Analysis, detection and control of secure and safe cyber-physical control systems in a unified framework

This paper deals with analysis, simultaneous detection of faults and attacks, fault-tolerant control and attack-resilient of cyber-physical control systems. In our recent work, it has been observed that an attack detector driven by an input residual signal is capable of reliably detecting attacks. In particular, observing system dynamics from the perspective of the system input-output signal space reveals that attacks and system uncertainties act on different system subspaces. These results motivate our exploration of secure and safe cyber-physical control systems in the unified framework of control and detection. The unified framework is proposed to handle control and detection issues uniformly and in subspaces of system input-output data. Its mathematical and control-theoretic basis is system coprime factorizations with Bezout identity at its core. We firstly explore those methods and schemes of the unified framework, which serve as the major control-theoretic tool in our work. It is followed by re-visiting and examining established attack detection and resilient control schemes. The major part of our work is the endeavours to develop a control-theoretic paradigm, in which analysis, simultaneous detection of faults and attacks, fault-tolerant and attack-resilient control of cyber-physical control systems are addressed in a unified manner.

Complementary Feature Enhanced Network with Vision Transformer for Image Dehazing

Conventional CNNs-based dehazing models suffer from two essential issues: the dehazing framework (limited in interpretability) and the convolution layers (content-independent and ineffective to learn long-range dependency information). In this paper, firstly, we propose a new complementary feature enhanced framework, in which the complementary features are learned by several complementary subtasks and then together serve to boost the performance of the primary task. One of the prominent advantages of the new framework is that the purposively chosen complementary tasks can focus on learning weakly dependent complementary features, avoiding repetitive and ineffective learning of the networks. We design a new dehazing network based on such a framework. Specifically, we select the intrinsic image decomposition as the complementary tasks, where the reflectance and shading prediction subtasks are used to extract the color-wise and texture-wise complementary features. To effectively aggregate these complementary features, we propose a complementary features selection module (CFSM) to select the more useful features for image dehazing. Furthermore, we introduce a new version of vision transformer block, named Hybrid Local-Global Vision Transformer (HyLoG-ViT), and incorporate it within our dehazing networks. The HyLoG-ViT block consists of the local and the global vision transformer paths used to capture local and global dependencies. As a result, the HyLoG-ViT introduces locality in the networks and captures the global and long-range dependencies. Extensive experiments on homogeneous, non-homogeneous, and nighttime dehazing tasks reveal that the proposed dehazing network can achieve comparable or even better performance than CNNs-based dehazing models.

Probing the Cosmological Principle with the CSST Photometric Survey

The cosmological principle states that our Universe is statistically homogeneous and isotropic at large scales. However, due to the relative motion of the Solar System, an additional kinematic dipole can be detected in the distribution of galaxies, which should be consistent with the dipole observed in the cosmic microwave background temperature. In this paper, we forecast the mock number count maps from the China Space Station Telescope photometric survey to reconstruct the kinematic dipole. Using the whole photometric mock data, we obtain a positive evidence for the dipole signal detection at 3 sigma confidence level, and the significance would be increased to 4 sigma when we only use the high-redshift samples with z = 1.8 to 4. This result can provide a good consistency check between the kinematic dipoles measured in the CMB and that from the large scale structure, which can help us to verify the basic cosmological principle.

The Outcome of the 2022 Landslide4Sense Competition: Advanced Landslide Detection from Multi-Source Satellite Imagery

The scientific outcomes of the 2022 Landslide4Sense (L4S) competition organized by the Institute of Advanced Research in Artificial Intelligence (IARAI) are presented here. The objective of the competition is to automatically detect landslides based on large-scale multiple sources of satellite imagery collected globally. The 2022 L4S aims to foster interdisciplinary research on recent developments in deep learning (DL) models for the semantic segmentation task using satellite imagery. In the past few years, DL-based models have achieved performance that meets expectations on image interpretation, due to the development of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The main objective of this article is to present the details and the best-performing algorithms featured in this competition. The winning solutions are elaborated with state-of-the-art models like the Swin Transformer, SegFormer, and U-Net. Advanced machine learning techniques and strategies such as hard example mining, self-training, and mix-up data augmentation are also considered. Moreover, we describe the L4S benchmark data set in order to facilitate further comparisons, and report the results of the accuracy assessment online. The data is accessible on \textit{Future Development Leaderboard} for future evaluation at \url{https://www.iarai.ac.at/landslide4sense/challenge/}, and researchers are invited to submit more prediction results, evaluate the accuracy of their methods, compare them with those of other users, and, ideally, improve the landslide detection results reported in this article.

Impacts of the simulated standard siren on estimating cosmological parameters

We propose a method based on the process of extracting gravitational wave (GW) parameters from GW signals to simulate the binary neutron-star (BNS) merging events. We simulate 1000 GW standard sirens based on the observation of the Einstein Telescope (ET). Almost all the simulated GW data are in the redshift range of $[0,3]$. The role of the GW standard siren in the inference of the cosmological parameters is investigated. We find that the GW data can help improve the accuracy of cosmological parameters. Moreover, the degeneracy of cosmological parameters is broken by the GW data. The GW standard siren is helpful for the constraint of the cosmological parameters.

Malliavin Matrix of Degenerate SDE and Gradient Estimate

In this paper, we prove that the inverse of Malliavin matrix is p integrable for a kind of degenerate stochastic differential equation under some conditions, which like to Hormander condition, but don't need all the coefficients of the SDE are smooth. Furthermore, we obtain a uniform estimation for Malliavin matrix, a gradient estimate, and prove that the semigroup generated by the SDE is strong Feller. Also some examples are given.

CosmoMC Installation and Running Guidelines

CosmoMC is a Fortran 95 Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo (MCMC) engine to explore the cosmological parameter space, plus a Python suite for plotting and presenting results (see http://cosmologist.info/cosmomc/). This document describes the installation of the CosmoMC on a Linux system (Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 64-bit version). It is written for those who want to use it in their scientific research but without much training on Linux and the program. Besides a step-by-step installation guide, we also give a brief introduction of how to run the program on both a desktop and a cluster. We share our way to generate the plots that are commonly used in the references of cosmology. For more information, one can refer to the CosmoCoffee forum (http://cosmocoffee.info/viewforum.php?f=11) or contact the authors of this document. Questions and comments would be much appreciated.

Frugal Online Incentive Mechanisms for Crowdsourcing Tasks Truthfully

Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) is a new paradigm which takes advantage of pervasive smartphones to efficiently collect data, enabling numerous novel applications. To achieve good service quality for a MCS application, incentive mechanisms are necessary to attract more user participation. Most of existing mechanisms apply only for the offline scenario where all users' information are known a priori. On the contrary, we focus on a more realistic scenario where users arrive one by one online in a random order. Based on the online auction model, we investigate the problem that users submit their private profiles to the crowdsourcer when they arrive, and the crowdsourcer aims at selecting a subset of users before a specified deadline for minimizing the total payment while a specific number of tasks can be completed. We design three online mechanisms, Homo-OMZ, Hetero-OMZ and Hetero-OMG, all of which can satisfy the computational efficiency, individual rationality, cost-truthfulness, and consumer sovereignty. The Homo-OMZ mechanism is applicable to the homogeneous user model and can satisfy the social efficiency but not constant frugality. The Hetero-OMZ and Hetero-OMG mechanisms are applicable to both the homogeneous and heterogeneous user models, and can satisfy the constant frugality. Besides, the Hetero-OMG mechanism can also satisfy the time-truthfulness. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate the performance and validate the theoretical properties of our online mechanisms.

Inflation in de Sitter spacetime and CMB large scales anomaly

The influence of cosmological constant type dark energy in the early universe is investigated. This is accommodated by a new dispersion relation in de Sitter spacetime. We perform a global fitting to explore the cosmological parameters space by using the CosmoMC package with the recently released Planck TT and WMAP Polarization datasets. Using the results from global fitting, we compute a new CMB temperature-temperature spectrum. The obtained TT spectrum has lower power compared with the one based on $Λ$CDM model at large scales.

OMG: How Much Should I Pay Bob in Truthful Online Mobile Crowdsourced Sensing?

Mobile crowdsourced sensing (MCS) is a new paradigm which takes advantage of the pervasive smartphones to efficiently collect data, enabling numerous novel applications. To achieve good service quality for a MCS application, incentive mechanisms are necessary to attract more user participation. Most of existing mechanisms apply only for the offline scenario where all users' information are known a priori. On the contrary, we focus on a more real scenario where users arrive one by one online in a random order. We model the problem as an online auction in which the users submit their private types to the crowdsourcer over time, and the crowdsourcer aims to select a subset of users before a specified deadline for maximizing the total value of the services provided by selected users under a budget constraint. We design two online mechanisms, OMZ and OMG, satisfying the computational efficiency, individual rationality, budget feasibility, truthfulness, consumer sovereignty and constant competitiveness under the zero arrival-departure interval case and a more general case, respectively. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate the performance and validate the theoretical properties of our online mechanisms.
