Connection between proton decay suppression and seesaw mechanism in supersymmetric SO(10) models

We propose a mechanism to suppress proton decay induced by dimension-5 operators in a supersymmetric SO(10) model. Proton lifetime is directly connected with the intermediate vacuum expectation value which is responsible for the seesaw mechanism. The model shows many consistencies with the present theoretical results such as the components of the two Higgs doublets in the minimal supersymmetric standard model.

Proton decay suppression in a supersymmetric SO(10) model

We propose a mechanism for sufficient suppression of dimension-5 operators for proton decay in a supersymmetric SO(10) model. This mechanism is analogue to the double seesaw mechanism in studying neutrino masses. Only an intermediate VEV instead of an intermediate scale is required so that gauge coupling unification is maintained. The VEV is generated by introducing an anomalous U(1) symmetry whose breaking is at higher scale. The proton decay amplitudes are suppressed by this VEV over the GUT scale. We use $\textbf{45+54}$ in breaking GUT symmetry. $\textbf{120}$ is included so that fermion sector is fully realistic. Assuming a minimal fine-tuning in the Higgs doublet sector, $\textrm{tan}β$ of order one is predicted.

B_c meson rare decays in the light-cone quark model

We investigate the rare decays $B_c \rightarrow D_s(1968) \ell \bar{\ell}$ and $B_c\rightarrow D_s^*(2317) \ell \bar{\ell}$ in the framework of the light-cone quark model (LCQM). The transition form factors are calculated in the space-like region and then analytically continued to the time-like region via exponential parametrization. The branching ratios and longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetries (LPAs) for the two decays are given and compared with each other. The results are helpful to investigating the structure of $B_c$ meson and to testing the unitarity of CKM quark mixing matrix. All these results can be tested in the future experiments at the LHC.

Study of non-minimal SUSY SU(5) model with realistic fermion sectors

We study a supersymmetric SU(5) model with the extra Higgs multiplets of 45+\bar 45. The unification of the gauge couplings, the fermion masses and the proton lifetime are discussed in details. The dimension-five operators mediated by different colored Higgs sector can be destructive with each other. This effect serves a way of solving the longevity of proton. We analytically analyze this destructive effect in a special limit where the mixing between the 5- and 45-plets is small. Although the theory does not hold in this special limit, it is a revelatory starting point. We can relax this limit and retain the destructive effect. In a generalized parameter space, this model is in accord with experimental results.

An Illustrative Example of How Quark-Hadron Duality Might Work

We discuss the issue of the local quark-hadron duality at high energies in two- and four-dimensional QCD. A mechanism of the dynamical realization of the quark-hadron duality in two- dimensional QCD in the limit of large number of colors, N_c -> \infty, (the 't Hooft model) is considered. A similar mechanism of dynamical smearing may be relevant in four-dimensional QCD. Although particular details of our results are model-dependent, the general features of the duality implementation conjectured previously get further support.

W-exchange and W-annihilation processes of B mesons

Using the PQCD method we calculate the W-exchange and the W-annihilation processes of B mesons, which in general involve a charm quark or anti-quark in the final state. The nonvanishing amplitudes of these processes are found to be suppressed by a factor of $m_c/m_b$ compared to the tree or the time-like penguin processes, but some of them are within the reach of observation at the future B-factories, and $\bar B_d^0 \to D^+_s K^-$ whose branching ratio is found to be $6.6 \times 10^{-6}$ can be found even before the B-factory era. Comparisons with the results based on the BSW model are also given.
