Chaotic behavior of a spin-glass model on a Cayley tree

We investigate the phase diagram of a spin--1 Ising spin-glass model on a Cayley tree. According to early work of Thompson and collaborators, this problem can be formulated in terms of a set of nonlinear discrete recursion relations along the branches of the tree. Physically relevant solutions correspond to the attractors of these mapping equations. In the limit of infinite coordination of the tree, and for some choices of the model parameters, we make contact with findings for the phase diagram of more recently investigated versions of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths spin-glass model. In addition to the anticipated phases, we numerically characterize the existence of modulated and chaotic structures.

A renormalization group study of the three-color Ashkin-Teller model on a Wheatstone hierarchical lattice

We have investigated the three-color Ashkin-Teller model (3AT), on the Wheatstone bridge hierarchical lattice, by means of a Migdal-Kadanoff renormalization group approach. We have obtained the exact recursion relations for the renormalized couplings, which have been used to investigate the phase diagram and to study the corresponding critical points. The phase diagram, represented in terms of the dual transmissivity vector, presents four magnetic phases and nine critical points. We have also numerically calculated the correlation length ($ν_T$) and crossover ($ϕ$) critical exponents, which show that seven of the critical points are in the Potts model universality class ($q=2$, 4 e 8). The remaining critical points are in a universality class which may belong to the Baxter's line. Our results are exact on the hierarchical lattice used in the present work and the phase diagram can be considered as an approximation to more realistic Bravais lattices.

Tricriticality and Reentrance in a Naive Spin-Glass Model

In this paper a spin-1 spin-glass model under the presence of a uniform crystal field is investigated. It is shown that the model presents both continuous and first-order phase transition separated by a tricritical point. The phase diagram is obtained within the replica-symmetric solution and exhibits reentrance phenomena at low temperatures. Possibly it is the simplest model which can describe inverse freezing phenomena.

Exact relations between damage spreading and thermodynamic functions for the N-color Ashkin-Teller model

Exact results are derived relating quantities computable by the so-called damage spreading method and thermodynamic functions for the N-color Ashkin-Teller model. The results are valid for any ergodic dynamics. Since we restrict our analysis to the ferromagnetic case the results are also valid for any translational invariant lattice. The derived relations should be used in order to determine numerically the N-color Ashkin-Teller critical exponents with better accuracy and less computational efforts than standard Monte Carlo simulations.
