Interior regularity results for fractional elliptic equations that degenerate with the gradient

In this paper we obtain interior regularity estimates for viscosity solutions of nonlocal Dirichlet problems that degenerate when the gradient of the solution vanishes. Interior Hölder estimates are obtained when the order of the fractional diffusion is less or equal than one, and Lipschitz estimates when it is bigger than one. In the latter case, the estimates are robust enough to conclude interior C1,αC^{1, α} regularity by an improvement of the flatness procedure, which is possible when the nonlocal term is close enough to a second-order diffusion.

Non-existence of dead cores in fully nonlinear elliptic models

We investigate non-existence of nonnegative dead-core solutions for the problem $$|Du|^γF(x, D^2u)+a(x)u^q = 0 \quad \mbox{in} \quad Ω, \quad u=0 \quad \mbox{ on } \quad \partialΩ.$$ Here Ω⊂RNΩ\subset \mathbb{R}^N is a bounded smooth domain, FF is a fully nonlinear elliptic operator, a:Ω→Ra: Ω\to \mathbb{R} is a sign-changing weight, γ≥0γ\geq 0, and 0<q<γ+10<q<γ+1. We show that this problem has no non-trivial dead core solutions if either qq is close enough to γ+1γ+1 or the negative part of aa is sufficiently small. In addition, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of a positive solution under these conditions on qq and aa. Our results extend previous ones established in the semilinear case, and are new even for the simple model ∣Du(x)∣γTr(A(x)D2u(x))+a(x)uq(x)=0|D u(x)|^γ \mathrm{Tr}(\mathrm{A}(x) D^2 u(x)) + a(x)u^{q}(x) = 0, where A∈C0(Ω;Sym(N))\mathrm{A} \in C^0(Ω;Sym(N)) is a uniformly elliptic and non-negative matrix.

Cavity problems in discontinuous media

We study cavitation type equations, div(aij(X)∇u)∼δ0(u)\text{div}(a_{ij}(X) \nabla u) \sim δ_0(u), for bounded, measurable elliptic media aij(X)a_{ij}(X). De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory assures that solutions are αα-Hölder continuous within its set of positivity, {u>0}\{u>0\}, for some exponent αα strictly less than one. Notwithstanding, the key, main result proven in this paper provides a sharp Lipschitz regularity estimate for such solutions along their free boundaries, ∂{u>0}\partial \{u>0 \}. Such a sharp estimate implies geometric-measure constrains for the free boundary. In particular, we show that the non-coincidence {u>0}\{u>0\} set has uniform positive density and that the free boundary has finite (n−ς)(n- ς)-Hausdorff measure, for a universal number 0<ς≤10< ς\le 1.
