Unitarity and Finkelstein-Kajantie problem in diffraction hadron production

The diffraction production of many hadron showers separated by large rapidity gaps, when calculated within the standard pomeron approach, lead to cross sections rising much faster than Froissart-Martin bound. This is the point of Finkelstein-Kajantie problem. We consider the unitarization procedure based on Dyson-Schwinger equations with input froissaron propagators and 3-froissaron vertex (3f-vertex) depending on angular momenta of froissarons in it. The developed diffraction production model allows to resolve Finkelstein-Kajantie problem.

Multigap diffraction cross sections. Problems in eikonal methods for the pomeron unitarization

Large rapidity gap diffraction processes are considered in multi-channel eikonal models. It is shown that shadow corrections to over-fast rising contribution of the input supercritical pomeron (with $α(0)>1$), originating from the pomeron rescatterings or, equivalently, accounting survival probability factor, do not solve the Finkelstein-Kajantie problem. Therefore, in our opinion, another methods of unitarization of supercritical pomeron should be developed.

The ratio $ρ^{pp}_{\bar pp}(s)$ in Froissaron and Maximal Odderon approach

The ratios $ρ^{pp}_{\bar pp}(s)$ of the real to the imaginary part of forward elastic $pp$ and $\bar pp$ scattering amplitudes at very high energies are considered in the models with rising total cross-sections and its difference. It is shown from the dispersion relations for $pp$ and $\bar pp$ scattering amplitudes that in the Froissaron and Maximal Odderon approach the ratios do not vanish asymptotically and they have the opposite signs for $pp$ and $\bar pp$ scattering.

Impact analysis of TOTEM data at the LHC: black disk limit exceeded

We discuss the profile of the impact--parameter dependent elastic scattering amplitude. Extraction of impact-parameter dependence from the dataset with inclusion of the experimental data on elastic scattering at the LHC energies helps to reveal the asymptotics of hadron interactions. Analysis of the data clearly indicates that the impact-parameter elastic scattering amplitude exceed the black disk limit at the LHC energy 7TeV and the inelastic overlap function reaches its maximum value at $b>0$

Quasi-eikonal and quasi-U-matrix unitarization schemes beyond the Black Disk Limit

Quasi-eikonal and quasi-U-matrix unitarization of the standard Regge-pole amplitude for $α(0)>1$ have been considered. We show that some violation of unitarity even at high energy exists in both models. We have found in quasi-eikonal model a bump-oscillation structure of ${\rm Im}H(s,b)$ at large values of impact parameter $b$ but where ${\rm Im}H(s,b)$ is closed to the maximal value. We argue that it is possible to choose the parameter regulating deviation of generalized models from pure eikonal or U-matrix modes in order to restore unitarity.

Can the "standard" unitarized Regge models describe the TOTEM data?

The standard Regge poles are considered as inputs for two unitarization methods: eikonal and U-matrix. It is shown that only models with three input pomerons and two input odderons can describe the high energy data on $pp$ and $\bar pp$ elastic scattering including the new data from Tevatron and LHC. However, it seems that the both considered models (eikonal and U-matrix) require a further modification (e.g., to explore nonlinear reggeon trajectories and/or nonexponential vertex functions) for a more satisfactory description of the data at 19.0 GeV$\leq \sqrt{s}\leq$ 7 TeV and 0.01 $\leq |t|\leq $14.2 GeV$^{2}$.

Proton (antiproton) elastic scattering at energies from FNAL to LHC in the tripole pomeron-odderon model

The model of elastic scattering amplitudes dominated by the triple (at $t=0$) pomeron pole suggested earlier is modified to confront to existing experimental data on $pp$ and $\bar pp$ total and differential cross sections at $\sqrt{s}\geq 19$ GeV and $|t|\leq 14.2$ GeV$^{2}$ including the newest TOTEM data. Predictions for the future TOTEM measurements at 13 and 14 TeV are given.

Dispersion relations for meson-proton and proton-proton forward elastic scattering

An analysis of the data on forward $pp, \bar pp, π^{\pm}p$ and $K^{\pm}p$ scattering is performed making use of the single- and double-subtraction integral and comparing with derivative dispersion relations for amplitudes. Various pomeron and odderon models for the total cross sections are considered and compared. The real part of the amplitude is calculated via dispersion relations. It is shown that the integral dispersion relations lead to a better description of the data for $\sqrt{s}>$5 GeV. Predictions of the considered models for the TOTEM experiment at LHC energies are given

preprint2010arXiv

Predictions for TOTEM experiment at LHC from integral and derivative dispersion relations

Integral and derivative dispersion relations (IDR and DDR) are considered for the proton-proton and antiproton-proton forward scattering amplitudes. A scheme for calculation of the corrections to asymptotic form for the DDR is presented. The data on the total proton-proton and antiproton-proton cross sections as well as the data on the ratios $ρ$ of real to imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitudes have been analyzed by the IDR and DDR methods within high-energy Regge models. Regge parametrizations of high-energy total cross sections supplemented by the properly calculated low-energy part of the dispersion integral (from the two-proton threshold up to center-of-mass energy 5 GeV) allow to reproduce well the $ρ$ data at low energies with the only free parameter, subtraction constant. It is shown that three models for the pomeron, simple pole pomeron (with intercept large than unity), tripole pomeron and dipole pomeron (the both with the unit value intercept) lead to practically equivalent description of the available data at $\sqrt{s}>$5 GeV. Predictions for the TOTEM measurements of cross section and $ρ$ at the center-of-mass energies 7 and 14 GeV are given.

The soft and the hard pomerons in hadron elastic scattering at small t

We consider simple-pole descriptions of soft elastic scattering for pp, pbar p, pi+ p, pi- p, K+ p and K- p. We work at t and s small enough for rescatterings to be neglected, and allow for the presence of a hard pomeron. After building and discussing an exhaustive dataset, we show that simple poles provide an excellent description of the data in the region - 0.5 GeV^2 < t < -0.1 GeV^2, 6 GeV<sqrt(s)< 63 GeV. We show that new form factors have to be used, and get information on the trajectories of the soft and hard pomerons.

Integral and derivative dispersion relations, analysis of the forward scattering data

Integral and derivative dispersion relations (DR) are considered for the forward scattering $pp$ and $\bar pp$ amplitudes. A new representation for the derivative DR, valid not only at high energy, is obtained. The data on the total cross sections for $pp (\bar pp)$ interaction as well as the data on the parameter $ρ$ are analyzed within the various forms of the DR and high-energy Regge models. It is shown that three models for the Pomeron, Simple pole Pomeron, Tripole Pomeron and Dipole Pomeron (the both with the intercept equal unit) lead to practically equivalent description of the data at $\sqrt{s}>$5 GeV. It is also shown that the correctly calculated low-energy part of the dispersion integral (from the two-proton threshold up to $\sqrt{s}=$5 GeV) allows to reproduce well the $ρ$ data at low energies without additional free parameters.

t-channel unitarity and photon cross sections

We analyse the consequences of t-channel unitarity for the photon hadronic cross sections. We show that gamma(*)p and gamma(*) gamma(*) elastic amplitudes must include the complex-j plane singularities associated with hadronic elastic amplitudes, and give the characteristics of possible new singularities. We also show that several different models of hadronic total cross sections can be used to predict the LEP data from the HERA measurements.

Pomeron effective intercept, logarithmic derivatives of $F_{2}(x,Q^{2})$ in DIS and Regge models

The drastic rise of the proton structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ when the Björken variable $x$ decreases, seen at HERA for a large span of $Q^2$, may be damped when $x\to 0$ and $Q^2$ increases beyond $\sim$ several hundreds \g2. This phenomenon observed in the Regge type models is discussed in terms of the effective Pomeron intercept and of the derivative $B_x=\partial{\ell n F_2(x,Q^2)}/\partial{\ell n(1/x)}$. The method of the overlapping bins is used to extract the derivatives $B_x$ and $B_Q=\partial{\ell n F_2(x,Q^2)}/\partial{Q^2}$ from the data on $F_2$ for $6.0\cdot 10^{-5}\le x\le 0.61$ and $1.2 \le Q^2$ (\g2) $\le 5000$. It is shown that the extracted derivatives are well described by recent Regge models with the Pomeron intercept equal one.

Regge models of the proton structure function with and without hard Pomeron: a comparative analysis

A comparative phenomenological analysis of Regge models with and without a hard Pomeron component is performed using a common set of recently updated data. It is shown that the data at small $x$ do not indicate explicitly the presence of the hard Pomeron. Moreover, the models with two soft-Pomeron components (simple and double poles in the angular momentum plane) with trajectories having intercept equal one lead to the best description of the data not only at $W>3$ GeV and at small $x$ but also at all $x\leq 0.75$ and $Q^{2}\leq 30000$ GeV$^{2}$.

Rescattering corrections in elastic scattering

A detailed study of the rescattering series is performed within a model, using a generalized procedure of eikonalization and fitted to the $pp$ and $\bar pp$ elastic scattering data. We estimate and compare the various rescattering corrections to be added to the Born contribution in the amplitude. We find that their number is finite, whereas it increases with the energy and the transfer, like does their importance. In the domain where data exist, we find also that a correct computation must include, at least, all two- and three-Reggeon exchanges and some four- and five-Reggeon exchanges. Any approximation aiming to reduce this (large) number of exchange would be hazardous, especially when extrapolating. We extend our estimates in the domain of future experiments.

Damping of the HERA effect in DIS?

The drastic rise of the proton structure function F_2(x,Q^2) when the Björken variable x decreases, seen at HERA for a large span of Q^2, negative values for the 4-momentum transfer, may be damped when Q^2 increases beyond several hundreds GeV^2. A new data analysis and a comparison with recent models for the proton structure function is proposed to discuss this phenomenon in terms of the derivative \partial ln F_2(x,Q^2)/\partial ln(1/x).

preprint1998arXiv

New possibilities of old soft pomeron in DIS

A traditional Regge model with a $Q^2$-independent Pomeron intercept closed (or equal) to one is constructed in order to describe the available data on the proton structure function. A Dipole Pomeron model which does not explicitly violate unitarity is developed and investigated. An excellent agreement with the 1209 data is found ($χ^2/{dof}=1.11$) in the whole kinematical domain investigated by experiments. A comparison of the model with already existing ones is made. The $x-$, $Q^2-$slopes and the effective intercept are discussed as $Q^2$ and $x$ functions.
