Asymptotic symmetries and subleading soft graviton theorem in higher dimensions

We investigate the relation between the subleading soft graviton theorem and asymptotic symmetries in gravity in even dimensions $d=2+2m$ higher than four. After rewriting the subleading soft graviton theorem as a Ward identity, we argue that the charges of such identity generate Diff$(S^{2m})$. In order to show that, we propose suitable commutation relation among certain components of the metric fields. As a result, all Diff$(S^{2m})$ transformations are symmetries of gravitational scattering.

Proceedings of the Low-$x$ 2021 International Workshop

The purpose of the Low-$x$ Workshop series is to stimulate discussions between experimentalists and theorists in diffractive hadronic physics, QCD dynamics at low $x$, parton saturation, and exciting problems in QCD at HERA, Tevatron, LHC, RHIC, and the future EIC. The central topics of the workshop, summarized in the current Proceedings, were: Diffraction in ep and e-ion collisions (including EIC physics); Diffraction and photon-exchange in hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions; Spin Physics; Low-$x$ PDFs, forward physics, and hadronic final states. This Workshop has been the XXVIII edition in the series of the workshop.

Triple (and quadruple) soft-gluon radiation in QCD hard scattering

We consider the radiation of three soft gluons in a generic process for multiparton hard scattering in QCD. In the soft limit the corresponding scattering amplitude has a singular behaviour that is factorized and controlled by a colorful soft current. We compute the tree-level current for triple soft-gluon emission from both massless and massive hard partons. The three-gluon current is expressed in terms of maximally non-abelian irreducible correlations. We compute the soft behaviour of squared amplitudes and the colour correlations produced by the squared current. The radiation of one and two soft gluons leads to colour dipole correlations. Triple soft-gluon radiation produces in addition colour quadrupole correlations between the hard partons. We examine the soft and collinear singularities of the squared current in various energy ordered and angular ordered regions. We discuss some features of soft radiation to all-loop orders for processes with two and three hard partons. Considering triple soft-gluon radiation from three hard partons, colour quadrupole interactions break the Casimir scaling symmetry between quarks and gluons. We also present some results on the radiation of four soft gluons from two hard partons, and we discuss the colour monster contribution and its relation with the violation (and generalization) of Casimir scaling. We also compute the first correction of $(1/N_c^2)$ to the eikonal formula for multiple soft-gluon radiation with strong energy ordering from two hard gluons.

Emerging Hawking-like Radiation from Gravitational Bremsstrahlung Beyond the Planck Scale

We argue that, as a consequence of the graviton's spin-2, its bremsstrahlung in trans-planckian-energy ($E\gg M_P$) gravitational scattering at small deflection angle can be nicely expressed in terms of helicity-transformation phases and their transfer within the scattering process. The resulting spectrum exhibits deeply sub-planckian characteristic energies of order $M_P^2/E \ll M_P$ (reminiscent of Hawking radiation), a suppressed fragmentation region, and a reduced rapidity plateau, in broad agreement with recent classical estimates.

The NLO jet vertex in the small-cone approximation for kt and cone algorithms

We determine the jet vertex for Mueller-Navelet jets and forward jets in the small-cone approximation for two particular choices of jet algoritms: the kt algorithm and the cone algorithm. These choices are motivated by the extensive use of such algorithms in the phenomenology of jets. The differences with the original calculations of the small-cone jet vertex by Ivanov and Papa, which is found to be equivalent to a formerly algorithm proposed by Furman, are shown at both analytic and numerical level, and turn out to be sizeable. A detailed numerical study of the error introduced by the small-cone approximation is also presented, for various observables of phenomenological interest. For values of the jet "radius" R=0.5, the use of the small-cone approximation amounts to an error of about 5% at the level of cross section, while it reduces to less than 2% for ratios of distributions such as those involved in the measure of the azimuthal decorrelation of dijets.

Unified limiting form of graviton radiation at extreme energies

We derive the limiting form of graviton radiation in gravitational scattering at transplanckian energies ($E\gg M_P$) and small deflection angles. We show that --- owing to the graviton's spin 2 --- such limiting form unifies the soft- and Regge- regimes of emission, by covering a broad angular range, from forward fragmentation to deeply central region. The single-exchange emission amplitudes have a nice expression in terms of the transformation phases of helicity amplitudes under rotations. As a result, the multiple-exchange emission amplitudes can be resummed via an impact parameter $b$-space factorization theorem that takes into account all coherence effects. We then see the emergence of an energy spectrum of the emitted radiation which, being tuned on $\hbar/R \sim M_P^2/E \ll M_P$, is reminiscent of Hawking's radiation. Such a spectrum is much softer than the one naïvely expected for increasing input energies and neatly solves a potential energy crisis. Furthermore, by including rescattering corrections in the (quantum) factorization formula, we are able to recover the classical limit and to find the corresponding quantum corrections. Perspectives for the extrapolation of such limiting radiation towards the classical collapse regime (where $b$ is of the order of the gravitational radius $R$) are also discussed.

Rescattering corrections and self-consistent metric in Planckian scattering

Starting from the ACV approach to transplanckian scattering, we present a development of the reduced-action model in which the (improved) eikonal representation is able to describe particles' motion at large scattering angle and, furthermore, UV-safe (regular) rescattering solutions are found and incorporated in the metric. The resulting particles' shock-waves undergo calculable trajectory shifts and time delays during the scattering process --- which turns out to be consistently described by both action and metric, up to relative order $R^2/b^2$ in the gravitational radius over impact parameter expansion. Some suggestions about the role and the (re)scattering properties of irregular solutions --- not fully investigated here --- are also presented.

The gluon splitting function at moderately small x

It is widely believed that at small x, the BFKL resummed gluon splitting function should grow as a power of 1/x. But in several recent calculations it has been found to decrease for moderately small-x before eventually rising. We show that this `dip' structure is a rigorous feature of the P_gg splitting function for sufficiently small alpha_s, the minimum occurring formally at ln 1/x of order 1/sqrt(alpha_s). We calculate the properties of the dip, including corrections of relative order sqrt(alpha_s), and discuss how this expansion in powers of sqrt(alpha_s), which is poorly convergent, can be qualitatively matched to the fully resummed result of a recent calculation, for realistic values of alpha_s. Finally, we note that the dip position, as a function of alpha_s, provides a lower bound in x below which the NNLO fixed-order expansion of the splitting function breaksdown and the resummation of small-x terms is mandatory.
