A new approach to projectivity in the categories of complexes, II

It is now very known how the subprojectivity of modules provides a fruitful new unified framework of the classical projectivity and flatness. In this paper, we extend this fact to the category of complexes by generalizing and unifying several known classical results. We further provide various examples to illustrate the scopes and limits of the established results. This paper is a continuation of a recent work in which it was shown among other several things that the subprojectivity of complexes can be characterized in terms of morphisms in the homotopy category.

On 1-semiregular and 2-semiregular rings

In this paper, we are mainly interested in the two questions "which are the commutative rings on which every finitely presented modules is [Formula: see text]-periodic (respectively, [Formula: see text]-periodic)?". It is proved that these kinds of rings are particular cases of semiregular rings. So, we call them [Formula: see text]-semiregular and [Formula: see text]-semiregular rings, respectively. We establish characterizations of these rings in terms of various classical notions and we provide several examples of such rings.

Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules with respect to a special finitely presented module

Let R be a ring, X a class of R-modules and n>1 an integer. In this paper, via special finitely presented modules, we introduce the concepts of Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules. And aside, we obtain some equivalent properties of these modules on n-X-coherent rings. Then, we investigate the relations among Gorenstein n-X-injective, n-X-flat, injective and flat modules on X-FC-rings (i.e., self n-X-injective and n-X-coherent rings). Several known results are generalized to this new context

Subprojectivity in abelian categories

In the last few years, Lopez-Permouth and several collaborators have introduced a new approach in the study of the classical projectivity, injectivity and flatness of modules. This way, they introduced subprojectivity domains of modules as a tool to measure, somehow, the projectivity level of such a module (so not just to determine whether or not the module is projective). In this paper we develop a new treatment of the subprojectivity in any abelian category which shed more light on some of its various important aspects. Namely, in terms of subprojectivity, some classical results are unified and some classical rings are characterized. It is also shown that, in some categories, the subprojectivity measures notions other than the projectivity. Furthermore, this new approach allows, in addition to establishing nice generalizations of known results, to construct various new examples such as the subprojectivity domain of the class of Gorenstein projective objects, the class of semi-projective complexes and particular types of representations of a finite linear quiver. The paper ends with a study showing that the fact that a subprojectivity domain of a class coincides with its first right Ext-orthogonal class can be characterized in terms of the existence of preenvelopes and precovers.

f-Biderivations and Jordan biderivations of unital algebras with idempotents

The notion of f-derivations was introduced by Beidar and Fong to unify several kinds of linear maps including derivations, Lie derivations and Jordan derivations. In this paper we introduce the notion of f-biderivations as a natural "biderivation" counterpart of the notion of "f-derivations". We first show, under some conditions, that any f-derivation is a Jordan biderivation. Then, we turn to study f-biderivations of a unital algebra with an idempotent. Our second main result shows, under some conditions, that every Jordan biderivation can be written as a sum of a biderivation, an antibiderivation and an extremal biderivation. As a consequence we show that every Jordan biderivation on a triangular algebra is a biderivation.

On proper and exact relative homological dimensions

In Enochs' relative homological dimension theory occur the so called (co)resolvent and (co)proper dimensions which are defined using proper and coproper resolutions constructed by precovers and preenvelopes, respectively. Recently, some authors have been interested in relative homological dimensions defined by just exact sequences. In this paper, we contribute to the investigation of these relative homological dimensions. We first study the relation between these two kinds of relative homological dimensions and establish some "transfer results" under adjoint pairs. Then, relative global dimensions are studied which lead to nice characterizations of some properties of particular cases of self-orthogonal subcategories. At the end of the paper, relative derived functors are studied and generalizations of some known results of balance for relative homology are established.

The category of modules on an n-trivial extension: the basic properties

In this paper we investigate a categorical aspect of $n$-trivial extension of a ring by a family of modules. Namely, we introduce the right (resp., left) $n$-trivial extension of a category by a family of endofunctors. Among other results, projective, injective and flat objects of this category are characterized. We end the paper with two applications. We characterize when an $n$-trivial extension ring is $k$-perfect and we establish a result on the selfinjective dimension of an $n$-trivial extension ring.

On n-Trivial Extensions of Rings

The notion of trivial extension of a ring by a module has been extensively studied and used in ring theory as well as in various other areas of research like cohomology theory, representation theory, category theory and homological algebra. In this paper we extend this classical ring construction by associating a ring to a ring $R$ and a family $M=(M_i)_{i=1}^{n}$ of $n$ $R$-modules for a given integer $n\geq 1$. We call this new ring construction an $n$-trivial extension of $R$ by $M$. In particular, the classical trivial extension will be just the $1$-trivial extension. Thus we generalize several known results on the classical trivial extension to the setting of $n$-trivial extensions and we give some new ones. Various ring-theoretic constructions and properties of $n$-trivial extensions are studied and a detailed investigation of the graded aspect of $n$-trivial extensions is also given. We end the paper with an investigation of various divisibily properties of $n$-trivial extensions. In this context several open questions arise.

On S-coherence

Recentely, Anderson and Dumitrescu's $S$-finiteness has attracted the interest of several authors. In this paper, we introduce the notions of $S$-finitely presented modules and then of $S$-coherent rings which are $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings, respectively. Among other results, we give an $S$-version of the classical Chase's characterization of coherent rings. We end the paper with a brief discussion on other $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings. We prove that these last $S$-versions can be characterized in terms of localization.

n-X-Coherent Rings

This paper unifies several generalizations of coherent rings in one notion. Namely, we introduce $n$-$\mathscr{X}$-coherent rings, where $\mathscr{X}$ is a class of modules and $n$ is a positive integer, as those rings for which the subclass $\mathscr{X}_n$ of $n$-presented modules of $\mathscr{X}$ is not empty, and every module in $\mathscr{X}_n$ is $n+1$-presented. Then, for each particular class $\mathscr{X}$ of modules, we find correspondent relative coherent rings. Our main aim is to show that the well-known Chase's, Cheatham and Stone's, Enochs', and Stenstrom's characterizations of coherent rings hold true for any $n$-$\mathscr{X}$-coherent rings.
