Volume functional of compact $4$-manifolds with a prescribed boundary metric

We prove that a critical metric of the volume functional on a $4$-dimensional compact manifold with boundary satisfying a second-order vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor must be isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form $\mathbb{R}^{4}$, $\mathbb{H}^{4}$ or $\mathbb{S}^{4}.$ Moreover, we provide an integral curvature estimate involving the Yamabe constant for critical metrics of the volume functional, which allows us to get a rigidity result for such critical metrics.

Critical metrics of the volume functional on compact three-manifolds with smooth boundary

We study the space of smooth Riemannian structures on compact three-manifolds with boundary that satisfies a critical point equation associated with a boundary value problem, for simplicity, Miao-Tam critical metrics. We provide an estimate to the area of the boundary of Miao-Tam critical metrics on compact three-manifolds. In addition, we obtain a Böchner type formula which enables us to show that a Miao-Tam critical metric on a compact three-manifold with positive scalar curvature must be isometric to a geodesic ball in $\Bbb{S}^3.$

Critical Metrics of the Volume Functional on Manifolds with Boundary

The goal of this article is to study the space of smooth Riemannian structures on compact manifolds with boundary that satisfies a critical point equation associated with a boundary value problem. We provide an integral formula which enables us to show that if a critical metric of the volume functional on a connected $n$-dimensional manifold $M^n$ with boundary $\partial M$ has parallel Ricci tensor, then $M^n$ is isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ or $\mathbb{S}^{n}$.

Critical metrics of the total scalar curvature functional on 4-manifolds

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional restricted to space of metrics with constant scalar curvature of unitary volume, for simplicity CPE metrics. It was conjectured in $1980$'s that every CPE metric must be Einstein. We prove that a $4$-dimensional CPE metric with harmonic tensor $W^+$ must be isometric to a round sphere $\Bbb{S}^4.$

4-dimensional compact manifolds with nonnegative biorthogonal curvature

The goal of this article is to study the pinching problem proposed by S.-T. Yau in 1990 replacing sectional curvature by one weaker condition on biorthogonal curvature. Moreover, we classify 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative biorthogonal curvature. In particular, we obtain a partial answer to Yau Conjecture on pinching theorem for 4-dimensional compact manifolds.

Bach-flat critical metrics of the volume functional on 4-dimensional manifolds with boundary

The purpose of this article is to investigate Bach-flat critical metrics of the volume functional on a compact manifold $M$ with boundary $\partial M.$ Here, we prove that a Bach-flat critical metric of the volume functional on a simply connected 4-dimensional manifold with boundary isometric to a standard sphere must be isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form $\Bbb{R}^{4},$ $\Bbb{H}^{4}$ or $\Bbb{S}^{4}$. Moreover, we show that in dimension three the result even is true replacing the Bach-flat condition by the weaker assumption that $M$ has divergence-free Bach tensor.

Bounds on volume growth of geodesic balls for Einstein warped products

The purpose of this note is to provide some volume estimates for Einstein warped products similar to a classical result due to Calabi and Yau for complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. To do so, we make use of the approach of quasi-Einstein manifolds which is directly related to Einstein warped product. In particular, we present an obstruction for the existence of such a class of manifolds.

Uniqueness of quasi-Einstein metrics on 3-dimensional homogeneous manifolds

The purpose of this article is to study the existence and uniqueness of quasi-Einstein structures on $3$-dimensional homogeneous Riemannian manifolds. To this end, we use the eight model geometries for 3-dimensional manifolds identified by Thurston. First, we present here a complete description of quasi-Einstein metrics on $3$-dimensional homogeneous manifolds with isometry group of dimension $4.$ In addition, we shall show the absence of such gradient structure on $Sol^3,$ which has $3$-dimensional isometry group. Moreover, we prove that Berger's spheres carry a non-trivial quasi-Einstein structure with non gradient associated vector field, this shows that a theorem due to Perelman can not be extend to quasi-Einstein metrics. Finally, we prove that a $3$-dimensional homogeneous manifold carrying a gradient quasi-Einstein structure is either Einstein or $\mathbb{H}^2_κ \times \mathbb{R}.$

A note on the uniqueness of quasi-Einstein metrics on $\Bbb{H}^{n}\times \Bbb{R}$

The aim of this note is to give an explicit description of quasi-Einstein metrics on $\Bbb{H}^{n}\times \Bbb{R}.$ We shall construct two examples of quasi-Einstein metrics on this manifold and then we shall prove the uniqueness of these examples. Finally, we shall describe the closed relation between quasi-Einstein metrics and static metrics in the quoted space.
