Convergence of weighted ergodic averages

Let $(X, \mathcal{A},μ)$ be a probability space and let $T$ be a contraction on $L^2(μ)$ . We provide suitable conditions over sequences $(w_k)$ , $(u_k)$ and $(A_k)$ in such a way that the weighted ergodic limit $\lim\limits_{N\rightarrow\infty}\frac{1}{A_N}\sum_{k=0}^{N-1} w_k T^{u_k}(f)=0$ $μ$ -a.e. for any function $f$ in $L^2(μ)$ . As a consequence of our main theorems, we also deal with the so-called one-sided weighted ergodic Hilbert transforms.

Products of random variables and the first digit phenomenon

We provide conditions on dependent and on non-stationary random variables $X_n$ ensuring that the mantissa of the sequence of products $\left(\prod_{1}^{n}X_k\right)$ is almost surely distributed following the Benford's law or converges in distribution to the Benford's law.

Some mathematical tools for the Lenski experiment

The Lenski experiment is a long term daily reproduction of Escherichia coli, that has evidenced phenotypic and genetic evolutions along the years. Some mathematical models, that could be usefull in understanding the results of that experiment, are reviewed here: stochastic and deterministic growth, mutation appearance and fixation, competition of species.

Random series of functions and applications

We study the continuity properties of trajectories for some random series of functions $\sum a\_kf(αX\_k(ω))$ where $a\_k$ is a complex sequence, $X\_k$ a sequence of real independent random variables, $f$ is a real valued function with period one and summable Fourier coefficients. We obtain almost sure continuity results for these periodic or almost periodic series for a large class of functions, where the "almost sure" does not depend on the function.
