Induced surface and curvature tension equation of state for hadron resonance gas in finite volumes and its relation to morphological thermodynamics

Here we develop an original approach to investigate the grand canonical partition function of the multicomponent mixtures of Boltzmann particles with hard-core interaction in finite and even small systems of the volumes above 20 fm$^3$. The derived expressions of the induced surface tension equation of state are analyzed in details. It is shown that the metastable states, which can emerge in the finite systems with realistic interaction, appear at very high pressures at which the hadron resonance gas, most probably, is not applicable at all. It is shown how and under what conditions the obtained results for finite systems can be generalized to include into a formalism the equation for curvature tension. The applicability range of the obtained equations of induced surface and curvature tensions for finite systems is discussed and their close relations to the equations of the morphological thermodynamics are established. The hadron resonance gas model on the basis of the obtained advanced equation of state is worked out. Also, this model is applied to analyze the chemical freeze-out of hadrons and light nuclei with the number of (anti-)baryons not exceeding 4, including the most problematic ratios of hyper-triton and its antiparticle. Their multiplicities were measured by the ALICE Collaboration in the central lead-lead collisions at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} =$ 2.76 TeV.

Triple nuclear collisions - a new method to explore the matter properties under new extreme conditions

We suggest to explore an entirely new method to experimentally and theoretically study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter based on the triple nuclear collisions (TNC). We simulated the TNC using the UrQMD 3.4 model at the beam center-of-mass collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV and $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV. It is found that in the most central and simultaneous TNC the initial baryonic charge density is about 3 times higher than the one achieved in the usual binary nuclear collisions at the same energies. As a consequence, the production of protons and $Λ$-hyperons is increased by a factor of 2 and 1.5, respectively. Using the MIT Bag model equation we study the evolution of the central cell in TNC and demonstrate that for the top RHIC energy of collision the baryonic chemical potential is 2-2.5 times larger than the one achieved in the binary nuclear collision at the same type of reaction. Based on these estimates, we show that TNC offers an entirely new possibility to study the QCD phase diagram at very high baryonic charge densities.

Hard-core Radius of Nucleons within the Induced Surface Tension Approach

In this work we discuss a novel approach to model the hadronic and nuclear matter equations of state using the induced surface tension concept. Since the obtained equations of state, classical and quantum, are among the most successful ones in describing the properties of low density phases of strongly interacting matter, they set strong restrictions on the possible value of the hard-core radius of nucleons. Therefore, we perform a detailed analysis of its value which follows from hadronic and nuclear matter properties and find the most trustworthy range of its values: the hard-core radius of nucleons is 0.30--0.36 fm. A comparison with the phenomenology of neutron stars implies that the hard-core radius of nucleons has to be temperature and density dependent.

On separate chemical freeze-outs of hadrons and light (anti)nuclei in high energy nuclear collisions

The multiplicities of light (anti)nuclei were measured recently by the ALICE collaboration in Pb+Pb collisions at the center-of-mass collision energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =2.76$ TeV. Surprisingly, the hadron resonance gas model is able to perfectly describe their multiplicities under various assumptions. For instance, one can consider the (anti)nuclei with a vanishing hard-core radius (as the point-like particles) or with the hard-core radius of proton, but the fit quality is the same for these assumptions. In this paper we assume the hard-core radius of nuclei consisting of $A$ baryons or antibaryons to follow the simple law $R(A) = R_b (A)^\frac{1}{3}$, where $R_b$ is the hard-core radius of nucleon. To implement such a relation into the hadron resonance gas model we employ the induced surface tension concept and analyze the hadronic and (anti)nuclei multiplicities measured by the ALICE collaboration. The hadron resonance gas model with the induced surface tension allows us to verify different scenarios of chemical freeze-out of (anti)nuclei. It is shown that the most successful description of hadrons can be achieved at the chemical freeze-out temperature $T_h=150$ MeV, while the one for all (anti)nuclei is $T_A=168.5$ MeV. Possible explanations of this high temperature of (anti)nuclei chemical freeze-out are discussed.

Directed flow in heavy-ion collisions at NICA: what is interesting to measure?

We study the formation of the directed flow of hadrons in nuclear collisions at energies between AGS and SPS in Monte Carlo cascade model. The slope of the proton flow at midrapidity tends to zero (softening) with increasing impact parameter of the collision. For very peripheral topologies this slope becomes negative (antiflow). The effect is caused by rescattering of hadrons in remnants of the colliding nuclei. Since the softening of the proton flow can be misinterpreted as indication of the presence of quark-gluon plasma, we propose several measurements at NICA facility which can help one to distinguish between the cases with and without the plasma formation.

How many of the scaling trends in $pp$ collisions will be violated at sqrt{s_NN} = 14 TeV ? - Predictions from Monte Carlo quark-gluon string model

Multiplicity, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of hadrons produced both in inelastic and nondiffractive $pp$ collisions at energies from $\sqrt{s} = 200$\,GeV to 14\,TeV are studied within the Monte Carlo quark-gluon string model (QGSM). Good agreement with the available experimental data up to $\sqrt{s} = 13$\,TeV is obtained, and predictions are made for the collisions at top LHC energy $\sqrt{s} = 14$\,TeV. The model indicates that Feynman scaling and extended longitudinal scaling remain valid in the fragmentation regions, whereas strong violation of Feynman scaling is observed at midrapidity. The Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling in multiplicity distributions is violated at LHC also. The origin of both maintenance and violation of the scaling trends is traced to short range correlations of particles in the strings and interplay between the multistring processes at ultrarelativistic energies.

Angular dihadron correlations as interplay of elliptic and triangular flows

The hybrid model HYDJET++, which combines soft and hard components, is employed for the analysis of dihadron angular correlations measured in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV. The model allows for study both individual contributions and mutual influence of lower flow harmonics, v_2 and v_3, on higher harmonics and dihadron angular correlations. It is shown that the typical structure called ridge in dihadron angular correlations in a broad pseudorapidity range could appear just as interplay of v_2 and v_3. Central, semi-central and semi-peripheral collisions were investigated. Comparison of model results with the experimental data on dihadron angular correlations is presented for different centralities and transverse momenta p_T.

Anisotropic flow fluctuations in hydro-inspired freeze-out model for relativistic heavy ion collisions

The LHC data on event-by-event harmonic flow coefficients measured in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted within the HYDJET++ model. To compare the model results with the experimental data the unfolding procedure is employed. The essentially dynamical origin of the flow fluctuations in hydro-inspired freeze-out approach has been established. It is shown that the simple modification of the model via introducing the distribution over spatial anisotropy parameters permits HYDJET++ to reproduce both elliptic and triangular flow fluctuations and related to it eccentricity fluctuations of the initial state at the LHC energy.

Parton-medium cross section and average QGP viscosity in lead-lead collisions at LHC

The recent experimental CMS and E-by-E ATLAS data on the elliptic anisotropy of particles in \PbPb collisions are used to extract parton medium cross-section and the quark-gluon plasma viscosity-to-entropy ratio within the incomplete equilibration medium model. Our method assumes extrapolation of the measured pseudorapidity spectrum of charged particles to low-$p_T$ range. Then the rapidity distribution of both charged and neutral hadrons is restored. The extracted value of the parton-medium cross section is found to be $\ds σ= (3.1 \pm 0.2) {\rm mb}$. It yields $η/s = 0.17 \pm 0.02$ for the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density in QGP phase. The last result is in a good agreement with the estimates obtained by calculations within the viscous hydrodynamics.

Hexagonal flow v_6 as a superposition of elliptic v_2 and triangular v_3 flows

Partial contributions of elliptic v_2 and triangular v_3 flows to the hexagonal v_6 flow are studied within the HYDJET++ model for Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt{s}=2.76 TeV. Scaling of the ratio v_6^{1/6}{Psi_2} / v_2^{1/2}{Psi_2} in the elliptic flow plane, Psi_2, is predicted in the range 1 < p_T < 4 GeV/c for semicentral and semiperipheral collisions. Jets increase this ratio by about 10% and also cause its rise at p_T > 3.5 GeV/c. The part of v_6 coming from v_2 is instantly increasing as the reaction becomes more peripheral, whereas the contribution of v_3 to v_6 drops. This behavior explains the experimentally observed increase of correlations between second and sixth harmonics and decrease of correlations between third and sixth harmonics with rising impact parameter $b$. Our study favors the idea that basic features of the hexagonal flow can be understood in terms of the interplay of elliptic and triangular flows.

Higher harmonics of azimuthal anisotropy in relativistic heavy ion collisions in HYDJET++ model

The LHC data on azimuthal anisotropy harmonics from PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted in the framework of the HYDJET++ model. The cross-talk of elliptic $v_2$ and triangular $v_3$ flow in the model generates both even and odd harmonics of higher order. Comparison with the experimental data shows that this mechanism is able to reproduce the $p_{\rm T}$ and centrality dependencies of quadrangular flow $v_4$, and also the basic trends for pentagonal $v_5$ and hexagonal $v_6$ flows.

Study of $ππ$ correlations at LHC and RHIC energies in $pp$ collisions within the quark-gluon string model

The Quark Gluon String Model (QGSM) reproduces well the global characteristics of the $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC, e.g., the pseudorapidity and transverse momenta distributions at different centralities. The main goal of this work is to employ the Monte Carlo QGSM for description of femtoscopic characteristics in $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC. The study is concentrated on the low multiplicity and multiplicity averaged events, where no collective effects are expected. The different procedures for fitting the one-dimensional correlation functions of pions are studied and compared with the space-time distributions extracted directly from the model. Particularly, it is shown that the double Gaussian fit reveals the contributions coming separately from resonances and from directly produced particles. The comparison of model results with the experimental data favors decrease of particle formation time with rising collision energy.

Modeling the jet quenching, thermal resonance production and hydrodynamical flow in relativistic heavy ion collisions

The event topology in relativistic heavy ion collisions is determined by various multi-particle production mechanisms. The simultaneous model treatment of different collective nuclear effects at high energies (such as a hard multi-parton fragmentation in hot QCD-matter, thermal resonance production, hydrodynamical flows, etc.) is actual but rather complicated task. We discuss the simulation of the above effects by means of Monte-Carlo model HYDJET++.

HYDJET++ simulations and reconstruction of the anisotropic flow in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC

The azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles in heavy ion collisions is an important probe of quark-gluon plasma evolution at early stages. In the present paper the elliptic flow pattern in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt{s}=5.5 TeV is analyzed for different hadron species in the frameworks of HYDJET++ Monte-Carlo model. The influence of resonance decays on particle flow is investigated. The different methods of elliptic flow reconstruction are compared under LHC conditions.

Equilibrium and non-equilibrium effects in relativistic heavy ion collisions

The hypothesis of local equilibrium (LE) in relativistic heavy ion collisions at energies from AGS to RHIC is checked in the microscopic transport model. We find that kinetic, thermal, and chemical equilibration of the expanding hadronic matter is nearly reached in central collisions at AGS energy for $t \geq 10$ fm/$c$ in a central cell. At these times the equation of state may be approximated by a simple dependence $P \cong (0.12-0.15) ε$. Increasing deviations of the yields and the energy spectra of hadrons from statistical model values are observed for increasing bombarding energies. The origin of these deviations is traced to the irreversible multiparticle decays of strings and many-body $(N \geq 3)$ decays of resonances. The violations of LE indicate that the matter in the cell reaches a steady state instead of idealized equilibrium. The entropy density in the cell is only about 6% smaller than that of the equilibrium state.

Global observables and secondary interactions in central Au+Au reactions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ AGeV

The Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (UrQMD) is used to study global observables in central reactions of Au+Au at $\sqrt{s}=200$ AGeV (RHIC). Strong stopping governed by massive particle production is predicted if secondary interactions are taken into account. The underlying string dynamics and the early hadronic decoupling implies only small transverse expansion rates. However, rescattering with mesons is found to act as a source of pressure leading to additional flow of baryons and kaons, while cooling down pions.

Local Thermal and Chemical Equilibration and the Equation of State in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Thermodynamical variables and their time evolution are studied for central relativistic heavy ion collisions from 10.7 to 160 AGeV in the microscopic Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (UrQMD). The UrQMD model exhibits drastic deviations from equilibrium during the early high density phase of the collision. Local thermal and chemical equilibration of the hadronic matter seems to be established only at later stages of the quasi- isentropic expansion in the central reaction cell with volume 125 fm$^{3}$. distributions at all collision energies for $t\geq 10 fm/c$ with a unique Baryon energy spectra in this cell are approximately reproduced by Boltzmann rapidly dropping temperature. At these times the equation of state has a simple form: $P \cong (0.12-0.15) ε$. At 160 AGeV the strong deviation from chemical equilibrium is found for mesons, especially for pions, even at the late stage of the reaction. The final enhancement of pions is supported by experimental data.

Supercooling of rapidly expanding quark-gluon plasma

We reexamine the scenario of homogeneous nucleation of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. A generalization of the standard nucleation theory to rapidly expanding system is proposed. The nucleation rate is derived via the new scaling parameter $λ_Z$. It is shown that the size distribution of hadronic clusters plays an important role in the dynamics of the phase transition. The longitudinally expanding system is supercooled to about 3-6%, then it is reheated, and the hadronization is completed within 6-10 fm/c, i.e. 5-10 times faster than it was estimated earlier, in a strongly nonequilibrium way.
