Constraints on shear stress tensor in viscous relativistic hydrodynamics

We extend our hybrid model HydHSD by taking into account shear viscosity within the Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics. The influence of different forms of $π^{μν}$ constraints on observables is analyzed. We show that the form of the corresponding condition plays an important role for the sensitivity of viscous hydrodynamics to the ratio of shear viscosity to the entropy density, $η/s$. It is shown that the constraint used in the vHLLE model, results in most sensitivity of rapidity distributions and transverse momentum spectra to a change of the $η/s$ ratio; however, their applicability for large values of $η/s$ is doubtful. On the contrary, the strict constraints from \cite{MNR2010} are very strong but most established. We also found that $η/s$ as a function of the collision energy probably has an extremum at $E_{\rm lab}=10.7$ AGeV. However, we obtain that any considered condition does not allow to reproduce simultaneously pion and proton experimental data within our model.

Condensate of excitations in moving superfluids

A possibility of the condensation of excitations with a non-zero momentum in rectilinearly moving and rotating superfluid bosonic and fermionic (with Cooper pairing) media is considered in terms of a phenomenological order-parameter functional at zero and non-zero temperature. The results might be applicable to the description of bosonic systems like superfluid $^4$He, ultracold atomic Bose gases, charged pion and kaon condensates in rotating neutron stars, and various superconducting fermionic systems with pairing, like proton and color-superconducting components in compact stars, metallic superconductors, and neutral fermionic systems with pairing, like the neutron component in compact stars and ultracold atomic Fermi gases. Order parameters of the "mother" condensate in the superfluid and the new condensate of excitations, corresponding energy gains, critical temperatures and critical velocities are found.

Relativistic Mean-Field Models with Scaled Hadron Masses and Couplings: Hyperons and Maximum Neutron Star Mass

An equation of state of cold nuclear matter with an arbitrary isotopic composition is studied within a relativistic mean-field approach with hadron masses and coupling constants depending self-consistently on the scalar mean-field. All hadron masses decrease universally with the scalar field growth, whereas meson-nucleon coupling constants can vary differently. More specifically we focus on two modifications of the KVOR model studied previously. One extension of the model (KVORcut) demonstrates that the equation of state stiffens if the increase of the scalar-field magnitude with the density is bounded from above at some value for baryon densities above the saturation nuclear density. This can be realized if the nucleon vector-meson coupling constant changes rapidly as a function of the scalar field slightly above the desired value. The other version of the model (MKVOR) utilizes a smaller value of the nucleon effective mass at the nuclear saturation density and a saturation of the scalar field in the isospin asymmetric matter induced by a strong variation of the nucleon isovector-meson coupling constant as function of the scalar field. A possibility of hyperonization of the matter in neutron star interiors is incorporated. Our equations of state fulfill majority of known empirical constraints including the pressure-density constraint from heavy-ion collisions, direct Urca constraint, gravitational-baryon mass constraint for the pulsar J0737-3039B, and the constraint on the maximum mass of the neutron stars.

Scalar quanta in Fermi liquids: zero sounds, instabilities, Bose condensation, and a metastable state in dilute nuclear matter

Spectrum of bosonic scalar-mode excitations in a normal Fermi liquid with a local scalar interaction is investigated for various values and momentum dependence of the scalar Landau parameter $f_0$ in the particle-hole channel. For $f_0 >0$ the conditions are found when the phase velocity on the spectrum of the zero sound acquires a minimum at a non-zero momentum. For $-1<f_0 <0$ there are only damped excitations, and for $f_0<-1$ the spectrum becomes unstable against a growth of scalar-mode excitations. An effective Lagrangian for the scalar excitation modes is derived after performing a bosonization procedure. We demonstrate that the instability may be tamed by the formation of a static Bose condensate of the scalar modes. The condensation may occur in a homogeneous or inhomogeneous state relying on the momentum dependence of the scalar Landau parameter. We show that in the isospin-symmetric nuclear matter there may appear a metastable state at a subsaturation nuclear density owing to the condensate. Then we consider a possibility of the condensation of the zero-sound-like excitations in a state with a non-zero momentum in Fermi liquids moving with overcritical velocities, provided an appropriate momentum dependence of the Landau parameter $f_0 (k)>0$. We also argue that in peripheral heavy-ion collisions the Pomeranchuk instability may occur already for $f_0 >-1$.

Complete Strangeness Measurements in Heavy-Ion Collisions

We discuss strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions within and around the energy range of the planned NICA facility. We describe the minimal statistical model, in which the total strangeness yield is fixed by the observed or calculated $K^+$ multiplicity. We show how the exact strangeness conservation can be taken into account on the event-by-event basis in such a model. We argue that from strange particle yields one can reveal information about the collision dynamics and about possible modifications of particle properties in medium. This can be best achieved if the complete strangeness measurement is performed, i.e. kaons, anti-kaons, hyperons and multistrange hyperons are registered in the same experimental setup. In particular the production of hadrons containing two and more strange quarks, like $Ξ$ and $Ω$ baryons could be of interest.

Hyperon puzzle and the RMF model with scaled hadron masses and coupling constants

The equation of state of cold baryonic matter is studied within a relativistic mean-field model with hadron masses and coupling constants depending on a scalar field. We demonstrate that if the effective nucleon mass stops to decrease with a density increase at densities $n>n_*>n_0$, where $n_0$ is the nuclear saturation density, the equation of state stiffens for these densities and the limiting neutron star mass increases. The stabilization of the nucleon mass can be realised if in the equation of motion for the scalar mean-field there appear a term sharply varying in a narrow vicinity of the field value corresponding to the density $n_*$. We show several possible realizations of this mechanism getting sufficiently stiff equations of state. The appearance of hyperons in dense neutron star interiors is accounted for. The obtained equations of state remain sufficiently stiff if the reduction of the $ϕ$ meson mass is incorporated. Thereby, the hyperon puzzle can be resolved.

Making a soft relativistic mean-field equation of state stiffer at high density

We study relativistic mean-field (RMF) models including nucleons interacting with scalar, vector and iso-vector mean fields and self- and cross- mean-field interaction terms. Usually, in such a models the magnitude of the scalar field increases monotonically with the nucleon density, and the nucleon effective mass decreases. We demonstrate that the latter quantity stops to decrease and the equation of state stiffens, provided the mean-field self-interaction potential rises sharply in a narrow vicinity of the values of mean fields corresponding to nucleon densities $n> n_{*}>n_0$, where $n_0$ is the nuclear saturation density. As the result the limiting neutron star mass increases. This procedure offers a simple way to stiffen the equation of state at densities above $n_{*}$ without altering it at densities $n\le n_{0}$. The developed scheme allows an application to neutron stars of the RMF models, which are well fitted to finite nuclei but do not fulfill the experimental constraint on the limiting neutron star mass. The exemplary application of the method to the well-known FSUGold model allows us to increase the limiting neutron star mass from $1.72~M_\odot$ to $M \geq 2.01~M_\odot$.

The results might be applicable to the superfluid $^4$He, ultracold atomic Bose gases, various superconducting and neutral systems with pairing, like ultracold atomic Fermi gases and the neutron component in compact stars. Solution of the Hyperon Puzzle within a Relativistic Mean-Field Model

The equation of state of cold baryonic matter is studied within a relativistic mean-field model with hadron masses and coupling constants depending on the scalar field. All hadron masses undergo a universal scaling, whereas the coupling constants are scaled differently. The appearance of hyperons in dense neutron star interiors is accounted for, however the equation of state remains sufficiently stiff if a reduction of the $ϕ$ meson mass is included. Our equation of state matches well the constraints known from analyses of the astrophysical data and the particle production in heavy-ion collisions.

Spectral representation for u- and t-channel exchange processes in a partial-wave decomposition

We study the analytic structure of partial-wave amplitudes derived from u- and t-channel exchange processes. The latter plays a crucial role in dispersion-theory approaches to coupled-channel systems that model final state interactions in QCD. A general spectral representation is established that is valid in the presence of anomalous thresholds, decaying particles or overlapping left-hand and right-hand cut structures as it occurs frequently in hadron physics. The results are exemplified at hand of ten specific processes.

Viscosity of neutron star matter and $r$-modes in rotating pulsars

We study viscosity of the neutron star matter and $r$-mode instability in rotating neutron stars. Contributions to the shear and bulk viscosities from various processes are calculated with account of in-medium modifications of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. A softening of the pion mode and a possibility of the pion condensation are included. The nucleon pairing is incorporated. In the shear viscosity we include the lepton contribution calculated with account of the Landau damping in the photon exchange, the nucleon contribution described by the medium-modified one pion exchange, and other terms, such as the novel phonon contribution in the 1S$_0$ superfluid neutron phase, and the neutrino term in the neutrino opacity region. The nucleon shear viscosity depends on the density rather moderately and proves to be much less than the lepton term. Among the terms contributing to the bulk viscosity, the term from the medium modified Urca reactions possesses strongest density dependence because of the pion softening. Contributions to the bulk viscosity arising from other reactions induced by charged weak currents are included. The radiative bulk viscosity induced by charged and neutral weak currents in the region of the neutrino transparency of the star is also calculated with account for in-medium effects. The computed frequency boundary of the $r$-mode stability for the stars with the mass $\ge 1.8 M_{\odot}$ proves to be above the frequencies of all rotating young pulsars. To explain the stability of rapid rotation of old pulsars in X-ray binaries we propose a novel efficient mechanism associated with appearance of condensates of low-lying modes of bosonic excitations with finite momentum and/or with an enhancement of the inhomogeneous pion/kaon condensates in some parts of the star, if the angular velocity exceeds a critical value.

Mechanism of r-mode stability in young rapidly rotating pulsars

We demonstrate that stability of r-modes in young rapidly rotating pulsars might be explained if one takes into account strong medium modifications of the nucleon-nucleon interaction because of the softening of pionic degrees of freedom in dense nucleon matter. Presence of the efficient direct Urca processes is not required. Within our model the most rapidly rotating observed young pulsar PSR J0537-6910 should have the mass $\geq 1.8M_{\odot}$.

Time delays and advances in classical and quantum systems

The paper reviews positive and negative time delays in various processes of classical and quantum physics. In the beginning, we demonstrate how a time-shifted response of a system to an external perturbation appears in classical mechanics and classical electrodynamics. Then we quantify durations of various quantum mechanical processes. The duration of the quantum tunneling is studied. An interpretation of the Hartman paradox is suggested. Time delays and advances appearing in the three-dimensional scattering problem on a central potential are considered. Then we discuss delays and advances appearing in quantum field theory and after that we focus on the issue of time delays and advancements in quantum kinetics. We discuss problems of the application of generalized kinetic equations in simulations of the system relaxation towards equilibrium and analyze the kinetic entropy flow. Possible measurements of time delays and advancements in experiments similar to the recent OPERA neutrino experiment are also discussed.

Strangeness Balance in HADES Experiments and the Xi- Enhancement

HADES data on a strangeness production in Ar+KCl collisions at 1.76A GeV are analyzed within a minimal statistical model. The total negative strangeness content is fixed by the observed K^+ multiplicities on event-by-event basis. Particles with negative strangeness are assumed to remain in chemical equilibrium with themselves and in thermal equilibrium with the environment until a common freeze-out. Exact strangeness conservation in each collision event is explicitly preserved. This implies that Xi baryons can be released only in events where two or more kaons are produced. An increase of the fireball volume due to application of a centrality trigger in HADES experiments is taken into account. We find that experimental ratios of K-/K+, Lambda/K+ and Sigma/K+ can be satisfactorily described provided in-medium potentials are taken into account. However, the calculated Xi-/Lambda/K+ ratio proves to be significantly smaller compared to the measured value (8 times lower than the experimental median value and 3 times lower than the lower error bar). Various scenarios to explain observed Xi enhancement are discussed. Arguments are given in favor of the Xi production in direct reactions. The rates of the possible production processes are estimated and compared.

Spin excitonic and diffusive modes in superfluid Fermi liquids

A role of a particle-particle p-wave spin interaction in Fermi liquids with s-wave pairing is studied. Depending on the sign of the interaction there arises either the new exciton collective mode below the pair-breaking threshold or the diffusive excitation mode above the threshold. The Landau parameters which control the interaction strength are evaluated for various systems: the dilute fermion gases, degenerate electron liquid, metals, atomic nuclei and neutron matter. The interaction removes also the square-root singularity in the phase space of pair breaking processes. It is shown how these effects influence the neutrino emissivity in the neutron Cooper-pair recombinations in neutron stars.

Neutral weak currents in nucleon superfluid Fermi liquids: Larkin-Migdal and Leggett approaches

Neutrino emission in processes of breaking and formation of nucleon Cooper pairs is calculated in the framework of the Larkin-Migdal and the Leggett approaches to the description of superfluid Fermi liquids at finite temperatures. We explain peculiarities of both approaches and explicitly demonstrate that they lead to the same expression for the emissivity in pair breaking and formation processes.

Superfluid nucleon matter in and out of equilibrium and weak interactions

The Larkin-Migdal approach to a cold superfluid Fermi liquid is generalized for a non-equilibrium system. The Schwinger-Keldysh diagram technique is applied. The developed formalism is applicable to the pairing in the states with arbitrary angular momenta. We consider the white body radiation problem by calculating probabilities of different direct reactions from a piece of a fermion superfluid. The closed diagram technique is formulated in terms of the full Green's functions for systems with the pairing correlation. The cutting rules are used to classify the diagrams representing one-nucleon, two-nucleon, etc. processes in the matter. The important role of multi-piece diagrams for the vector-current conservation is demonstrated. In the case of equilibrated systems, dealing with dressed Green's functions, we demonstrate correspondence between calculations in the Schwinger-Kadanoff-Baym-Keldysh formalism and the ordinary Matsubara technique. As an example we consider neutrino radiation from the neutron pair breaking and formation processes in case of a singlet pairing. Necessary correlation effects are included. The in-medium renormalization of normal and anomalous vertices is performed.

Baryon resonances from chiral coupled-channel dynamics

We discuss the formation of s- and d-wave baryon resonances as predicted by the chiral SU(3) symmetry of QCD. Based on the leading order term of the chiral Lagrangian a rich spectrum of molecules is generated, owing to final-state interactions. The spectrum of s- and d-wave baryon states with zero and non-zero charm is remarkably consistent with the empirical pattern. In particular, the recently announced Sigma_c(2800) of the BELLE collaboration is reproduced with realistic mass and width parameters. Similarly, the d-wave states Lambda_c(2625) and Xi_c(2815) are explained naturally to be chiral excitations of J^P=3/2^+ states. In the open-charm sector exotic multiplet structures are predicted. These findings support a radical conjecture: meson and baryon resonances that do not belong to the large-N_c ground state of QCD should be viewed as hadronic molecular states

Chiral symmetry, strangeness and resonances

We review the important role played by the chiral SU(3) symmetry in predicting the properties of antikaons and hyperon resonances in cold nuclear matter. Objects of crucial importance are the meson-baryon scattering amplitudes obtained within the chiral coupled-channel effective field theory. The formation of baryon resonances as implied by chiral coupled-channel dynamics is discussed. Results for antikaon and hyperon-resonance spectral functions are presented for isospin symmetric and asymmetric matter.

Quark-mass dependence of baryon resonances

We study the quark-mass dependence of J^P = \frac12^- s-wave and J^P = \frac32^- d-wave baryon resonances. Parameter-free results are obtained in terms of the leading order chiral Lagrangian. In the 'heavy' SU(3) limit with m_π=m_K \simeq 500 MeV the s-wave resonances turn into bound states forming two octets plus a singlet representations of the SU(3) group. Similarly the d-wave resonances turn into bound states forming an octet and a decuplet in this limit. A contrasted result is obtained in the 'light' SU(3) limit with m_π=m_K \simeq 140 MeV for which no resonances exist.

Charmed meson resonances from chiral coupled-channel dynamics

Charmed meson resonances with quantum numbers J^P=0^+ and J^P=1^+ are generated in terms of chiral coupled-channel dynamics. At leading order in the chiral expansion a parameter-free prediction is obtained for the scattering of Goldstone bosons off charmed pseudo-scalar and vector mesons. The recently announced narrow open charm states observed by the BABAR and CLEO collaborations are reproduced. We suggest the existence of states that form an anti-triplet and a sextet representation of the SU(3) group. In particular, so far unobserved narrow isospin-singlet states with negative strangeness are predicted.

On charm baryon resonances and chiral symmetry

We study heavy-light baryon resonances with quantum numbers J^P=1/2^- in terms of the non-linear chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. Within the chi-BS(3) approach a parameter-free leading order prediction is obtained for the scattering of Goldstone bosons off heavy-light baryon resonances with J^P=1/2^+. The three states Lambda_{c1}(2593), Lambda_{c0}(2880) and Xi_{c1}(2790) discovered by the CLEO collaboration are recovered. We suggest the existence of resonance states that form an anti-quindecimplet, two sextet and two anti-triplet representations of the SU(3) group. In particular, narrow states with anomalous isospin (I) and strangeness (S) quantum numbers (I,S)=(1/2,+1) are anticipated.

preprint2003arXiv

On meson resonances and chiral symmetry

We study meson resonances with quantum numbers J^P=1^+ in terms of the chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. At leading order a parameter-free prediction is obtained for the scattering of Goldstone bosons off vector mesons with J^P=1^- once we insist on approximate crossing symmetry of the unitarized scattering amplitude. A resonance spectrum arises that is remarkably close to the empirical pattern. In particular, we find that the strangeness-zero resonances h_1(1380), f_(1285) and b_1(1235) are formed due to strong K \bar K_μand \bar K K_μchannels. This leads to large coupling constants of those resonances to the latter states.

Covariant meson-baryon scattering with chiral and large N_c constraints

We give a review of recent progress on the application of the relativistic chiral SU(3) Lagrangian to meson-baryon scattering. It is shown that a combined chiral and 1/N_c expansion of the Bethe-Salpeter interaction kernel leads to a good description of the kaon-nucleon, antikaon-nucleon and pion-nucleon scattering data typically up to laboratory momenta of p_lab about 500 MeV. We solve the covariant coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equation with the interaction kernel truncated to chiral order Q^3 where we include only those terms which are leading in the large N_c limit of QCD.

Relativistic chiral SU(3) symmetry, large N_c sum rules and meson-baryon scattering

The relativistic chiral SU(3) Lagrangian is used to describe kaon-nucleon scattering imposing constraints from the pion-nucleon sector and the axial-vector coupling constants of the baryon octet states. We solve the covariant coupled-channel Bethe-Salpeter equation with the interaction kernel truncated at chiral order Q^3 where we include only those terms which are leading in the large N_c limit of QCD. The baryon decuplet states are an important explicit ingredient in our scheme, because together with the baryon octet states they form the large N_c baryon ground states of QCD. Part of our technical developments is a minimal chiral subtraction scheme within dimensional regularization, which leads to a manifest realization of the covariant chiral counting rules. All SU(3) symmetry-breaking effects are well controlled by the combined chiral and large N_c expansion, but still found to play a crucial role in understanding the empirical data. We achieve an excellent description of the data set typically up to laboratory momenta of p_lab about 500 MeV.

The $χ$-BS(3) approach

We present the results of the $χ$-BS(3) approach demonstrating that a combined chiral and 1/N_c expansion of the Bethe-Salpeter interaction kernel leads to a good description of the kaon-nucleon, antikaon-nucleon and pion-nucleon scattering data typically up to laboratory momenta of p_lab~500 MeV. We solve the covariant on-shell reduced coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equation with the interaction kernel truncated to chiral order Q^3 and to the leading order in the 1/N_c expansion
