposition. We derive as corollaries uniform bounds on the number of torsion points on families of abelian surfaces and on the number of rational points on families of genus 2 curves.
