Relativistic photoeffect for $s$ states in a central field

We study the photoionization of the $s$ states in the systems bound by sufficiently weak central fields $V(r)$ for the large photon energies corresponding to the relativistic photoelectrons. We demonstrate that the energy dependence of the photoionization cross section can be obtained without solving the wave equation. We show that the shape of the energy dependence of the cross section is determined by analytical properties of the binding potential $V(r)$. We find the cross sections for the potentials $V(r)$ which have singularities in the origin, on the real axis and in the complex plane.

On neutrinoless double electron capture

We found the probability for the neutrinoless double electron capture in the case of $KK$ capture. We clarified the mechanism of the energy transfer from the nucleus to the bound electrons. This enabled us to obtain the equations for the probability of the $2EC0ν$ process which modify those obtained earlier. We found that the probability of the process is three orders of magnitude larger than it was supposed earlier.

Influence of the inner shell electrons on photoionization of outer shells

We have studied the role of virtual excitations of inner shells upon outer shell photoionization. The calculations were performed in the frames of the Random Phase Approximation and its generalized version GRPAE that take into account variation of the atomic field due to electron elimination and the inner vacancies decay. We employ both analytic approximation and numeric computations. The results are presented for 3p electrons in Ar and 4d-electrons in Pd near inner shells thresholds. The effect proved to be noticeable.

Nucleon QCD sum rules in instanton medium

We try to find the grounds for the standard nucleon QCD sum rules, based on more detailed description of QCD vacuum. We calculate the polarization operator of the nucleon current in the instanton medium. The medium (QCD vacuum) is assumed to be a composition of the small-size instantons and some long-wave gluon fluctuations. We solve the corresponding QCD sum rules equations and demonstrate that there is a solution with the value of the nucleon mass close to the physical one if the fraction of the small size instantons contribution w_s \approx 2/3.

Explanation of the recent results on photoionization of endohedral atoms

We suggest an explanation of the recently observed discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical results on ionization of atoms, encapsulated into the fullerenes by photons with the energies of about 80-190eV. On the ground of previous theoretical considerations we conclude that the photoionization of the caged atom without excitation of the fullerene shell has low probability.

Nucleon QCD sum rules in instanton vacuum

We calculate the polarization operator of the nucleon current in the instanton medium. The medium (QCD vacuum) is assumed to be a composition of the instantons of large and small sizes. The former are described in terms of the local scalar condensate, while the latter can be interpreted as the nonlocal scalar condensate. We solve the corresponding QCD sum rules equations and demonstrate that there is a solution with the value of the nucleon mass close to the physical one if the fraction of the small size instantons w_s \approx 2/3.

On the loop approximation in nucleon QCD sum rules

There was a general believe that the nucleon QCD sum rules which include only the quark loops and thus contain only the condensates of dimension d=3 and d=4 have only a trivial solution. We demonstrate that there is also a nontrivial solution. We show that it can be treated as the lowest order approximation to the solution which includes the higher terms of the Operator Product Expansion. Inclusion of the radiative corrections improves the convergence of the series.

Multielectron processes in endohedral atoms at high energies

We analyze the role of shake-off and of the final state interactions in inelastic processes in the fullerene shell which follow ionization of the caged atom. We demonstrate that in the broad interval of the photon energies the process is dominated by the final state interactions. Its contribution is calculated in a model-independent way. In the large energy intervals the cross section of the process is close to that of photoionization of isolated atom.

On the dependence of one-photon - two-electron differential cross sections on recoil momenta

We calculate the distributions in recoil momenta and their energy distributions for the high energy non-relativistic double photoionization of helium caused by the quasifree mechanism of the process. The distributions obtain local maxima at small values of the recoil momenta. This is in agreement with the earlier predictions and with recently obtained experimental data. We obtained also the angular correlations, which reach the largest value in the "back-to-back" configuration of the photoelectrons. Our analysis is valid in all high energy nonrelativistic region. Particular equations are true for the case when the wavelength of the photon exceeds strongly the size of the atom. We present numerical results for the photon energies in the region of 1 keV, employed in the recent experiments.

On the interactions of the high energy photoelectrons with the fullerene shell

The probability that photoionization of the caged atom in an endohedral system is accompanied by excitation of the fullerene shell is shown to be close to unity in broad intervals of the photoelectron energies. The result is obtained by summation of the perturbative series for the interaction between the photoelectron and the fullerene shell. This result means that the interaction between the photoelectron ejected from the cage atom and the fullerene shell cannot be described by a static potential, since inelastic processes become decisively important.

A New Approach to Physics of Nuclei

We employ the QCD sum rules method for description of nucleons in nuclear matter. We show that this approach provides a consistent formalism for solving various problems of nuclear physics. Such nucleon characteristics as the Dirac effective mass $m^*$ and the vector self-energy $Σ_V$ are expressed in terms of the in-medium values of QCD condensates. The values of these parameters at saturation density and the dependence on the baryon density and on the neutron-to-proton density ratio is in agreement with the results, obtained by conventional nuclear physics method. The contributions to $m^*$ and $Σ_V$ are related to observables and do not require phenomenological parameters. The scalar interaction is shown to be determined by the pion--nucleon $σ$-term. The nonlinear behavior of the scalar condensate may appear to provide a possible mechanism of the saturation. The approach provided reasonable results for renormalization of the axial coupling constant, for the contribution of the strong interactions to the neutron--proton mass difference and for the behavior of the structure functions of the in-medium nucleon. The approach enables to solve the problems which are difficult or unaccessible for conventional nuclear physics methods. The method provides guide-lines for building the nuclear forces. The three-body interactions emerge within the method in a natural way. There rigorous calculation will be possible in framework of self-consistent calculation in nuclear matter of the scalar condensate and of the nucleon effective mass $m^*$.

The role of the in-medium four-quark condensates revised

We calculate the nucleon self-energies in nuclear matter in the QCD sum rules approach, taking into account the contributions of the four-quark condensates. We analyze the dependence of the results on the model employed for the calculation of the condensates and demonstrate that the relativistic character of the models is important. The condensates are calculated with inclusion of the most important terms beyond the gas approximation. This corresponds to inclusion of the two-body nucleon forces and of the most important three-body forces. The results are consistent with the convergence of the operator product expansion. The density dependence of the nucleon self-energies is obtained. The results are consistent with those obtained by the standard nuclear physics methods, thus inspiring further development of the approach.

Back-to-back emission of the electrons in double photoionization of helium

We calculate the double differential distributions and distributions in recoil momenta for the high energy non-relativistic double photoionization of helium. We show that the results of recent experiments is the pioneering experimental manifestation of the quasifree mechanism for the double photoionization, predicted long ago in our papers. This mechanism provides a surplus in distribution over the recoil momenta at small values of the latter, corresponding to nearly "back-to-back" emission of the electrons. Also in agreement with previous analysis the surplus is due to the quadrupole terms of the photon-electron interaction. We present the characteristic angular distribution for the "back-to-back" electron emission. The confirmation of the quasifree mechanism opens a new area of exiting experiments, which are expected to increase our understanding of the electron dynamics and of the bound states structure. The results of this Letter along with the recent experiments open a new field for studies of two-electron ionization not only by photons but by other projectiles, e.g. by fast electrons or heavy ions.

Role of unphysical solution in nucleon QCD sum rules

We show that at certain values of QCD condensates the nucleon QCD sum rules with "pole+continuum" model for the hadron spectrum obtain an unphysical solution. This provides constrains for the values of condensates to be consistent with existence of a physical solutions. The constrains become much weaker if the radiative corrections are included perturbatively. We demonstrate that the most important dependence of nucleon mass on the quark scalar condensate becomes much weaker under factorization assumption for the four-quark and six-quark condensates.

Formation of ions by high energy photons

We calculate the electron energy spectrum of ionization by a high energy photon, accompanied by creation of electron-positron pair. The total cross section of the process is also obtained. The asymptotics of the cross section does not depend on the photon energies. At the photon energies exceeding a certain value $ω_0$ this appeares to to be the dominant mechanism of formation of the ions. The dependence of $ω_0$ on the value of nuclear charge is obtained. Our results are consistent with experimental data.

Expectation values of four-quark operators in pions

The values of four-quark operators averaged over pions are expressed through those averaged over vacuum. The specific values are obtained in the framework of the factorization assumption. For the condensates of the light quarks of the same flavour \bar qΓq\bar qΓq the scalar condensate is shown to be an order of magnitude larger than the other ones. The condensates containing the strange quarks \bar q q\bar s s appear to be only about twice smaller than those of the light quarks. The degeneracy of the ground state in the Nambu--Jona--Lasinio model is shown explicitly.
