Inflation and DM phenomenology in a scotogenic model extended with a real singlet scalar

We study an extension of the scotogenic model with a real singlet scalar. It gives an origin of the mass of right-handed neutrinos and plays a role of inflaton through a non-minimal coupling with Ricci scalar. While an inert doublet scalar is an indispensable ingredient for neutrino mass generation in the model, it is also a promising dark matter (DM) candidate. Introduction of the singlet scalar could affect its nature of DM if mass of the singlet scalar is in a resonance region. We focus our study on such a case where inflaton mass is expected to be in a TeV range and reheating temperature is less than $10^9$ GeV. Thus the model requires low scale leptogenesis. After examining several effects brought about by the singlet scalar for the DM sector, we discuss DM phenomenology such as high energy neutrinos and monochromatic gammas caused by its annihilation.

Inflation due to a non-minimal coupling of singlet scalars in the radiative seesaw model

The radiative neutrino mass model with inert doublet dark matter is a promising model for the present experimental issues which cannot be explained within the standard model. We study an extension of this model focusing on cosmological features brought about from the scalar sector. Inflation due to singlet scalars with hierarchical non-minimal couplings with the Ricci scalar may give a favorable solution for both neutrino masses and baryon number asymmetry in the Universe.

Leptogenesis in a neutrino mass model coupled with inflaton

We propose a scenario for the generation of baryon number asymmetry based on the inflaton decay in a radiative neutrino mass model extended with singlet scalars. In this scenario, lepton number asymmetry is produced through the decay of non-thermal right-handed neutrinos caused from the inflaton decay. Since the amount of non-thermal right-handed neutrinos could be much larger than the thermal ones, the scenario could work without any resonance effect for rather low reheating temperature. Sufficient baryon number asymmetry can be generated for much lighter right-handed neutrinos compared with the Davidson-Ibarra bound.

Radiative neutrino mass model with degenerate right-handed neutrinos

The radiative neutrino mass model can relate neutrino masses and dark matter at a TeV scale. If we apply this model to thermal leptogenesis, we need to consider resonant leptogenesis at that scale. It requires both finely degenerate masses for the right-handed neutrinos and a tiny neutrino Yukawa coupling. We propose an extension of the model with a U(1) gauge symmetry, in which these conditions are shown to be simultaneously realized through a TeV scale symmetry breaking. Moreover, this extension can bring about a small quartic scalar coupling between the Higgs doublet scalar and an inert doublet scalar which characterizes the radiative neutrino mass generation. It also is the origin of the $Z_2$ symmetry which guarantees the stability of dark matter. Several assumptions which are independently supposed in the original model are closely connected through this extension.

Constrained inflaton due to a complex scalar

We reexamine inflation due to a constrained inflaton in the model of a complex scalar. Inflaton evolves along a spiral-like valley of special scalar potential in the scalar field space just like single field inflation. Sub-Planckian inflaton can induce sufficient $e$-foldings because of a long slow-roll path. In a special limit, the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio has equivalent expressions to the inflation with monomial potential $φ^n$. The favorable values for them could be obtained by varying parameters in the potential. This model could be embedded in a certain radiative neutrino mass model.

Inflation in a modified radiative seesaw model

The existence of the inflationary era in the early Universe seems to be strongly supported by recent CMB observations. However, only a few realistic inflation scenarios which have close relation to particle physics seem to have been known unfortunately. The radiative neutrino mass model with inert doublet dark matter is a promising model for the present experimental issues which cannot be explained within the standard model. In order to make the model include inflation, we extend it by a complex scalar field with a specific potential. This scalar could be closely related to the neutrino mass generation at a TeV scale as well as inflation. We show that the inflation favored by the CMB observations could be realized even if inflaton takes sub-Planck values during inflation.

Lepton number asymmetry via inflaton decay in a modified radiative seesaw model

We propose a non-thermal scenario for the generation of baryon number asymmetry in a radiative neutrino mass model which is modified to realize inflation at the early Universe. In this scenario, inflaton plays a crucial role in both generation of neutrino masses and lepton number asymmetry. Lepton number asymmetry is firstly generated in the dark matter sector through direct decay of inflaton. It is transferred to the lepton sector via the dark matter annihilation and then converted to the baryon number asymmetry due to the sphaleron interaction. All of the neutrino masses, the baryon number asymmetry and the dark matter are intimately connected to each other through the inflaton.

Leptogenesis and dark matter detection in a TeV scale neutrino mass model with inverted mass hierarchy

Realization of the inverted hierarchy is studied in the radiative neutrino mass model with an additional doublet, in which neutrino masses and dark matter could be induced from a common particle. We show that the sufficient baryon number asymmetry is generated through resonant leptogenesis even for the case with rather mild degeneracy among TeV scale right-handed neutrinos. We also discuss the relation between this neutrino mass generation mechanism and low energy experiments for the DM direct search, the neutrinoless double $β$ decay and so on.

Baryon number asymmetry and dark matter in the neutrino mass model with an inert doublet

The radiative neutrino mass model with an inert doublet scalar has been considered as a promising candidate which can explain neutrino masses, dark matter abundance and baryon number asymmetry if dark matter is identified with the lightest neutral component of the inert doublet. We reexamine these properties by imposing all the data of the neutrino oscillation, which are recently suggested by the reactor experiments. We find that the sufficient baryon number asymmetry seems not to be easily generated in a consistent way with all the data of the neutrino masses and mixing as long as the right-handed neutrinos are kept in TeV regions. Two possible modifications of the model are examined.

preprint2012arXiv

Extension of a radiative neutrino mass model based on a cosmological view point

We consider an extension of the radiative neutrino mass model at TeV regions so as to give the origin for inflation of the universe. This extension also gives a consistent explanation for both the origin of baryon number asymmetry and dark matter. A small scalar coupling which plays a crucial role in the neutrino mass generation in the original model may be related to parameters which are control inflation.

preprint2012arXiv

Thermal leptogenesis in a TeV scale model for neutrino masses

It is known that the radiative neutrino mass model proposed by Ma could be a consistent framework for dark matter, leptogenesis and suppressed lepton flavor violation if a neutral component of the inert doublet is identified as dark matter and the right-handed neutrinos are of O(10^7) GeV or more. In the same model we explore another scenario such that right-handed neutrinos are in TeV regions and their lightest one is dark matter. It is shown that this scenario requires fine mass degeneracy to generate the appropriate baryon number asymmetry as in the case of resonant leptogenesis. As long as we impose the model to induce the baryon number asymmetry on the basis of thermal leptogenesis, we find that dark matter abundance can not be explained. If this scenario is adopted, the model has to be extended to include some new mechanism to explain it.

Dark matter in the supersymmetric radiative seesaw model with an anomalous U(1) symmetry

The existence of an anomalous U(1) symmetry is shown to play a crucial role in the supersymmetric radiative seesaw model for neutrino masses. It explains the smallness of some couplings related to neutrino mass generation in a favorable way in addition to cause the hierarchical structure of Yukawa couplings of quarks and leptons. If it is spontaneously broken to a $Z_2$ subgroup, this $Z_2$ symmetry can make a lifetime of the lightest field with its odd parity extremely long. Thus, the model has an additional dark matter candidate other than the lightest neutralino, which appears in the $R$-parity conserved MSSM. We discuss the nature of dark matter by taking account of its relation to the neutrino mass generation and the lepton flavor violation.

Signals of dark matter in a supersymmetric two dark matter model

Supersymmetric radiative neutrino mass models have often two dark matter candidates. One is the usual lightest neutralino with odd R parity and the other is a new neutral particle whose stability is guaranteed by a discrete symmetry that forbids tree-level neutrino Yukawa couplings. If their relic abundance is comparable, dark matter phenomenology can be largely different from the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We study this in a supersymmetric radiative neutrino mass model with the conserved R parity and a $Z_2$ symmetry weakly broken by the anomaly effect. The second dark matter with odd parity of this new $Z_2$ is metastable and decays to the neutralino dark matter. Charged particles and photons associated to this decay can cause the deviation from the expected background of the cosmic rays. Direct search of the neutralino dark matter is also expected to show different features from the MSSM since the relic abundance is not composed of the neutralino dark matter only. We discuss the nature of dark matter in this model by analyzing these signals quantitatively.

Enhancement of the annihilation of dark matter in a radiative seesaw model

The radiative seesaw model with an inert doublet has been shown to be attractive from a viewpoint of both neutrino masses and cold dark matter. However, if we apply this model to the explanation of the positron excess in the cosmic ray observed by PAMELA, a huge boost factor is required although it can be automatically explained that no anti-proton excess has been observed there. We consider an extension of the model to enhance the thermally averaged annihilation cross section without changing the features of the model favored by both the neutrino oscillation and the relic abundance of dark matter. It is shown that the data of PAMELA and Fermi-LAT can be well explained in this extended model. Constraints from gamma ray observations are also discussed.

Neutrino masses and $μ$ terms in a supersymmetric extra U(1) model

We propose a supersymmetric extra U(1) model, which can generate small neutrino masses and necessary $μ$ terms, simultaneously. Fields including quarks and leptons are embedded in three ${\bf 27}$s of $E_6$ in a different way among generations. The model has an extra U(1) gauge symmetry at TeV regions, which has discriminating features from other models studied previously. Since a neutrino mass matrix induced in the model has a constrained texture with limited parameters, it can give a prediction. If we impose neutrino oscillation data to fix those parameters, a value of $\sinθ_{13}$ can be determined. We also discuss several phenomenological features which are discriminated from the ones of the MSSM.

Singlino dominated LSP as CDM candidate in supersymmetric models with an extra U(1)

We consider a singlino dominated neutralino in supersymmetric models with an extra U(1). In case both the $μ$ term and also the $Z^\prime$ mass are generated by the vacuum expectation value of the scalar component of the same singlet chiral superfield, generically the lightest neutralino is not expected to be dominated by the singlino. However, if the gaugino corresponding to the extra U(1) is sufficiently heavy, the lightest neutralino can be dominated by the singlino and still satisfy the constraints resulting from the $Z^\prime$ phenomenology. We assume a supersymmetry breaking scenario in which the extra U(1) gaugino can be much heavier than other gauginos. In that framework we show that the singlino dominated lightest neutralino may be a good candidate for dark matter in a parameter space where various phenomenological constraints are satisfied.

preprint2005arXiv

Nonthermal production of baryon and dark matter

We study nonthermal production of baryon and dark matter. If we extend the MSSM by introducing some singlet chiral superfields so as to enlarge the conserved global symmetry, the abundance of the baryon and the dark matter in the universe may be explained as the charge asymmetry of that symmetry. In such a case, the baryon energy density and the dark matter energy density in the present universe can be correlated each other and take the similar order values naturally.

D-term inflation and neutrino mass

We study a $D$-term inflation scenario in a model extended from the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) by two additional abelian factor groups focussing on its particle physics aspects. Condensates of the fields related to the inflation can naturally give a possible solution to both the $μ$-problem in the MSSM and the neutrino mass through their nonrenormalizable couplings to the MSSM fields. Mixings between neutrinos and neutralinos are also induced by some of these condensates. Small neutrino masses are generated by a weak scale seesaw mechanism as a result of these mixings. Moreover, the decay of the condensates may be able to cause the leptogenesis. Usually known discrepancy between both values of a Fayet-Iliopoulos $D$-term which are predicted by the COBE normalization and also by an anomalous U(1) in the weakly-coupled superstring might be reconciled.

$μ$-term due to the non-universal supersymmetry breaking and the Higgs mass

We propose a solution to the $μ$-problem due to the non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking in a class of supersymmetric extensions of the SM with an extra U(1) and the NMSSM. Our scenario resembles an earlier one which has been proposed as a solution to the $μ$-problem in the framework of similar models but it has rather different features from that. Theoretically crucial points in the present scenario are the realization of the required non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking parameters and the concern to avoid the vacuum instability due to tadpoles. We discuss them in some detail. In particular, on the non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking we discuss the superstring and the field theory with reduction of couplings possibilities. We also study the weak scale radiative symmetry breaking in the considered models and estimate the upper mass bound of the lightest neutral Higgs scalar. The latter tends to be smaller in the present scenario as compared to the previous one.

Neutrino mass due to the mixing among neutrinos and gauginos

We consider the explanation of both data of the atmospheric neutrino and the solar neutrino by the neutrino mass matrix derived from the mixing of neutrinos and gauginos in the extended MSSM with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry. This scenario directly relates the neutrino mass to supersymmetry. The structure of the mass hierarchy and the mixing is determined only by the extra U(1)-charge of neutrinos. Although the model is rather simple, it may be able to realize both the small and large mixing angle solutions for the solar neutrino problem. In particular, the large mixing angle MSW solution for the solar neutrino problem can be easily realized. We discuss the relation between the extra U(1)-charge and four solutions for the solar neutrino problem.

preprint2001arXiv

The origin of quark and lepton mixings

We propose a model for the mass matrices of quarks and leptons based on two Abelian flavor symmetries. One is assumed to be broken at a high energy region near the Planck scale. It is used for the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism in both quark and charged lepton sectors. Another one remains unbroken to a multi-TeV region. The mixings among neutrinos and gauginos including the one of the new Abelian symmetry generate non-zero masses and mixings among neutrinos. A bi-maximal scheme for the neutrino oscillation can be realized together with suitable masses and CKM-mixings in the quark sector. FCNC constraints on this flavor dependent Abelian symmetry seems to be evaded.

Neutrino oscillations in a $3ν_L+3ν_R$ framework with five light neutrinos

We propose a neutrino mass matrix model in which five neutrino species remain light through the seesaw mechanism within a supersymmetric $3ν_L+3ν_R$ framework. We construct such a model based on the nonrenormalizable terms in the superpotential constrained by the discrete symmetry which may be expected in the models at the high energy scale such as superstring. We study the possible oscillation phenomena by fixing mass parameters so as to explain the solar and atmospheric neutrino deficits and also include a candidate of the suitable dark matter. We also discuss the charged lepton mass matrix based on this neutrino model. LSND results may be consistently explained within this model.

Radiative Symmetry Breaking in a Supersymmetric Model with an Extra $U(1)$

Radiative symmetry breaking is studied in a superstring-inspired supersymmetric model which is extended with a low energy extra $U(1)$ symmetry. In this model the $μ$-problem is radiatively solved in an automatic way. The right-handed neutrino can be heavy and the seesaw mechanism will produce the small neutrino mass which makes the MSW solution applicable to the solar neutrino problem. We search a parameter region which has the favorable feature for the radiative symmetry breaking at the weak scale. Rather wide parameter region is found to be allowed. The upper bound of the extra $Z$ boson mass is estimated as $M_{Z_2} \le 2000$~GeV for a top mass range $ 150~{\rm GeV} \le m_t \le 190~{\rm GeV}$. Some phenomenological features of the extra $Z$ boson are also presented.
