Next-to-Leading Order Transport Coefficients from the Four-Particle Irreducible Effective Action

Transport coefficients can be obtained from 2-point correlators using the Kubo formulae. It has been shown that the full leading order result for electrical conductivity and (QCD) shear viscosity is contained in the re-summed 2-point function that is obtained from the 3-loop 3PI re-summed effective action. The theory produces all leading order contributions without the necessity for power counting, and in this sense it provides a natural framework for the calculation. In this article we study the 4-loop 4PI effective action for a scalar theory with cubic and quartic interactions in the presence of spontaneous symmetry breaking. We obtain a set of integral equations that determine the re-summed 2-point vertex function. A next-to-leading order contribution to the viscosity could be obtained from this set of coupled equations.

Rotating optical cavity experiment testing Lorentz invariance at the 10^{-17} level

We present an improved laboratory test of Lorentz invariance in electrodynamics by testing the isotropy of the speed of light. Our measurement compares the resonance frequencies of two orthogonal optical resonators that are implemented in a single block of fused silica and are rotated continuously on a precision air bearing turntable. An analysis of data recorded over the course of one year sets a limit on an anisotropy of the speed of light of Δc/c ~ 1 x 10^{-17}. This constitutes the most accurate laboratory test of the isotropy of $c$ to date and allows to constrain parameters of a Lorentz violating extension of the standard model of particle physics down to a level of 10^{-17}.

Weakly interacting Bose gases below the critical temperature

We consider a homogeneous non-ideal Bose gas at nonzero temperature in equilibrium below the critical temperature $T_C$ in the framework of finite temperature field theory. An algorithm is described in which a manageable subset of diagrams can be considered which, coupled with a self--consistent condition related to the minimization of the free energy, can be used to obtain physically reasonable results.

Leading Order QCD Shear Viscosity from the 3PI Effective Action

In this article we calculate the leading order shear viscosity in QCD using the resummed 3PI effective action. We work to 3-loop order in the effective action. We show that the integral equations that resum the pinching and collinear contributions are produced naturally by the formalism. All leading order terms are included, without the need for any kind of power counting arguments.
